Warm amber eyes glanced around the camp, hesitation briefly crossing the molly's features. Lost in thought, the woman found herself debating something, almost unsure of what call to make. It would only be a matter of moments as she groomed her fur, giving it a quick series of licks over that one stubborn spot on her shoulder, before her decision is made. A flick of her dark colored tail is the only thing that could be spotted (if one were truly watching intently enough) as she slips out of the camp, into the cool night air. She saw little point in ensuring that she took others with her, or to even ask around for an extra set of paws. However, she wouldn't complain that much if someone silently slipped into line beside or behind her.

Something about nighttime walks or patrols was calming to Salamandersnap, and it was one of the only times she didn't find herself annoyed with the vast majority of her clanmates. She didn't understand them sometimes, but who was she to do anything about it. Regardless of her own opinions, Salamandersnap had to respect the higher ranking felines in the clan and deal with it. That left her here, on a silent patrol of the territory, disguised as a midnight stroll.

Settled upon a tree branch just outside of camp, the she-cat watched as a dark figure shifted the dying leaf-fall leaves beneath them. It was easy to pretend that, should she roam high enough, she could see above the treeline and somehow communicate with Splashdance from the thousands of fox lengths between them. With Smogstar's disappearance, the challenge was a much-needed distraction, a means to pretend everything was normal as the world grew colder around her.

But interruption from a clanmate would be fine for now. As the other moved away from safety, Ferndance slipped down the side of the tree, landing upon a leafy pillow that accentuated her with a crunch. She trotted quickly to the other's side, pupils widening as she recognised the figure as Salamandersnap. "Are you planning your mysterious getaway too?" the fallow tabby mewed in a hushed voice, blinking slowly. It seemed to be a ShadowClan special, to disappear in the middle of the night never to return. There was no judgment of Salamandersnap for believing she would do the same, only curiosity. "Where will you go?"

Sharpshadow's beating heart hasn't stopped trying to rip her apart from the inside - out since Smogstar's disappearance. It's paranoid maybe — probably, the way he pokes his head after Salamandersnap. For once, he's relieved by Ferndance's presense. It made him feel less like a crazy person for poking her, though... that didn't really make any sense now, did it? The tawny warrior's question twists his stomach into another knot, though it wasn't her fault. Could they be normal? ( The better question: could he? )

Sharpshadow tries ( and most likely fails ) not to seem too terrified, frantic, stressed, upset, perturbed, uh... etcetera, when he chimes, " If there's some — some kind of club for ShadowClanners that are looking to disappear in the middle of the night out there, I'd uh... love to know. " Who else would she like to ask? Smogstar, obviously. Snowypaw, Bonejaw, maybe even Shriketalon would know something...

"Please don't," Marblepaw mews, stepping beside the shifting dark figure of Sharpshadow and angling her ears to where Ferndance perches above them. A frown pulls against her muzzle. Her Clanmates have been dying or disappearing since her mother had brought her here. Before, really; she remembers the cruel grief behind Betonyfrost's gleaming eyes, the heaviness on Chilledstar's shoulders, the shining pink flesh on her mentor's body where she'd been mauled beyond recognition. She does not pursue Salamandersnap — she only sits just outside of camp, wrapping her tail around her paws.

"It could be dangerous to walk alone," she murmurs. "Even for a warrior. Maybe you should take Ferndance or Sharpshadow with you." Then, she supposes, they are risking two competent warriors disappearing into the ebony night, or even, as had happened to Lilacfur and Poppyglow, returning to their camp covered in blood and wheezing for breath.

How dare they assume she was walking out on Shadowclan! Maybe Smogstar couldn't handle it, or whatever else had convinced him to leave, but she would never do such a thing to her clan. Her lip curled back in a snarl as they all flocked towards her, assuming she was leaving them. Abandoning them. "I'm no coward like Smogstar," She pauses as her icy gaze rakes over the trio. "And how dare you think that I would ever do such a pathetic thing. Can't a cat go for a walk anymore? You're free to join me if you wish. Maybe a walk or moon-high patrol could do us all some good."

Her tone seems to slowly (almost reluctantly as if she realized she was being unintentionally harsher than usual) and becomes less cold as she extends the offer to her clanmates to join her. Marblepaw seemed concerned for her safety, and while she appreciates the thought and care, she wonders if the apprentice thinks she's incapable of handling herself. "I know how to look after myself, especially at night." She promises with a curt nod towards Marblepaw as she awaits final confirmation from any of the trio's members before exiting the camp.

As she waits, she wonders if they hate her. Do they despise the way she speaks of their leader? Er, former leader? Surely they had angry thoughts of their own. Could they really blame her for the way that she felt betrayed and angry? There was no signs of struggle with Smogstar's disappearance, so surely that meant he had left willingly? How could anyone be okay with that? How could they not be angry? Of course concern was an acceptable emotion, but she didn't think it excused the fact that she left willingly.

Marblepaw's right. It was dangerous to walk alone, and in ShadowClan at least: it's been that way for some time now. She was willing to join Salamandersnap. She can't say she wouldn't complain, but what else was there to do in this dump of a territory? No matter what she said, she was always willing to join. She was always willing to... to help. He wonders... had Smogstar ever seen that in him? Of course... whatever you tried to do didn't matter if you never actually did it...

Ferndance is Ferndance. Marblepaw is Marblepaw. He's... him. No, he can't really say he expects Salamandersnap to say what she does. Even less does Sharpshadow expect such a disgruntled feeling to bubble in his chest at the statement. I'm not coward like Smogstar.

Sharpshadow gapes. " ...Coward? " Before the clawing at her chest can be spit up and out of her mouth, he meets Salamandersnap with nothing but shock. Dark ears flicker back and forth. The fear-laden strain of the eyes widens into disbelief; and before Sharpshadow even understands her own opinion, she's speaking. " Smogstar wasn't — Isn't. Isn't a coward, " he tells her, and sudden, strange indignation lights the spines of her back. " He — are you stupid? " ...That probably wasn't a very Lead Warrior-y question to ask.

It's hard to care, though. Hard to care when Salamandersnap was yet another ShadowClan warrior Sharpshadow may be seeing alive for the very last time. He doesn't mean to. He really doesn't, but suddenly he's shouting. " Can't a cat go for a walk anymore? Do you know how many walks have gotten us killed? " He sucks in a breath; doesn't dare look back at the other two, fearing whatever disapproval he might see. " Ask Granitepelt! Ask Ghostmask! Ask the nearest f-fucking fox you see! Don't ask us that! " he spits. " Be f- mad! Be... w-what— whatever! But don't be mad at us for giving a damn! "

His tail gives a rare lash. A real one, flinging the bedraggled, broken end across the dirt. Yellowed fangs grind against each other, and maybe for the first time ever — maybe for the only time he ever would, he drags some Lead Warrior authority from the depths of hell. " I'm coming with you- " ...Ferndance could do as she pleased. " Or you aren't going anywhere. "
