hidden within the looming shadows in the corners of camp, goosepaw can be found crouched low in a hunter's position with ears angled forwards and tail lying impossibly still behind as to not disturb any sparse foilage that might give away their position to any unsuspecting passerbys. the blue tabby should be out training at this hour but honeyspot had told them they were feeling a little under the weather today and shooed them off with the task to find another warrior-apprentice pair to tag along with for the day but instead of doing it in a normal way they had decided to ambush the first cat who stumbles across him.

the sound of approaching pawsteps is causes goosepaw to begin tensing their muscles, pupils slowly beginning to grow larger until only a ring of blue could be seen as he waited for his prey to get a little bit closer. closer. NOW! with a quick wiggle of their body, goosepaw springs out from hiding with a yowl and immediately collides into none other than roosterstrut. "gotcha! and since i caught you, you gotta take me out training now!" they declare, unable to help the look of pride the colors his expression at his successful surprise 'attack'.

[ IT'S FUNNY HOW DUMB YOU ARE. ]

The thought of having an apprentice of her own excites Forestshade - the only problem is she’s very picky. And unlike most warriors, she is set on choosing her own apprentice. A kit that shows a promise in stealth and hunting, just like she did! Like Goosepaw, maybe; yeah, the next kit that comes around with perfect hunting crouches, she’ll be the first to snatch them up.

She hears the nearby collision of two bodies before they tumble to the ground, and it draws a snort of amusement from the blind torbie. She saunters closer with a humored sneer on her face, trilling, “If only that were a marsh rabbit instead of Roosterstrut. We’d all be eating good today!” Her thick pelt hides the bones that would be poking out, luckily hiding just how much the hunger was affecting her body. If she were still that selfish apprentice, she’d be fine. Maybe there’s even a small part of her that misses those days of sneaking her catches off to eat by herself, but she shakes the thought away. Forestshade is a warrior, and she must take care of her clan as they’ve taken care of her.

She had her own little apprentice now again, trusted by Pitchstar to teach and guard his little sister; an honor to some cats she was sure but a hindrance to her. She had no real fondness for the rosette leader, Lilacpaw seemed fine but being her mentor meant extra scrutiny to her teaching methods so she was already dreading taking her out as it were. Hopefully he minded his own business and trusted the process, her process. She liked to think she was a good teacher, patient but not overbearing and understanding without allowing them to develop a sense of laziness as a result. Halfshade did not expect immediate perfection, but she did expect slowly developing perfection. Hopefully the girl could keep up with her ambitions.
Padding forward to the scene alongside Forestshade, an amused smile played upon her maw as she watched Goosepaw make his boisterous demands and pounce about, still very kit-like in behavior but that never lasted too long from what she'd seen; let him enjoy it for now.
"What do you think, Lilacpaw? Want to tag along with them perhaps?" Her mismatched eyes lifted, caught Roosterstrut's handsome mug in her gaze, "If that's alright that is~"
Her tone made it clear she might just ignore a refusal and follow along anyways, she had previously considered staring with hunting work for her apprentice but why not dip their toes into a bit of combat or what have you-get Lilacpaw adjusted to the fact she may very well need to fight for her life one day. Especially given ShadowClan's penchant for not getting along well with others.

Nightwillow had not been closely watched, otherwise perhaps she would've been assigned another mentor far sooner, so it was not likely that Halfshade would be interfered with in her goals. Lilacpaw however, had yet to accept the change, she of course followed the warrior and her orders, but with so many things troubling her lately, she had still fumbled with any new progress.

She watches as Goosepaw stalks and then tackles Roosterstrut, Forestp-shade, Forestshade commending his 'catch'. Life was still going on despite the clan's struggles, the world was still turning. She couldn't stop time again, couldn't afford to rely on daydreams if she wanted to do something to help her family, no matter how much those bonds had crumbled and wavered. It was a weak conviction, staying around and trying for them, but it was more conviction than she had had when her mother was taken from them. It would do.

Once again wrapped up in her thoughts, she almost doesn't hear Halfshade suggest that the both of them tag along, the way she balks unhindered by her usual neutral mask. Lilacpaw had never once trained with other apprentices, Nightwillow's pride not allowing them to let others see her failure, but some part of her had craved such normalcy. "U-Um, sure! Yeah that sounds fine." While Halfshade talks to Roosterstrut, she turns to Goosepaw. "If you don't mind us coming along either?"

    Lilackit - LILACPAW
9 moons, closeted demigirl [currently uses she/her]
A willowy, longhaired chocolate marble tabby with a distinct ruffle of neck and chest fur that trails down her back and white markings, has pale/dull green eyes
Lilacpaw is currently a mirror to those around her, she should be considered a spineless, two-faced cat among her peers, and a rather useless cat to the clan by most adults. She tends to strive for positive attention from everyone, only to have it blow up in her face and spawn negative attention instead.
Has recently lost her mentor Nightwillow to starvation, is becoming increasingly unstable.

Roosterstrut was a strange tom to her. They had grown up together and she had, of course, known him her whole life but the red tabby she knew had been a coward, unreliable. Who he was shaping up to be, whether he knew it or not was the cat she had spent her life knowing. Still, she enjoyed the light teasings and the simple back-and-forth banter she was able to share with him. He was good company no matter if she still knew him or not. Time had drawn them apart, of course, as it does with many childhood friends. It would maybe be nice to get to know him again, get that piece of childhood back.

She lets out a loud barking laugh at Forestshade's joke "I call first dibs if we gotta eat him!" she says a bit too loudly. Either she doesn't notice or care though and plows on. "I'll come along too!" she casually invites herself, not bothering to ask if they minded or not. If they didn't that would be too bad because she was coming anyways.

Roosterstrut had admittedly been pretty distracted as of late, with most cats probably being able to guess why. The failed hunting patrols, including the one he led, and the tensions with ThunderClan and everything. What was going to come next? Whatever may befall the clan next, he would feel guilty that he had played a part in it all. ShadowClan is his home and he would never want anything bad to happen to it.

An unsuspecting victim indeed, Roosterstrut is literally yanked back into reality as he's tackled to the ground by an unknown assailant. Not expecting to be taken down in camp, his anxiety shoots through the roof and immediately assumes the worst... until his attacker is revealed to be none other than Goosepaw. "Hey, whoa, slow down!" He is cracking a smile now, tone lighthearted and relieved that it wasn't a ThunderClanner, though he is still catching his breath and reeling from the surprise.

He looks up now as more cats gather to view the aftermath of the attack, with Forestshade namely cracking a joke. Roosterstrut is always in support of playful banter; his clanmates are not the most chipper bunch, to say the least, so situations where folks can let loose and laugh are Roosterstrut's favorite. "I don't know why I'm offended that you'd think I wouldn't make as good of a meal as a marsh rabbit, but I am." The orange tabby replies, a playful smirk adorning handsome features. At this point, a marsh rabbit probably possessed more meat on its bones than any cat here.

The others begin getting ahead of themselves now, talking of tagging along to the training session that Goosepaw is so eager to embark on. Not that Roosterstrut would be against taking the youngster out for some skill-sharpening, but he isn't necessarily their mentor.

Back to the blue-eyed apprentice, Roosterstrut feels a slight pang grow in the depths of his chest, a particular fondness gleaming in pale green hues. The young tom just so happened to share a name with his late father, which truly doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but he feels inclined to... look out for him. Roosterstrut couldn't say exactly why he felt that way, but he did. "Me, taking you out to training? What about Honeyspot?" Maybe Goosepaw didn't care for their mentor; it happened sometimes, but that did not mean that Roosterstrut could simply take over their training.
