cw; emeto, panic attack
Another ticket deposited in a locked box, to be kept quiet and carefully manicured out of the sight of the clan. Their stomach sinks further and further... twists and contorts uncomfortably as they find a moment to finally part from Cherryblossom's side. She had needed their support, so they'd kept quiet... kept their panic firmly rooted in their chest where their heart hammered wildly. Her mother... it was her mother, they remind themself as they stand like a statue near her.... They couldn't crumble. They just needed to hold it together for her.. They could fall apart at home. In silence and privacy.
Their attention is far away as they brush past the array of colorful lives that represent their clan-mates, pushing out of the camp to be freed of so many pairs of eyes to masquerade in front of. To pretend like they weren't growing sickened with every passing thought- She had two. Just two. Tiny mimicries of themself and Raindrop beam at them in memory. It wasn't even... it wasn't even her first litter. She shouldn't have... Why did she? They run in rampant circles, a dog chasing its tail for an answer it won't find. They slink under the tree-tops to hide from StarClan, growing wary of how much the stars must know.
They pause, curling up tightly against themself as their stomach rolls, buckling over to heave a dry cough. I could've died, the panic screeches, I should be dead right now. Because if even Orangestar could not escape that fate, why did they get to? It must be a mistake... they weren't meant to be here. Did their paws always look so distant? Were they imagining the way their toes looked slightly transparent?
It seems their frazzled, dizzied escape attracts a gentle, concerned soul to trail after them in tones of cool ashes. It startles them, the sight of Doeblaze brushing through the ferns. Their flank rises and falls in short, panicked breaths, staring at her like a mouse caught in a corner. What could she possibly want? She knows! She knows and she's coming to kill me, they despair, certain that Lupinesong has whispered the truth to her mother and the former lead warrior has just been waiting for proof before sealing the deal.
