*:・゚ (^˵◕ω◕˵^) hunting has been particularly tricky for chicorypaw recently, it honestly feels like she's been working with two left feet with how often she blunders her catches leaving her empty-pawed and a sheepish expression. it certainly doesn't help that they're well into leaf-fall already and prey is beginning to thin out which means even less opprotunity to catch something that'll fill enough bellies, heck, it's already starting to show now! today will be different though, determination courses through her veins as she sets sights on catching something that she can proudly bring back go the kits, queens and elders!

the hunting patrol she and her mentor travel with had decided on a spot and begin to spread out along the riverbank and chicorypaw quickly settles on an area just beyond curtain of reeds. a quick breath is sucked into her lungs as she stares at the warping surface of the water like her life depended on it patience! gotta focus! the chant is repeated over and over again as the apprentice waits for the tell-tale sign of a fish coming into her sights. it takes a while and chicorypaw almost gives up but thankfully she doesn't because right infront of her is a shadow swimming against the currents. this is her chance! pupils would dilate as they track the motions of the prey, ears twitching more than usual before a cream and blue paw is lashing out into the water quickly scooping out a roach up onto the bank where it'd flail wildly. "I-I did it, I caught a good one!" she exclaims, proudly basking in her success unbeknownst to the figure sneaking up behind.

something or rather someone collides into the apprentice sending her tumbling into the river with a yelp and a splash and when she resurfaces, coughing and sputtering with claws trying to cling to the rivers edge, all she can see is a figure disappearing into the territory with her catch. "no! no, that's not fair! that was mine! come back here!" she yowls but it was futile, the rogue is long gone by now leaving an upset and sniveling chicorypaw trying to drag herself out the water.

her first good catch in a while only for it to be snatched right under her nose by a thief. bummer.

hunting has been scarce as the moons wane on a fortnight — he walks along with a slow, smooth pace, angles his limbs in ways that slip through the tall grass without rustling the leaves and alerting potential prey to their crouched location. he leads a hunting patrol today, and uncharacteristically, there is little. the rivers run with fish more often than not, yet they seemed to be avoiding their usual spots. the areas where sun beams unto the water and leads the minnow surface - ward, to be snatched when they bask in its warmth, were miraculously empty. with each passing hotspot, he would curse beneath his breath − a huff of a confused thing, irritable. he shakes his head like a scorned hound, flattens his ears and continues further along the riverbank. annoyance. it was leaffall, and while the waters were low, it had never quite gotten this bad before the frosts set in. he flicks his tail and inclines the apprentices at his heel follows suit. warriors spread around him, poppysong leading chicorypaw upstream and he watches from his periphriels for only a moment before his gaze returns to the waves.

he crouches, muscles winding to spring should any shadow flit beneath the gleaming waters. instead, it lasts only moments before a shriek, a splash. a frantic scream of frustration that could very well be pain and long limbs force him into motion, a leap forward — after the rogue or the apprentice, he does not know — but the stranger is gone before he can see where they’d run. his head whips back towards the water where chicorypaw drags herself to the surface, and his head lowers to inspect her for injury. he splashes into the water, drenches his lower limbs. blood does not spatter to her coat and it is a small blessing, but his brows draw tight, " are you hurt? did they hurt you? " he does not give time for an answer. his head whips up, towards warriors accumulating at his back.

what in starclans name were they standing around for? ” follow them — go! go! see where they went! “ he snarls, ripping an order from the black of his maw. he looms like a crane, shadowed and dark when he aims to scruff the girl with little hesitation — she is far too large for a lift, but he aims to help drag her to the surface where her claws scrabble for perch. water flattens his curls, but he does not feel the colder bite of leaf - fall through the burn of fury under his skin. they would find them. it was just a rogue, a non - clanner. starclanless. his claws extend, and he pretends it helps him shove the apprentice to the shore.

he / him. tall, elegantly curled smoke tortoiseshell chimera with intense salt blue eyes. his structure sings a feral sort of hymnal, presenting an almost dangerous sort of beauty veiling what monstrosities lie beneath the ivory of his skull. jutting jawline and a squared chin, sunken cheeks drawing a shadow beneath high, sharp cheekbones with tall, angular ears settling high atop the flatter slope of his cranium. he is beautiful ; lucifer in the eyes of an envious god. for all his looks, his expression is lax, void — corpse - eyed and hollow until spoken to, sparking the undead to life. he is tall, lean, cut - glass pretty ; he smiles with too - many teeth, blackened frostbite pulling back his maw to bear canines setn beneath curling whiskers, pantomime skeletal. a predatory gracefulness from the lines that press the image of exhaustion beneath ice water hues to the slow, sure gait in which he walks, nameless strength poorly concealed within the hard lines of his physique. descending from a heritage of overtyped oriental shorthairs, cicadastar stands unnaturally tall amongst his peers, always holding himself with a tragic sort of grace ; poised, prim, and uncannily aware of how he appears.

