  • THEIR STORY: A litter born of infidelity. Despite the sins of their parents, they live innocently in the moorland, unaware of their deceased biological father and the nature of the romance that created them. They were WindClan's very first litter and the first cats to ever be named with the "-kit" suffix. They've been raised within WindClan under the fierce protection of their mother, Sootstar, and since she rules the hills she's not allowed harm to touch their fur.

    Now that she has a new litter with Weaselclaw, she notably spends less time with them and gives them less praise, but they are adults and less attention from your parents is to be expected. Right?

lithe in figure, sootstrike is a warrior clearly built for speed. his legs are long and packed with lean muscle, perfectly formed for racing across the moorland. he appears larger than he is thanks to his pelt of thick, silvery-blue fur, and the tufts of pristine white fur at the tips of his ears give him that tiniest bit of extra height. his pelt grows darker across his eyes, as well as at his tail and paws. his white spotting may as well be snow fallen from each icy word he speaks, a blaze down his face and muzzle leading into a white underside and a white tail tip. his eyes, permanently widened with intense focus, are a sort of olive green that reflects the grassland around him.

being a child of the clan’s leader would give any cat a superiority complex, and such logic rings especially true for sootstrike. he believes himself infallible, and does not offer respect to the other party in disagreements (the exception being his mother). he shows complete deference to sootstar, and begrudgingly respects weaselclaw but pointedly does not speak to him much. authority, especially his mother who has been blessed by the stars, means everything to him. he will defend sootstar to his dying breath, even if she seems to be pulling away from him recently. sootstrike is so dependent on his mother’s leadership, however, that he tends to run into trouble when it comes to making his own decisions and thinking for himself.

sootstrike is able to keep a clear head, even in the most stressful of situations. he is studiously calm in his day to day life, and does not speak often—he does not see the point in offering useless words. his voice is quiet but harsh, each word infused with a spark that threatens lightning. his interests lie mainly in battle, ever eager for a fight with any of the other clans; he has a silvered tongue, though, and finds himself able to talk his way out of even the most sticky situations. he has a strong sense of duty to his clan and would sacrifice himself for nearly any clanmate without question. he places little value in his own health and safety, so long as no one he cares about is hurt. he may be outwardly cold and harsh, but he truly does care about his clanmates.

sootstrike is observant, oftentimes overly so, and in the depths of his focus he tends to get stuck, caught up in issues that either no longer matter or no longer affect him. he has very little creativity, preferring not to stray far outside of what is expected of him. he sticks to the rules of the clan rigidly, unwilling to bend or break rules for any reason besides life or death.

in stark contrast to his aloof demeanor, he is a cuddler, and does not withhold physical affection for anyone. he tries not to cross boundaries for those who don’t enjoy touch, and will ask for physical contact when he needs to be comforted. he loathes showing his weaknesses to the world, but is beginning to understand how to ask for help when he needs it.

  • doesn’t have a huge problem with weaselclaw, but very obviously doesn’t treat him with the same respect that sootstar gets. makes a point not to talk to weaselclaw much because he views their relationship as awkward and strained (when in reality it might not be at all).
  • cares deeply for his family and would defend them at all costs. views his younger windclan half-siblings just as he does cloudedsky—they are siblings and no one can deny that.
  • has noticed soot paying less attention to him and cloudedsky now that the younger litter are getting older, but he won’t say anything about it. he can’t ask his mother directly about it, but she’s the only person who could give him an answer.

  • does not know of his other parent, and does not care to know. he respects his mother enough not to question her decisions, so if she hasn’t yet told him about his father, then he doesn’t want to know. if he were to find out that he had half-siblings in another clan, however, sootstrike would be devastated. being forced to admit that he has family in shadowclan, being forced to walk around each day with that knowledge, would destroy him for a while. he’s always thought of himself as a windclan pureblood, because if no one knows who his father is then no one can tell him that he’s not. having to confront the idea of being the child of some tom who also spawned two shadowclanners would crush him. depending on how he found out & how sootstar reacted, this could lead to a slight mistrust in her (why didn’t she tell him and cloudedsky?) or it could lead to a far more steadfast trust in his mother (she didn’t tell him because she knew it would hurt him, because she cares so deeply for him).

