The sun was just beginning to sink low toward the horizon when Crowflower finally arrived at the nursery. She was later than usual, but she brought treasures with her, as promised. When she was visiting her sister and the kits last evening, Stagkit had requested that Crowflower show everyone some treasures that she found while exploring Thunderclan's territory. Although the adventurous she-cat had plenty of interesting trinkets stashed by her nest in the warriors' den, she thought it would be fun to challenge herself to find some new ones. Hopefully the kits weren't waiting for too long. Crow had hurried back to camp as fast as she could once she noticed how late it was. She was still slightly out of breath when she arrived, several sprigs from a red bud tree sticking up at odd angles from her tangled black fur. She carried a small skull in her mouth, as well as a sycamore leaf wrapped delicately around something. Beads of drool begin to drip down the items; she would have to set them down soon before they were slobbered beyond recognition.

Taking a place at the front of the nursery den, Crowflower quickly set down her load and began arranging the items on the dirt floor. The skull was set directly in front of her. From the leaf, she unwrapped a medium-sized butterfly and a small red feather, which were arranged to either side of the skull. "Sorry for being late," she apologized, a sheepish smile on her lips. "Just pick whichever one you want to hear about first." Though she was addressing Stagkit, her mossy gaze flickered across all the gathered faces, searching for interest.

Sky-blue eyes had shot open a short while ago, awaking from a nap one of the queens had forced on him like torture, agony without equivalent for the energetic kit. It was punishment for some already-forgotten infraction that was probably deserved, but still, couldn’t he have been let off with a warning? Wasting precious hours with a nap just seemed wrong.

Any lingering bitterness was quickly pushed aside as Shinekit picked up on the chatter around him. There was excitement from the other kits, tales of trinkets and souvenirs from that alluring land outside camp that would soon be arriving in the nursery. It didn’t take long to get sucked into the anticipation, and soon the living shaft of sunlight was bouncing around on all paws waiting for something that was sure to brighten the day.

Flaming ears perked up, sensing movement outside the den. Shinekit didn’t know how long he’d been waiting, but it felt like forever (which, in his mind, was the length of every wait). Finally, though, it seemed the promised time had arrived. As Crowflower stepped forwards and set down her slightly slobbery haul, Shinekit was enthralled. He took one giant step forwards, prepared to take the lead and start the questions, when he paused. “I want to hear about the butterfly, but what if everyone else wants to hear about the skull?” The internal monologue rang like an alarm in his head, and the kit stepped back, shuffling slightly into the shadows, seemingly content to simply watch for once. I wouldn’t want to upset anyone…”
