Vixenpaw was quite confident in her ability to perform the tasks Coyotebite was teaching her. She hadn't necessarily caught prey yet, but she was getting there, she felt it in her blood.

"Watch this," she said in a low tone to a nearby warrior. Whether they were paying attention or not, shed hunch low, her steps careful and precise as she pulled her frame forward across the snow ridden ground. Her dark tail was leveled behind her, and the crunching of the snow the only thing that she frowned at. bicoloured ears sat alert on her head, aimed foreward.

Blue gaze stayed locked on to the form of her father, steps haulting as she neared close enough or noticed any ear movements. Finally, shed spring forward, paws outstretched, and aim to collide with the form of her father before nipping him as if claiming a piece of prey.

It’d been some time since Softkit and Vixenkit became apprentices, now with the bitter-tasting paw at the end of their names, Spiderlily didn’t have it in him to feel happy for kits so young to face the dangers of their world. His heart remained heavy, concealed in a bed of concrete, whispering into his mate’s fears hoping to let go. Unbeknownst to everyone, he was not a first-time queen, giving birth to a mate long deceased and a kit he had killed during his grief.

He breathed, sighing almost until his shoulders sunk into himself, feeling like putty, grief-stricken, but welcoming the familiar burn that came with warrior duties. Spiderlily had opted to sit silently, helm pivoting to stare at the medicine den while his mate stayed elsewhere, outside of camp, providing for their growing clan.

It wasn’t until Vixenpaw knocked into himself, drawing a loud oomph from the warrior, collapsing into himself with a rumbling shout of surprise, Vixenpaw’s name on the tip of his tongue, teeth nipping at his neck. He stared at his daughter, pinkish hues narrowing. “It seems your mentor has been teaching you well.” He commented from below, rearing upward, tail sweeping to curl around his daughter, softening the blow, ghoulish features pulled taunt. “Instead of attacking your father, perhaps it’s best to put that training to good use and hunt something … more edible.” He added.
thought speech

Berryheart had found, today, that his eyes were rather bleary. Though he often partook in languid pleasures, sinking into the plush of his nest to spend moments drifting on the surface of dreams, the fatigue that struck him today was different-feeling than sleep deprivation. Venturing out into the camp, Berryheart hoped that something might energise him- and e was struck with the sight of an apprentice springing toward his father. Pride, weirdly, bloomed in his chest. Seeing springing legs that he had helped bring into the world reminded him of the boons of his duty, so often stained with blood-red sights.

The Ghost advised his child to focus her efforts elsewhere, but Berryheart was not so convinced. "Sparring with one's parent is useful, I have found," he offered from a small distance- and though to some it might sound as if he was encouraging the young apprentice, he spoke with a seriousness that was convinced of his words' usefulness, despite the sickly croak in his voice.

Watch this

The voice had been so quiet she had almost not heard it. As she turns towards the apprentice, she watched as Vixenpaw lowered into a stalking position and began creeping up on her father. Not too far away was an unsuspecting Spiderlily, and Flamewhisker wouldn't help but chuckle as she waited for the huntress to catch her prey. She missed the days when her kits snuck up on her, pretending that she was prey. Enjoy it while it lasts.. she wanted to say aloud, but decided to remain silent. With a pounce, Vixenpaw collided with Spiderlily's white and black frame.

Flamewhisker rose to her paws, and padded closer to the pair. "Quite the hunter you will make." she praised the apprentice, offering them each a smile. She hadn't been apprenticed for very long, and her form was already pretty good considering her inexperience. "Maybe if Coyotebite doesn't have anything planned later you two could join Acornpaw and I on a hunt." Going out with an older apprentice was always a good way to learn, and in the middle of Leafbare there was never enough hunting patrols.

Off to the side, she heard Berryheart's voice...though, raspier than normal. As she turned to glance at him, she noticed his off eyes. It wasn't too long ago that he had refused a squirrel, claiming to not be hungry. I hope he's alright... She knew if she asked him, he would claim to be fine...but she made a mental note to check on him again later.

Cute. Vixenpaw was well ahead of those who may practice on leaves or pebbles— Spiderlily was a moving target, after all. One that she makes quick work of. And seeing her claws scrape the fur of her father makes Wolfwind's own itch to be out Maybe she could convince Berryheart. It'd get her blood pumping too, better than freezing her tail off within this crag.

Wolfwind sticks her head out enough to be heard, but not so much that Berryheart would turn on her — probably, anyways. The cold would meet a wall of cobweb that sensitive scarring sat beneath. It'd like be a nightmare in the future— but, aha, Wolfwind wasn't stressing herself about all that. " You're not edible? Coulda fooled me. " The tom's got eyes like a rabbit's, strange pink things. Vixenpaw would be practicing on live prey soon, and oh, Wolfwind would love to be out there with her. She's sure Coyotebite could watch her fine, but ya 'know... Who can say what's out there, at all times?

" Gahhh, oh please, take me with you... " she pleads, and she makes it too dramatic to be real, for sure. Berryheart is right here, after all.

I SEE A SONG OF PAST ROMANCE — Hailstorm ambles along the camp clearing watching Vixenpaw spring forth to collide into her father, a soft chuckle leaves his maw seeing that the youth was so eager to demonstrate her skills to Spiderlily. The warrior tells his child that she should put her skills elsewhere but Berryheart speaks about a spar and he glances over to his mentor with a hum of agreement though his eyes focus onto the patchwork pelted tom noticing his eyes, the raspiness of his voice, and can't help but draw closer with a small frown on his maw "Do you need anything?" His voice is quiet though his worry and concern for Berryheart louder than anything, he did not doubt his mentors skills in healing. After all, he had been the one to discover the cure for yellowcough so he could never doubt the tom for his ability and experimentation when it came to obtaining knowledge or healing. He turns his attention to Spiderlily and Vixenpaw wearing a smile upon his maw "That was a good pounce, Vixenpaw. I doubt a mouse would be able to escape you,"

The sound of Wolfwind's makes him turn, his smile much more gentle, and a chuckle leaves his jaws before speaking once more "You'll get out there again soon enough." And its true, it wouldn't be long until the lead warrior was running about in the forest once more with the rest of her clanmates though he does wonder how she'll adjust to the lack of her eye. He could never imagine losing an eye or eyes, he imagines that it would be awfully painful and he thinks about the scars over Batwing's eyes... He had been fortunate enough to not be blinded.
