FIRST RULE OF FIGHT CLUB? | apprentice challenge

He had invited apprentices alongside his own, mentors and warriors without apprentices themselves. To give or take of course from this lesson-challenge. Thistleback wanted to observe, blatantly curious and simply doing a duty as a warrior himself.

" I want an apprentice, to invent a battle move. The most creative move, gets the rest of the day off to be in camp " he challenges, " you will also be judged by how effective this move would be… and how fast, you can execute it…" words eloquent and decorated in his posh accent, he paces the edge of camp where he had gathered his little group.

" let’s see it then, who’s first " Thistleback’s shoulders roll as he plants himself near the base of a pine, tail whipping as he awaits his first attacker. Having previously promised that he would make no defensive counter-attacks, Thistleback would tolerate the light bruising if it meant these kids got some real experience.

" no claws- …unless you want me to use them back " he jokes with a smile, hoping to lighten the serious tone he had brought to the clearing.

A day off to laze in camp?! That sounded awesome, but the red tabby has her doubts that @TALLULAHWING would be too pleased with the idea... Her mentor didn't seem like the type to find it acceptable to give the tabby a whole entire day off. Despite being weary on buying the prize entirely... maybe she could get away with it. After all, Thistleback was a warrior, Tallulahwing's equal... maybe his word would be enough to score her that prize.

"Okay, but can we fight in the trees? I think I could pull off a pretty awesome move from the branches..." She suggests confidently with a toothy grin and a daring look.

Tallulahwing follows Thistleback with sharp interest, wondering what his purpose in this little excursion is -- and her eyes begin to glow as he explains what his intention is. She supposes after Centipedepaw, the Clan is in need of apprentices fully capable of defending themselves -- and more importantly, getting away. Surviving.

She can see Figpaw's hesitance, as though she thinks her mentor will not allow this "game." She nods her head at the orange tabby. "This may sound fun, but it's still trainin', Missy," she says, leveling Figpaw with her pale stare. "Do your best. Pull that creativity out. I wanna see what you've learned."

"NOBODY TEACHES YOU TO WALK WITH OPEN HANDS"
Bearpaw follows along after the rest, both interested in what Thistleback wants and also not wanting to get in trouble for not following. Listening quietly, she suddenly feels very, very nervous. They had to make their own battle moves? She hardly even knows the ones they teach in Skyclan! Battle training has...not been particularly fruitful so far, and honestly she'd been lucky that she hadn't gotten into any genuinely dangerous situations while living on her own. Most of the time, standing up tall and bluffing had been enough to scare off any other unhappy loners, and if nothing else running always seemed to work. Surely all the other apprentices here are much more skilled than Bearpaw is, since they've all been training longer than she has, and if she has to demonstrate some sort of attack she'll just make a fool of herself in front of everyone.

Is it too late to just sneak away? Probably, she decides, casting a quick glance at those already gathered and those still settling in. Well, maybe if everybody else went first they would all forget about her and she wouldn't have to show off her lack of training. Bearpaw sits near the back of the gathered apprentices, trying to look attentive and to pay attention to what everybody else is doing. Maybe this wouldn't all be bad - she might even learn something from watching her fellow apprentices, though somehow she doubts she'll actually be able to translate it properly in her training with her mentor. Oh, she can only hope she doesn't perform so poorly they decide to kick her out; Thistleback hadn't mentioned anything about those who did bad, only that the most creative cat would be rewarded.

Reactions: ThistleBack

A competition? Neat!

Bright eyes search for @churrodream's approval to join Thistleback's contest. The ginger tom already has so many ideas! And, well, if Figpaw's going to join in, he has to beat her! His excitement almost forgets about the prize in question. The rest of the day off? Oh, that would be nice too!

He scrunches his nose at his sibling's mention of battling in trees. It's a strength she has over him, climbing. His climbing skills were still a work in progress.

"We don't have to fight in the trees, right?" Greenpaw asks, despite knowing that it would be way cooler to come up with a battle move with the branches than on the ground. He'll have to try to get up there. Somehow.

Honestly, Churro has been kind of lacking on her battle training with Greenpaw- I mean, she roamed the streets back in Mexico, knew a little bit, but even that wasn't enough to have protected her. It had all come down to her own incompetance and she can only hope its not something she'd pass down. When Thistle calls out for a competition shes instinctively searching for her apprentice, a smile ghosting the corners of her lips.

She meets his eyes, gives him a vigorous nod. "Knock yourself out, hijo!" she chirps, coming over to swipe her tongue on his head. She leans down with a devious grin, right to his ear to whisper a secret. "If you beat them, we'll do what you want for the next couple sunrises." of course she'd do this anything, but whats a little friendly competition without the prospect of a bigger thing? She just hopes he doesn't ask to fight and train with that- she's still getting pointers in that, after all.
"speech"

" let’s go then tenderfoot, be careful though " he approves with a few long steps to base of the flaky bark of the pine, Talluhlahwing and Churrodream in the audience for their apprentices.

A fair question stems from the orange apprentice, who doesn’t look too confident in Figpaw’s decision, not for himself anyways. " No lad, in a normal battle- an attack from the tree would be a stealthy one-time move. While it’s the way of the Skyclanner- you’ll do well to create a move from the ground " he answers the kid thoroughly, turns his attention on Bearpaw briefly. " you’re after Figpaw " he doesn’t know that this is probably the last thing she wants to hear.

" Alright~ " he relaxes his stance as he waits for Figpaw’s aerial attack.
