She was outraged, to say the least. What could Howlingstar be thinking, allowing the former kittypets to be sent away like this, as if that were truly a solution? Without the full power of the clan protecting them, what was going to stop these murderers from finding them and striking again? This plan of theirs seemed weak at best, and she wasn’t at all comfortable leaving Ivorypaw’s safety in the paws of cats she barely knew. While she understood that it probably was Leafhusk’s intention to keep them all out of harm’s way, how was she actually going to accomplish that? There were too many of them to keep a constant eye out, and it made the young warrior nervous, to say the least.
She’d already been to see Howlingstar, having followed the leader back to her den immediately after the meeting came to a close. She’d demanded to know just how this was the right thing to do, and when their clanmates would be coming back. But she’d come away with less answers than she’d started with, and not feeling any better about the situation. Time was running out now, and Leafhusk would be leading the select few unsafe Thunderclanners away before long. It was time to say goodbye, as much as she was dreading this moment. She would be so angry with herself if she didn’t at least see her new apprentice off.
“Ivorypaw? I’d like to speak with you, come find me when you’re finished.” She’d poked her head into the nursery, whispering into the darkness where she knew the alabaster molly would likely be getting her things ready to leave. She backed away, settling herself in a secluded corner of the camp’s clearing to wait until the girl approached, sweeping a tail across the ground in front of her paws in a welcoming gesture. She leveled her with a soft smile, trying to keep the concern from her eyes as she gazed down at her. “How’re you doing? Today was a big day, and I know this is all… a bit of a shock.” For both of us. They would get to the other bits soon, but the finality of the situation was beginning to settle in, and she wanted to make sure Ivorypaw was okay. If it was difficult for Palefire, it had to be even more so for the young girl.
