𓆩✦𓆪 — She tries ignore the frost that continues to get worse by the day instead her feathery tail brushes against the shoulder of Magnolia so that she follows after her, the red tabby glances up towards the tree trying to see which branches had the least amount of frost so her friend didn't slip while practicing. "Follow my lead... we'll start simple since this is your first time." Perhaps, she could use her tail or paws to brush the frost away while she climbs to ensure the other doesn't hurt herself but the red tabby glances to the base of the tree and unsheathed her claws so they'd dig into the bark. "So, first thing you wanna do is make sure you have a good grip that's the most important part of climbing. It's a good way of building your muscles too! Which you'll need since you gotta pull yourself onto the branch," She explains to her friend remembering how it felt to leap onto the dumpster to reach the rooftop that they both sat on to enjoy the view together, a promise of seeing one another the next time that Blazingheart came to the Twolegplace.

He slowly makes his way up towards the first branch making sure to watch where his paws are going and then pulls himself up soon glancing down at his current "student", he offers her a toothy smile before using his tail to try removing the frost so that Magnolia wouldn't risk falling. He'd be quick to catch or help her up if that happened but he tilts his head at her from where he's perched "Come on, Magnolia! I'll make that you don't fall." A cheeky grin on his maw as he adds on, "I'll make sure to catch ya with m'strong arms." As if to prove a point, he tries to playfully flex the muscles in his arms only to settle comfortably once more on the branch briefly thinking about the last time he had been tree climbing with someone, it had been Springshine several moons ago. His whiskers twitch at the thought of the girl who always seemed to bawl and hiccup for no reason whatsoever but his mind wanders away to focus on his friend down below.

blazingheart's a sharp tongued warrior that can oftentimes come off as insensitive or uncaring even if it isn't necessarily his intent upon first meeting. she tends to come off awkward during small conversations so she will dismiss herself if she finds the situation tense. she's rather prickly due to several events in her life and seen tense for the most part but she's trying to improve, all of her opinions are IC only.

Magnolia is whisked through the forest by Blazingheart, led by his tail which relentlessly rests against her as if without she'll wander too far and get lost. The gesture, which could be seen as so inconsequential, brings a slight smile to her scarred face; the care and responsibility Blazingheart has for his shadow and friend does not go unnoticed. When they finally halt beneath the trunks of mature pine trees, Magnolia casts her eyes upwards to follow her friend's gaze up the tree he has picked to practice climbing. As her head must tilt backwards to see the top of the pine the stark-white fur of her spine bristles- That's a real long way up... The blue molly tries to keep her composure in front of Blaze and whoever else attends this training. However the raised fur from tail tip to top of her head betrays all.

"A good grip," she repeats under her breath as she gruffly nods. Magnolia faired fine in the Twolegplace, launching herself from one Twoleg oddity to another to reach greater heights. Going straight up, into the canopy of a tree was a wholly different task. She's only ever been able to haul herself into an oak powered by pure adrenaline when a Twoleg kit was hot on her heels. When she brushes by to begin the ascent Magnolia quips, "After you!"

Encouraged by the tabby above Magnolia skirts closer to the pine and reaches up to dig her claws into the cold bark. "All right, okay... on my way..!" Her hindlegs scramble to get a clawhold but after a determined wince she secures herself to the tree and begins to heave herself up. Her healing forepaw aches as she claws herself up, quite ungracefully, but Magnolia is not about to bow out of the training now. Stupidly Magnolia's gaze strays from Blazingheart's red form to the ground below. If she were to manage to fall such a distance would just bruise her. Though she is aware that the further she goes the harder the fall will hurt, she swallows back an undercurrent of fear and continues up anyways. She's just got to get to the branch Blaze is on and then they're done, right?

At last, Magnolia pulls herself onto the branch and finally allows herself to breathe. Though the branch they rest upon is sturdy it still dips ever so slightly downwards at its thinnest end. "Oh... no that is so not good." Magnolia chews on her lip and waits for further instruction from Blazingheart. Her cheeks burn as she reflects upon the snail-like approach she took to get to the first branch and much to her embarrassment there must've been witnesses down below.

