golden hour | hollow tree

ooc - was thinking this was set just before the worst of the snow!

Flycatcher looks around and frowns. The bird was gone and with it so was the chance of bringing home something to go with their squirrel. He turns to Hollow Tree and shakes his head. "Looks like the bird has gone," He tells her. "Sorry, I should have been more mindful of where I was stepping, it's just so hard to see with all this snow." Green eyes flicker to the squirrel that sits nearby. "Still something is better than nothing I suppose."

They linger in this part of the forest for a little while longer, Flycatcher not wanting to give up quite yet, but after minutes pass and they find no sign of anything other than the two of them in the forest right now he decides it would probably be best they head back to camo. "Did you want to get back to camp?" He asks.

Reactions: Hollow Tree

Her stomach twisted painfully at the news of the bird being gone. But she doesn’t blame Flycatcher. The warrior knew they were a capable cat. It was the snow and the fact that it was leaf-bare. “It’s not your fault. We all have to adapt to this snow. I don’t think I've ever seen this much before.” the brown tabby comments, following their line of sight to the squirrel. There was still a chance to bring something back to camp.

The previous squirrel hangs between her jaws. At least they managed to catch one thing. But nothing else was out. Had the elders eaten already? She wonders who will go hungry today. If they stayed out longer would they find anything else? Her yellow eyes stare at Flycatcher as she is lost in thought. Realizing she was staring at an accident once again. She looks away sheepishly, swallowing away the embarrassment of spacing off. “Maybe we will come across something else to catch on the way back.” she suggested, praying that Starclan would provide.

Hollow Tree seems optimistic they might find something on the return to camp. Given how quiet it currently was, Flycatcher was less inclined to believe that, but he wouldn't rule anything out yet. "Mhm, we can hope!" He mewed in response. StarClan willing they would find something. Although they were managing to get by as a whole, most cats were eating very little or skipping entire meals to ensure the youngest and most needy members of the clan were fed.

As they made their trek back to camp, Flycatcher looked across to the brown tabby. "How are you feeling lately, Hollow Tree?" He inquired politely. "You seem in better spirits recently which is good to see."[

The brown tabby padded alongside the lead warrior. Hollow Tree breathed in the frost, her jaw fatigue from lack of energy. The squirrel hangs loosely and she wonders who would get to eat tonight. Maybe some of the hunting patrols would have better luck. Her eyes glance at her hunting partner before focusing on the path ahead. Better spirits? Perhaps they were right. The death of Morningpaw had weighed on her like it did to the rest of her clanmates. It was hard to believe that it was nearly a moon ago.

“I’m feeling alright.” which was true. Though, she had a feeling things were only going to get harder before they got better. “You must be excited.” the brown she-cat stated, her words slightly mumbled with the prey in her maw. It was easier to speak than what one might think. “With kits on the way, that is. Do you have names in mind?”

He smiles faintly as Hollow Tree confirms she is alright. Flycatcher doesn't doubt she is still grieving but being even just a little bit better is good in his eyes. Hopefully, as time goes on she and her family would continue to heal from their great loss.

"Excited and nervous," He responds with a chuckle. Because he is excited to be a father but also worried about the world he and Flamewhisker are bringing their kits into. It was hard not to be with death lingering in their own clan, let alone any of their neighbouring clans. "We have a few," Flycatcher began, thinking back on all the names he and Flamewhisker had discussed. "Mostly after the forest and birds, but Flamewhisker would like to name one after her mother once the time comes."

Excited and nervous was fair. Leaf-bare was a bad time for new kits to say the least. But things happened. At least they had a clan to help them through it. Hollow Tree couldn’t imagine trying to start a family all alone. Though, Flamewhisker was a strong feline. And Flycatcher was a hard worker. They would probably be fine either way.

After her mother? Hollow Tree couldn’t recall Flamewhisker ever speaking about their mother. So she wasn’t sure what their name was. But she faintly remembers hearing about a dog attack when Flamewhisker first came to Thunderclan. Maybe their mother had meant an untimely end. Were any ends timely. “Flamewhisker’s mother? What was their name?” she asks, “Would you like to name any after your parents?”

Hollow Tree does not know Flamewhiskers mother's name and that news does not surprise him. His mate was quite private about her past, and though he had more knowledge than most, there were still gaps in his knowledge that Flamewhisker had never told him. Sometimes he had considered prying, but he knew how hard it was to speak of family after losing it, so he never pushed her for information beyond what was comfortable.

"Her mother's name was Lily," He tells Hollow Tree. And then he thinks of her following question Would you like to name any after your parents? He pulls a small face as he thinks it over. "Possibly," Flycatcher says after a moment. "I would gladly name any of my kits after my fallen family members if I believed it suited them. Save for perhaps my father's name - Cloudypaw already carries that honour." He thinks of his niece for a moment, wondering if Moth had purposely named her after their deceased father. She had always been close with him after all.

The warrior takes a moment to truly think over those names. Lily was a beautiful name. There was something about it that reminded her of strength. But maybe she was thinking about the relation to Flamewhisker. Cloudy was also a good name. She rather enjoyed the shade provided by clouds on a hot day. Clouds could easily be gloomy as well. Carrying rain above them.

“Lily would be a fine name.” she says after thinking about it. Her yellow eyes focus on their path before them. “We should be getting back soon.” Hollow Tree pauses for a moment to place the squirrel down. Tasting the air to see if anything else was around. Looking to Flycatcher to see if he caught anything on the chilly wind.
