Howlfire took great pride in the training of her apprentices. With her own apprenticeship being so disrupted thanks to multiple mentors and moon-long stint at the Shelther, Howlfire liked to make sure she could teach her apprentices learned as much as they could from her. She frequently brought them on border or hunting patrols alongside their actual training, believing strongly in the benefits of observing as well as actually practising.

That morning, Howlfire had been lucky enough to not be called for a patrol, so when Ghostpaw was awake and had eaten, she indicated for her apprentice to follow. As they exited camp, a small, yet sharp gust of wind struck them and Howlfire shivered slightly. "Leafbare will be upon us soon," She remarked, glancing down at her apprentice. Howlfire could remember her first leafbare well, the cool mornings where she wanted to stay in her nest, the frost and snow crunching beneath her paws, how different it was to stalk prey in that weather. How would Ghostpaw handle the adjustment? Only time would tell, she supposed.

Once they were a good enough distance from camp, Howlfire brought them to a halt in a small clearing. Her amber eyes did a cursory glance over the area before she turned back to Ghostpaw. "Okay, Ghostpaw, today we're going to practice hunting. Does that sound okay with you?" When her apprentice gave her confirmation, Howlfire smiled at her. She had taught her how to do a hunter's crouch already but putting it into practice would be a whole new lesson. "Get into a hunting crouch for me," Howlfire instructed calmly. "Just like how I've shown you."
