Snakehiss wanders aimlessly in the night, his procession sluggish and his movement staggered as he cringed from the pain every so often. The bleeding had ceased, now leaving the left half of his face dried in crimson and reeking of metallic ichor. The jagged outcrop of his ear stings worse than a patch of nettles and the area where his eye should be throbs and suffers a dull agony. It takes all of Snakehiss' efforts to muster up the strength to soldier past intense waves of nausea and skull pain. He craves rest but needs to get to somewhere safe if he's to survive.
However, there came a point where the rogue mentally and physically couldn't go on. On skinny, trembling legs, the scrawny black tom lowered himself onto his haunches and clenched his teeth. Briefly, Snakehiss cranes his head and rolls his good eye back to stare at the moon above, though he quickly ducks his head down and winces as pain surges in his body. Good. He didn't even want to look at Silverpelt. For now, the exile chokes out through a trembling maw, "Why, StarClan?"
The former WindClanner squeezes his one eye shut, a painful revelation perched on the tip of his tongue. He slides his claws into the soil, kneading them as a crippling wave of loneliness and abandonment washes over his soul. "Everything... I've ever done... was for you!" Snakehiss cries out to no one, voice ringing out in the night air. "I betrayed that loathsome she-cat at the near cost of my life... condemned that rogue leader... left my home and my children... It was all for you, StarClan."
He tilts his head downward even more, curling his lip as he once again thinks of that damned she-cat. "And... and when your medicine cat, you chosen one breaks sacred law... this is how you repay me for trying to give her the punishment she deserves?!" How could StarClan have allowed Cottonsprig to take his eye, to rob him of perfect sight, when she had broken their code? Why should Cottonsprig deserve a family when Snakehiss had been forced to part with his?! "What have I done wrong?!" Snakehiss wails again, bitter indignation intensifying in his tone.
Gently, Snakehiss shakes his head and growls, "Curse you... curse you all... You wish for my suffering!" That was the only logical reason, wasn't it? Snakehiss had angered the ancestors somehow and now they were inflicting their wrath upon him, just as they had to Sunstar when they oversaw the wildfire and the dog attack. They were malicious, twisted, and evil. "I am loyal to you no longer. I only serve myself and my blood." The exile proclaims aloud with a lash of his tail. If Sunstar were going to fall, it would be in the name of his predecessors — the cats who had roamed the moors far before the time of StarClan.
