He's already tired of it all. The cold, piercing his thick coat of long fur to bite at skin. It makes his paws feel numb. His lungs burn. His nose akin to stinging ice. Snow clings to the apprentice's legs as he marches back into camp from his latest day of training and work. Normally, he'd head to the fresh-kill pile for a meal, or to his nest for some warmth. Today, however, he takes a seat in a patch of sunlight, where he can feel the warmth shower his pelt as he begins to groom the frost from his fur.
At least he hasn't had to deal with too much nonsense today. Between Pikesplash, Shadestone, and his fellow apprentices, Nettlepaw felt as if he might pull his own fur out. And I'm only four moons, I'll have a gray muzzle before I make it to Warrior, he realizes with a cold sigh. Ugh. At least for now he could focus on licking himself clean. There was something soothing about grooming. It reminded him of Reedflower, and helped dissolve the boy's troubles, if only for a short time.
