Despite how openly she'd been scolded for trying to help Eveningpaw get back home when she'd washed up on Thunderclan shores, Squirrelpaw wouldn't hesitate to admit that she'd been worried about her. The river had been dangerously flooded, the water surging at a fatal pace. She hadn't been allowed to tag along to make sure the pair of Riverclanners had gotten home safely, so she was left to wonder and imagine the worst. Who was to say the twoleg bridge that separated their territory was even still standing? It wouldn't surprise her to find that it had been washed away in the raging current.
While she wasn't allowed to go out on her own to check the situation out, she hadn't been explicitly told that she couldn't look for her friend while they were already out on patrol. After all, there wasn't any sort of code that said they couldn't be nice to each other, as she'd bitterly pointed out to Leafhusk. Squirrelpaw had tried for days to be sent over to the Riverclan border, and after what felt like an eternity she was finally blessed by Starlan with a hunting assignment out in that area. Of course, that meant that her mentor and a few others would be present, but she might get lucky enough to at least spot the other apprentice from a distance and make sure she made it home.
The blue torbie waited (impatiently) while the patrol went about their business, until she finally found an opportunity to sneak away unnoticed. She didn't go too far, knowing that if she moved out of earshot and Lightflower called for her, she would be in big trouble. Ordinarily that didn't bother her much, but Squirrelpaw really didn't feel like being reprimanded today. The Thunderclan apprentice slipped as close to the river as she dared get when it was still rushing so quickly, her forest green gaze sweeping the skyline across the border. It wasn't more than a moment or two before a neighboring patrol appeared over the hill, and her heartbeat quickened when she spied a familiar grey figure amongst them. "Eveningpaw!" she called excitedly across the distance. She danced on her toes, hoping the girl would come closer. "I'm so glad you made it back okay! I was worried!"
