The search patrols were taking too long. It had already been a day (or was it two? she couldn't tell when it felt like eternity). Eaglepaw had yet to be found and Cloudpaw was going crazy. She hadn't slept since the flood, and couldn't get his voice out of her head, telling her that he would find her. "Go. I'll find you." She wanted to be angry with him for breaking his promise. They both knew she wouldn't have left without him if he hadn't made it, but he was supposed to keep his word. So when the hours ticked by and he still hadn't shown up at the beech copse, her heart shattered. The ivory apprentice refused to believe the worst, knowing in the deepest part of her soul that he was still alive. He had simply been swept away like countless other Riverclanners, and if they looked hard enough they would find him.
But there were other clanmates to search for, and the majority of their able-bodied warriors and apprentices were preoccupied with the rest of them. It would be wrong to say she didn't care about the others; she did, but she cared about her best friend more. Right now, his safety was the only thing she could think about. Cloudpaw refused to rest until he returned home at her side. Once she had made sure that Moonbeam was alright and settled in their new makeshift camp, she slipped away without telling anyone where she was going.
The alabaster molly slipped for about the hundredth time that night, her paws sliding across the mud and coating her fur in another layer of brown sludge. Her body trembled from the cold that had long ago seeped through her soaked skin, but she forced herself to keep going. Mint green eyes narrowed against the spitting rain as she scoured the riverbank along the Windclan border, having already checked close to fourtrees. He hadn't been there, so she kept going. "Eaglepaw!" she cried into the wind once more, her voice hoarse from hours of calling his name. "Eaglepaw! Can you hear me!?"