    A long furred blue chimera with green eyes. / reference
    Standing at a whopping 7inches tall, Sootmask weighs in at about 5lbs maybe and is rather slim fitt and average build. He has rounded shoulders, rounded paws and face tufts like his mother does, and white covers those tufts as well as on his chest and down his belly. Darker shades of blue coat his tail, all four paws and of course there is a disintictive mask upon his face as well in the darker shade. The rest of his body is covered in a lighter blue color and is long in appearance, often messy and unkept as he had better things to do than to clean himself. Sootmask has these rounded, striking green eyes that seem to stare through cats that at them and he had a fluffy tail he takes great pride in.

Sootmask is known for being a rather challenging figure, always striving for the best of the best and never settling for less than perfect. He is very orgainized in what he does for the clan and has a routine down pat that if disturbed can send him into a tizzy. Charimatic and intelligent, Sootmask is no idiot and no blind follower either as he can see both sides of the coin just fine but he is just more inclined to listen to his mother than anything else. Passionate, all he wants in life is to be a warrior. A good warrior at that, and takes pride in being just that- a loyal warrior.

    Sootmask has always had aggression issues since he was an apprentice. Always bursting out into fits of rage for one reason or another, but they never seemed to be anything of significance to anyone outside of Sootmasks' head. He is a very determined cat as he usually gets what he wants when he wants it, and can be very deceptive in getting what he wants. A lie is never short from his mouth and its hard to tell when he tells the truth sometimes. Sootmask is also intense, he feels everything intensely and is can cause a lot of problems for him.

    Blunt and cynical, Sootmask sees the world in a black and white picutre. One is either with Sootstar or against her, and he wasn't about to be there when all idiots fall to her claws. He will take any opportunity to be seen as better or stronger or anything that pushed him further along in life. The young warrior is known for his brutal words and even more brutal claws, but usually words where enough to deter someone from messing with him.

    Sootfur's pelt lacks warmth. The melding shades of blue and white are cool and crisp, at odds with the welcoming tones of WindClan's summer moors but at home among the cyclical decay heralded by late autumn. His is a palette belonging to overcast skies heavy with the omen of snow, and his physique is similarly better suited to the necessity of winter: no muscle is unused, no portion of fat excessive. There is a distinct lack of soft plumpness even during well-fed moons; he has shed chubby-cheeked childhood as a deer its antlers.

    Where his demeanor is concerned, he is not dissimilar to marble, though not in the sense of lacking expression— think instead of marble shaped by a master sculptor. The glint of his teeth when smiling is undeniably realistic, and yet there remains an undeniable rigidity when it's remembered that this is stone, not flesh. His forced expressions are easily mistaken for genuine at first glance, but are also easily unveiled. Physical deception does not appear to be a skill of his, but it has been practiced frequently enough (just without a natural talent for it). Of course, when alone with his family, it is a slightly different story given to truer sincerity.

    Lately, however, as Sootstar's time shifts to make greater room for her newest children at the expense of Sootfur, the marble has begun to make itself welcome even among bloodties.

  • Sootfur is a hypervigilant creature, and it is his sensitivity to appearances that feeds some of his behavior, such as "policing" his many siblings and avoiding vulnerability. His position could easily foster arrogance and a sense of self-importance— and it has, in a way. Rather than tossing his weight around, he is acutely aware of potential threats to the family's reputation, and his own by extension. He has authored an unspoken set of rules for himself to avoid weakening his mother's position. This involves a degree of haughtiness, of elevating himself above the ills of kittypets, loners, and those of blood untouched by the stars. In essence, a high pedestal equates to high expectations.

