Two borders down, two left to go. Skyclan was one of the easier borders to patrol, and one of their neighbors that she personally didn't mind so much as the others. Not long ago she felt contempt for the pine-dwelling clan for openly allowing kittypets into their ranks. She used to think it made them weak, impure, lesser warriors because of it. With everything that Thunderclan had suffered the past few moons… with how much she had lost to the same horrible prejudices that she herself used to be blinded by… her heart had changed. She knew now that it didn't matter what ran through a cat's blood; it was their heart that mattered, their loyalty and dedication to their clanmates.
She allowed her cold cerulean gaze to fall to Ivorypaw, remembering all-too-well how her kittypet-blooded apprentice had almost lost her life not long ago in a poisoning attempt. She'd been sent away by Howlingstar for her own safety when the kittypet hate crimes had gotten truly bad, and she'd only just now been allowed to return. And then she glanced to Meadowpaw, her second apprentice, the little spitfire who reminded her so much of her younger self. Meadowpaw, who had been raised to hate non-clan born cats, brainwashed into following her tyrannical uncle under the false assumption that what they were doing was the best thing for the clan. She knew Meadowpaw had never wanted to follow Skyclaw. She just didn't want to lose her family, and it was an unfair position for someone so young to be put in. Now that it was all over, Palefire hoped she could be the guiding influence that both girls needed to move forward.
A light breeze ruffled her fur as they slowed along the border, the air crisp with the quickly approaching leaf-fall chill. The line between the two clans was growing more obvious now, as their own oak trees began to change color from green to red, and the pine trees of Skyclan's territory remained unchanged. The sun beat gently down through the wash of colors to light her apprentice's faces as she smiled down at them. "This is the Skyclan border. They're currently lead by Orangestar, and last I knew, her daughter Cherryblossom was deputy. Skyclan live similarly to us, with two notable differences." She paused briefly, her voice softening ever-so-slightly. "They're known for their climbing abilities, and for being the only clan to freely admit kittypets to join." Meadowpaw's family had many roots here, the kittypet side through Blazestar, and she wondered briefly how much the red tabby knew of her family's heritage.
