fishing off the dock (riverclan patrol)

// @koipaw @salmonrun feel free to post before the RiverClanners!

It was a small patrol to be assigned, but Lightningstone wouldn’t question his deputy. Knowing her, she'd pluck the other warrior off this patrol, just for good measure. How mighty of a patrol would he and his apprentice be then? The sun continues to rise in the clear sky as the tom opts to start off in the highland territory. Up through the meadows they go, until they get to the gorge. Obviously, no cat can cross here, but he is nothing if not dutiful. He will mark every border. He's sure to keep Koipaw a good distance away from the edge and exchanges idle chitchat with Salmonrun before they finally approach the Falls, and below that, the river. This is where they may run into some of the hare-chasers. Climbing down the slope beside the misty waterfall, Lightningstone casts a glance back towards his apprentice before the group fully descends. They now pad alongside the bank, and the gray tom even lets his paws walk through the shallows. It's chilly, but he doesn't mind; it's a tiny show of advantage to the neighbors who oh-so loved their dry land.

The blue ticked tom was not fond of the scent of the river, nor did he much enjoy getting his paws wet at all. Water was for drinking, not wallowing in, and the other clan's penchant for acting less like cats and more like fish did not appeal to him at all. He had lived in the Marsh Colony well before the clans were established and had steered clear of the soft and loamy areas of the territory because the feeling of moisture squishing between his paws was abhorrent. Not that he was squeamish or anything, he was perfectly capable of getting dirty if it was a necessity but froclicking in the river or stomping in puddles was a frivolous waste of time and energy. This was Juniperfrost's last stop on this patrol, a quick check of the RiverClan border and letting @WINDPAW get a good look of the territory edging along theirs so he could learn the scent he might one day need to drive away.
"Good day." He calls out, voice rising only an octave higher to be heard but without any piercing cry or actual yelling to his tone; he was easily heard all the same, he did not care to explain many more pleasantries than that. This patrol seemed alarmingly small actually, he wondered if RiverClan was lacking in warriors to guard their borders or if this was some subtle insult that they considered WindClan not a threat.
"Windpaw, don't fall behind. We'll mark the border while we're out here." His tail raised and he gestured for the younger cat to keep pace as they moved to the edge of the winding stream, his gait unhurried and one eye continually glancing in idleness to the side in case the fish feeders made any sudden movements.

Shes quiet, she has been the whole walk, with dulled eyes as she trails behind her mentor. Part of her expects to find another Peachpaw in the shallows, drowned and face contorted- her eyelids flutter shut to squeeze out the memory, a heavy sigh leaving her nostrils as she reopens them to glance at Lightning and Salmon. Patrols were mind numbing, but not that she minded of course, anything to get away from her personal thoughts was welcome to her. Koi blinks as Lightning wallows off in to the shallows, a metaphorical brow quirking at his actions. The cold season was soon, the water would be freezing, and speaking of freezing shes sure that the water all around them would freeze.

Would this leave Riverclan bare and open for attacks?

She shakes her head, looks towards the gray Windclanner that called out pleasantries. She would not indulge him, only offers a flick of her ear in acknowledgement. She didn’t want to talk, it was pointless, she talked when she needed to and now was not one of those times. Her chin raises just a bit as she returns her gaze towards Lightning. Would he say something back? She hopes he does. It’d be quite the awkward silence, or perhaps Salmon would, either way she’d shuffle softly towards the lapping water and take a few quick laps.

In tow with her own apprentice and namesake, @SOOTPAW , the blue molly arrives at the scene a short while after Juniperfrost and her other child. She hopes the two are old enough to know bickering would be utmost inappropriate... especially at a time like this. She knows how siblings could be, in their youth just about anything could ignite a bickering between Pebblenose and Sootstar.

Juniperfrost says the greetings, Sootstar says nothing as she usually does with RiverClan. Now that she has ShadowClan she doesn't feel she needs to be on their good graces... so long as they were merely okay with each other that was okay with her. She does meet their gazes and considers that a big enough greeting to suffice. "Sootpaw, you know the drill." Or at least he should by now, she hopes she's taught him well enough to retain how to mark the borders.

Alas, a patrol comes into view. It looks to be the WindClan leader herself, a warrior, and two apprentices. Juniperfrost, he believes the other tom is called. He pauses, paws stinging from the cool water but he doesn't dare show it. He only fixes them with his usual bored look and offers a nod in response to the greeting, his tail-tip flicking back and forth thoughtfully. He isn't known to be a talkative tom. The warrior looks back towards his apprentice and grunts, "Let's get back to marking." Immediately, he moved to brush his face roughly against a stone to leave behind his scent, throwing a purposeful glance back towards the WindClanners.

Against the ashen pelts of those who had already encountered, Mallowlark's stark-white pelt stood out loudly, charcoal paws carrying a tilted form over. Body-balance uncorrupted but head tilted impossibly sideways, wide metallic eyes peered over the river at the unfamiliar faces. Surely he should recognise some of them from the gathering, but who was he kidding? It was not RiverClan he paid attention to under that moonlight. Oh, but today- it was sun, daylight's grin to match his own and no phantom to be found! He had time to say hello, and willpower too.

"Hell-oo!" Broken melody sang siren-screech over the river, loud enough to seize attention. Upon the bank his dusky paws rooted, argent eyes wide and brimming with all the fascination that would be there had he been looking at a circus attraction. Grin too-wide, head pulled too-sideways, he looked and looked. Eye-contact, the perfect first impression! "I'd ask you how the prey's running, but it doesn't exactly run for you guys- snnnnk- does it! Nyahahahahaha-!"

He'd heard laughing at your own jokes was considered uncouth, but what was he to do when they were so funny he could not help it! Fish with legs- oh, a sight that would be!

@spiritpaw

She wasn't apart of a border patrol today, but she was taking Spiritpaw on another tour of the territory to get her used to things. Being a good warrior meant having the territory memorized to the very stone on the grounds, and memory was usually build with repetition. Silvery ears flick at the sound of Mallowlark's signature hyena-like laugh, and if were anyone else she might have just continued on her way. But knowing Mallowlark, someone could have fell off the gorge and made him laugh so hysterically like that. An odd one, for sure.

"Come on, little ghost." Hyacinth meows softly, tail flicking as the femme makes her way over to join Sootstar and the others present. She makes it a point to keep her distance from the dust-colored molly out of respect for her space, but she certainly ached to have Soot's eyes on her once again; the thought quickly shoved down with logical reasoning. Mallowlark's posture and facial expression made Hyacinth shift uncomfortably, but she didn't remark on it. Who was she to judge? Mallowlark was.. slightly sane, and he hadn't left any unsavory gifts for her yet, so she was fine.

Violet-tinted eyes watched as the unfamiliar RiverClanners rub themselves against rocks, Hyacinth snorting softly in amusement. They looked like they had fleas and couldn't be rid of them.. "Tsk," Hyacinth chuckled softly under her breath, noticing Koipaw down below. The only one she could recongnize. She leans down to Spiritpaw's ear, whispering. "See that calico right down below? Her name's Koipaw. I'm unsure about the other ones. Do you want to ask their names?" She smiles down at the apprentice. Get to know your friends, sure. But she firmly believed that knowing your enemies was more important at times. With a glance back to Sootstar to make sure she didn't ruffle any feathers, Hyacinth seats herself down to wait.