"So up we go, yeah?" She attempts to crack an equally toothy smile back at the red tabby but it falters slightly as the branch wobbles again. She is usually so good at guarding her fear but at this height she can't muster the wherewithal to care. Besides, only Blaze could see it here. "All right... so what, do you jump to other branches like a squirrel?"

What an odd group they must make, trotting through SkyClan territory. Doeblaze, small and serious and hunched against the chill wind, flanked by @BLOODY MARY and @cloudypaw~. The former cuts through the frost with lazy strides, the latter bustling happily along, both of them dwarfing their mentor, who nonetheless lopes along with head held high. Doeblaze hums quietly under her breath, contemplating each frost-slick tree, evergreen boughs painted with a delicate lacework of white.

She'd ventured out intending to give Bloody Mary another lesson in climbing and let Cloudypaw polish his skills before his assessment, but in this weather, that's seeming increasingly unlikely…

The sound of meows rings clear through the cold air, along with a rustling and a freckling of chill along her shoulders as minute flakes of frost slough off the branches above. She squints upwards, cursing the chill of the air as her eye waters, and makes out the brilliant red pelt of Blazingheart and an unfamiliar blue-and-white one, doubtlessly one of their newer additions.

" Hey, you two, " she calls upwards, hearing her voice richochet off the frosty trunks. The ground on which she stands with Blazingheart still feels as fragile as snow-crust, but hey, training is always better with a group. Nudging her own pair, Doeblaze mrrows, " Blazingheart's got the right idea. You need to watch your paws especially carefully when climbing trees in leaf-bare. The frost can make 'em slippery. "

" Try to get to where she is, carefully, Bloody Mary, " she instructs, ruefully wishing she knew the stranger's name, nodding to the next tree over from the pair. Doeblaze slips into a crouch, following instinct, then springs, her paws finding craggy clawholds in the bark by feel. Over her shoulder, she calls, " Cloudypaw, you can follow me a little higher. "

" The trees are the one place small cats have the advantage, " the tabby comments, not without amusement, as she pulls herself onto a branch just above Magnolia, torn ears catching the blue-and-white cat's remarks. It's true, and it's pleasant—only the slenderest branches usually bow beneath her, her single spot of vindication when she's used to getting smacked around by bigger cats in the sparring ring. Do you jump to other branches like a squirrel? Doeblaze's ears twitch with private amusement, but she figures it best not to step on Blazingheart's toes and keeps her muzzle shut.

Plodding across snow-covered ground, her bloody jaw is about all that keeps her from a wraith's whisper. Glimpses of deer flesh are few and far in between like this, too... She's too-keen a hunter to lose track, though. Too caught up in the starry whorls of that flank to possibly mistake it for something else... This thing prowls about with a hunch in its spine, and still, she towers like a wolf about her. Lucky is her shadowed for the leash clasped by her competence. As ever, a wolf trails wantingly behind.

Pallid eyes peel toward a pair amongst the trees... One of them a chick, the other a fully-fledged pheasant, just about. Did birds feast upon each other? They looked about ready to bite. Blood-spatter amongst the branches... What a sight that'd be! Nostrils flare in her anticipation. All they do is preen though. Practically slavering, she knows enough to deem this so. Preyblood's nudge warms her down to the bone. Attention is earned with startling quickness. She hears each and every word, she does. Overgrown ears shift to show it.

Something hungry rumbles its acknowledgement. Crescent claws slip from their sheathes. As the deer springs, the wolf clamors after her, her smile tight-lipped. Too bad for her fawn! Bloody Mary does not afford her the chance. In her eagerness, she's clumsy, and she trills a giggling apology from below. Delicacy— delicateness is the doe's... nothing to do with her, really. Hot breath fans against a frosted trunk. What effort did she owe her? Horseflies, the both of them, really...