Despite not being the best at it, fishing so far was one of Ratpaw's favorite things to do. It meant she got to be in the water, got to practice her swimming and it made her feel like there was nothing wrong in the world. She was in the water, trying her best to paddle and keep her head above at the same time as catching fish when the cheer from Chicorypaw caused a smile to form on Ratpaw's face. If Chicory had caught a fish then that meant there were fish here, and maybe - just maybe - the younger apprentice would be able to catch one herself. The sound of a splash caused her to finally look and she watched in shock as an unknown cat sprinted off and the other apprentice swimming to the water's edge, calling out about the fish being hers.

As Rat swam to the bank she listened as Cicadastar ordered those that had been gathering around him to go chase after the cat, try to find where they went, and had it not been for the burning at the apprentices sides due to how quickly she had tried to get back to the shore she would have chased after them as well. Looking up towards Cicadastar for just a moment, Ratpaw's ears flicked back against her head as she went to try to help get Chicorypaw out of the water. When all was said and done, the young apprentice found herself looking down towards her paws for just a moment more before she looked over towards Cicadastar again. "Can they not catch their own food, in different territories?" She found herself asking. It wasn't aimed towards anyone despite her frustrated expression landing on her leader, but her tail lashed as Ratpaw caught her breath. Too many questions swirled in the girl's brain now though eyes landed on her fellow apprentice, the main thing at the front of her mind being that she hoped the other was okay.

A fierce camaraderie had formed between himself and Chicorypaw at the discovery in both their weakest skills. Althought his counterpart may be more forgiving with herself about what she lacked in hunting, far more patient with herself than himself, Otterpaw was the blaring polar opposite. Hunting frustrated him to no end and every failure only opened up the hole in his chest more and more. Bristling fur and bared fangs was a common form he took after a days worth of nothing to show for.

Otterpaw had been closer to Chicorypaw out of comfort for his own insecurity. At least if he looked bad, he wouldn't be the only one. He might not even be the worst and truly that mattered more than anything. The smallest, most likely the worlds tiniest, minnow was clutched beneath claws as though it would grow wings and fly away. His first, and only, catch since that morning and he would not let it go anywhere his eyes couldn't see.

His focus is shared with Chicorypaw, staring intensely at the shimmering presence of fish underneath the water. Otterpaw held his breath as she geared up for her strike, and the sweet sound of wriggling fins announced her success. The chimera shouted praise with her, only to be cut off by the strike of another cat. A cat that lacked any sort of Clan scent, that lacked any recognition as a RiverClan cat. He nearly didn't believe what he saw- a rogue so boldly stealing straight from the mouth of his Clanmate.

Cicadastar jumped to shout his commands but the apprentice did not even wait for that. His minnow long forgotten on the shore, his legs kicked off the pebbly ground to dart after the nameless cat. "Turn around and face us, coward! Dumb, stupid, idiot thief! I'll claw your pelt back by your eyes!" Gruesome threats made no promise, the rogue might've made the perfect WindClanner as it tore off, rapidly outrunning him.

₊· ͟͟͞͞➳˚ Beepaw had been focused on her own fishing and occasionally would glance over to Ratpaw if she was having better luck than her, the smoke furred molly carefully poised on the shore and had seen the shadow of a fish. Her snowy paw outstretched and her eyes growing bright at the promise of bringing something home but the shriek of Chicorypaw startled the fish away. Her large ears laying flat against her head in brief frustration until she heard the splash right afterwards and whipped her head around to see an nameless cat running away from the shore while Chicorypaw sputtered and splash in the river. Ratpaw already swimming over to where the group was gathered and Beepaw joined them with her gaze glaring after where the rogue had sped off to with Otterpaw running behind them, he wouldn't catch up to them.

"Cowards and foxhearts are what they are." The smoke apprentice says with a growl as her snout scrunches up with frustration, she wishes that she was fast enough to catch the lawless rogue but she knew that she wouldn't be able to. Her anger subsides as she focuses her attention to Chicorypaw and asks with a tilt of her head "Are you alright?" It didn't seem like she was hurt, she hoped not.