    Perhaps this stems partly from his struggles with charisma. When he was younger, he was slightly less fettered, but age has brought with it shackles. Reprimands, advice, and training come naturally to him, yet he is far from an avid conversationalist. His jokes are often in poor taste or painfully awkward, and he is not given to commenting on the weather or admiring the landscape in prose. If he were patient with his shortcomings, he might improve far more readily, but he often berates himself after discomfiting encounters.

    He is not especially gentle, and genuine praise is hard-won (if you are not his mother or Weaselclaw). He believes firmly that asserting WindClan's strength lies in separating the chaff from the wheat, a distinction made (in his mind) by physical prowess and deference to order. Sootfur sets aside any moral doubts to fixate firmly on structure. He highly values routine and a baseline of normalcy, and perceived disruptions (such as his own wrestling with a confusing sense of femininity) are met with frustration.

  • two-toned blue tom with white, green eyes / reference
    sootspot carries the typical windclan litheness: a short stature, a wiry frame, the majority of which remains concealed beneath a thick tricolour coat. soot's fur is a mixture of two different greys, primarily an ashen colour that is accentuated with darker spots the same colour as his mothers around his eyes, legs and tails. the underside of his body is painted white with a horselike star parting the mask-like bands of charcoal between his eyes. an assymetrical white spot is dotted just to the side of this star, a namesake for the little tom. he has round, yellow-green eyes that seem unusually alert and active even when his expression is more dignified and reformed. he has white tufts on the tip of his ears that often become stained with flecks of dirt after long tunneling excursions, much to sootspot's annoyance.

    he carries himself like he is taller than he actually is, his default expression that of a haughty smirk. only his family and close friends get to see the full extent of his emotions, the rest of his gestures and body language are muted by comparison.

    sootspot carries all the hallmarks of a gentry: he has a polite attentiveness to his expressions when addressing others and there is a reserved friendliness to him, yet he carries himself with an arrogance that suggests he knows his worth and doesn't worry about flaunting it passive-aggressively. feeling at ease navigating the complicated social circles of his home, sootspot does his best to come across as a reliable but distant tunneler who will not make friends but can be trusted to do anything or talk to anyone. it is not a sentiment that is entirely true. put together in most social situations, he is maladroit when in more intimate settings with others, finding it uncomfortable to share tongues with anyone outside of immediate family and finding that he has little identity outside of his position as sootstar's son. with the challenge of new offspring threatening to take that away from him, sootspot desires to push himself even harder to earn approval.

    ambitious to a fault in seeing himself success, sootspot struggles to build connections outside of his immediate family and believes that lowering his guard around so many animals, especially after previously loyal cats betrayed his home, is a weakness. it is this caution of others that furthers his coldness towards them: he knows he is loyal, he does not know if anyone else is loyal. not as physically intimidating as other members of windclan due to his short stature, sootspot finds his worth through his intelligence and memory and by manipulating situations to his or his clans benefit, the former of which he is very confident in. he will absolutely promote fighting dirty and other 'dishonourable' tactics in combat. he is not a coward in battle, he is a coward when facing accountability for any wrongdoings he may have inflicted on others.

    though fiercely dedicated to windclan, sootspot also has an agenda of his own. dissatisfied with starclan's lightning strike at the gathering, he seeks to understand his ancestors on a deeper level and prove to them that they were wrong for such a thing and potentially manipulated by the other clans. he believes it is windclan's mission to cleanse starclan from the corruptive influence of the other groups. how he intends to do that is anyone's guess. with his family's focus shifting away from him, it is an idealogy that he doesn't feel comfortable sharing - only time will tell if it becomes exaggerated or muted by the events of the future.

    trust does not come easy to sootspot. having seen how quickly others have turned on his mother, he is protective of himself and perceives relationships with others as a weakness. he is suspicious at all times of others only getting close to him due to his family name and will attempt to use positive interactions to his advantage and offer very little in return. he is not one to outwardly express loyalty, instead showing his loyalty to others through implicit actions and displays of kindness that help the other physically or socially - not so much emotionally.