She dredges herself onto a branch. It's haphazard, one pale limb left dangling floorward. It dips under her weight, but it's a sturdy thing. Like this, the little blue bird was mere whiskers away. A deer's shadow leers over them both. What if, she thinks... What if these teeth of hers flashed in the same manner as owl's talons. She'd surely hear the thud of her head this time around. She grunts as she peers over. " Could crack your skull open, heh. " It's real friendly, her remark. Last one was about a moon ago... They were due for another, surely? Stars may grow impatient, real soon...

BLOODY MARY ⬪ DAYLIGHT APPRENTICE. SHE - HER - HERS. 26 MOONS.
A dog-like woman. Large, with bulk in some places, and only lean muscle in others. Elegant at some angles, acutely strange looking at others. Has a longer, wolfish muzzle and gleaming dog teeth near-always on display due to an overbite. Skull presses insistent against her skin. Eyes are almost too - large, and not all sunken in her skull. Has large, tufted ears. Polydactyl, with a curved spine and recently-chopped tail.

They hadn't started the day looking for climbing practice — no, early that morning Fawnwhisker and Daffodilpaw had set out for tracking practice, more than anything. Fawnwhisker had said it would be good practice for when leafbare was in full swing, what with the frost clinging to every available surface, but by the end of it he was only dreading leafbare that much more. Cold paws with nothing to show for themselves carry him along, plodding along after his mentor; Daffodilpaw could blame it on the frost covering up any scent of prey that might be dumb enough to linger in the cold, but that wouldn't quite cover his own inabilities, too. At least one of the pair was still in good spirits, though truthfully it stung to see the casual way Fawnwhisker lead them forward, as though she didn't particularly care that they'd wasted the morning without any prey to bring back.

The sounds of voices interrupt his spiraling thoughts, and it's not hard to see where they're coming from — a small group, only just reaching the lower tree branches. Though Daffodilpaw's not particularly familiar with them, he can still recognize some new faces; they must be learning, then, maybe even for the first time. It's a strange thought, that not everyone out there can climb like the rest of SkyClan, especially considering that's one of the only things he's halfway decent at. What must it be like to spend all your time on the ground, he wonders? Never getting to see past the treetops, or just how small the world looks halfway up a trunk? In this moment, Daffodilpaw's especially grateful to have been born the SkyClanner that he is — there's nothing in the world quite like tree climbing, even if he doesn't often make it all the way to the top yet.

Though he doesn't want to interrupt the dual training session, Fawnwhisker urges him onwards, towards a nearby tree, and he can't help but oblige; after all, he could use at least one success today. Cold as his paws feel, it only takes a few moments to stretch his claws out and then Daffodilpaw has latched onto the bark, limbs heaving with the effort of propelling himself upwards to the closest branch. Not too bad, he thinks, taking a moment to gain his bearings. Both Magnolia and Bloody Mary are doing pretty well, especially for having little to no experience, and their mentors keeping careful pace, but Daffodilpaw is neither so inexperienced nor in the business of holding back. Up he climbs, claws finding purchase, and then he's up another branch, and then another.

Finding a steady limb to perch on, he pauses his ascent to glance down, firmly clinging to the branch to alleviate any fears of slipping. There's still plenty of height to gain, but Daffodilpaw finds he likes where he's at best; high enough to get a decent view, but not so high that it's a chore to get up and then back down again. Though the training sessions in the other trees aren't really his business, he can't help but keep a curious eye directed their way — surely learning to climb as a shadow was different from learning to climb as a new apprentice, at least in some ways. Magnolia looks a bit unsteady from her position, and Bloody Mary's comment surely doesn't help; even he can't help but shudder at the thought of cracked skulls. "Just hold on tight and go slow, yeah?" he calls down, serving both as affirmation to Fawnwhisker that he's listened to her lessons and something of a lame reassurance to the new climbers that they're all learning together, whether apprentice or shadow.
