I refuse to lose [ Thunderclan Patrol ]

Flamewhisker I'll sleep when I'm dead

Her first time leading a patrol. She ruffled out her pelt, silently thanking her mother for the thick coat she had been blessed with. It felt strange padding in front of her clanmates, but she supposed she would need to get over that soon since she was a lead warrior now. The orange tabby pulled her jaws back in a yawn. Dawn patrols were far from her favorite thing to do, especially now with leaf-bare starting. This morning was no exception...a crisp northern wind tore through the undergrowth. She couldn't imagine what it felt like along the morelands, with no coverage to protect them. Maybe that is why Sootstar is how she is. The wind chills her heart.

She shook the thought away, not wanting her ill thoughts to set the mood for their patrol. Flamewhisker would glance behind her, making sure everyone was still trailing behind. "Alright, let's make this quick. The faster we set our markers, the faster we are back in the warm camp." she would say, adding a small chuckle onto the last bit. "I expect everyone to be on their best behavior."

—————————————【 She/Her | Windclan warrior | 32 Moons 】——————————
Curious sapphire eyes would watch the Thunderclan patrol with a stoic expression upon her maw. Her own patrol was not far behind her, the black smoke would silently push her way through the tall grass like a lioness in the savannah and stand at the border before speaking calmly, "Greetings, Thunderclan is fairing well, I hope."

Her tone was simple, with no real emotions to decipher from it as her plume-like tail swayed behind her with the breeze. The cold seemed to not bother the she-cat, for she would stand as tall and confident as if it were a warm full-leaf day. "The cold days are going to make things rather difficult, aren't they." It was her own delicate attempt at small talk, she held no true feelings for the Thunderclanners before her, but she also did not want to leave another clan's patrol unsupervised so close to their border.

[penned by Zaeya].

Foliage grows thicker as she nears the ThunderClan border, the scarce tree here and there becoming more common. Sootstar remembers when she lived a life where trees towered over her, where you had to squint between the leaves to catch a glimpse of the stars. It might be coldest place to be in the hills and the hottest in green-leaf, but it was a price Sootstar would pay for StarClan's watchful eye and protection.

Besides, her winter coat was coming in nicely. Many cold breezes she was shielded well from, though she'd be lying if she didn't feel the cold jab at her ears and paws every now and again.

Moonshadow speaks small talk, Sootstar doesn't think they should bother. She has no desire to keep on ThunderClan's good side, Emberstar was not a leader she admired or respected. Not that the bright-furred molly should take offense, she didn't admire or respect really any of them.

"I hope they are. WindClan has been doing marvelous." Her whiskers twitch against a cool breeze as Moonshadow uses the word "difficult", "Maybe more challenging than green-leaf, but WindClan will do just fine. How about ThunderClan? Your prey isn't hiding away is it?" She says confidently with a ring of arrogance. Again, she could not bother being sickeningly pleasant with these cats...

Weaselclaw, like Sootstar, does not bother concealing the slight tug of his mouth towards the earth or the horizontal slide his ears take. ThunderClan is one step away from SkyClan, in his eyes. Weaklings, led by a golden fool. He stalks beside Moonshadow and purposefully marks a gorse bush, eyeing the ginger ThunderClan she-cat with smugness.

"With the fire, perhaps it's harder." He pads to Sootstar's side slowly, twining tails with his mate for only a second before moving on to mark a shrub. "WindClan, as Sootstar said, is thriving." The arrogance drips from every word.

Badgerstrike wasn't sure what she expected from this patrol, but she wasn't going to complain. She followed Flamewhisker and fully intended to follow her orders. The big, muscular molly looked down at the windclanners gathered as if sizing up the best opponent, and she wasn't subtle about it either. You could see it in her eyes, the way they lingered on each one for a moment before moving to the next. She gave them a toothy grin.

Moonshadow was fine, but these two.... Weaselclaw and Sootstar.... Oh, how she wanted to squish their arrogant mugs into the mud.

"Our prey is doing just great!" She said. " No matter what leaf bare throws at us, we will persevere." She spoke with confidence.

She was, in fact, doing her best to be nice and not cause problems.

"It's good to hear you're thriving, though. Nobody deserves to die frozen and starved." She added. She was honest to an extent. There were some who deserved such a fate, but Windclan hadn't made it to that point yet for her.

She got to marking a tree, rubbing her face on its bark. That was what she came for, after all.

YET.

♚ Unlike how she used to be, eager to start a fight with ThunderClan; she didn't like Blazestar, but she hated Emberstar even more. They reeked, smelled horribly to her- but now, she found no strength to mock the other Clan. Her presence is small towards the back of the patrol, violet-tinted hues watching Moonshadow to make sure nothing happened to her. Weaselclaw could watch after his own mate, their Queen- Hyacinthbreath would keep a respectful distance from the smoke molly.

"We will all starve soon." Cynical, pessimistic- but the truth, if leaf-bare did no justice to them. They didn't have trees to nestle under in the moors, and ThunderClan didn't have the tunnels to keep them safe from the wind if it got too cold. They were both weakened by the nature of their camps, their lifeblood. "What matters is how we brave the cold together." She whispers, eyes turning away from the patrol so she could mark another gorse bush.

Oh, they were all speaking of thriving, of doing marvellous, of being blessed! And how greatly Trufflepelt believed that StarClan would carry them through every hardship they faced, daring not to let their loyal subjects suffer in the cold. If they starved, well- that would be cruelty on earth, and the starry skies they would join by their prophet's claws! His apprentice at his heels, the old tom made his mostly-bounding strides. A gilt gaze slid to Sparkpaw- "You can tell the difference between WindClan and ThunderClan scent, can you not- it is quite stark indeed!" he chuckled, shoulders bouncing with his laugh.

Glad eyes of gold found the Windclanners then, though one seemed slightly less prideful than the others. Still, the solidarity shone, even through pessimism! She showed no inescapable suffering. She was yet to join the haven. "How glad I am you are thriving! StarClan stands benevolent above us all, do they not?" he cheered, honey-sweet smile upon his tusked maw. And the tall cinnamon tom truly meant his words! How wonderful it would be if none needed to be saved from the cruelty of the cold... his duty yet waited.

At first Jaypaw's beans were dragging the ground, leaving little worm marks as he struggled to keep up with his mentor and clanmates. He'd yawned so many times that he has to wiggle his jaw out of that position, almost walked into a tree even. However when he started to catch new scents (and felt the cold smack of wind), the young tom perked up in an instant. "Brr...," Jay says back to his mentor in joking confirmatoin but really, it's not much of a jest. It really is freezing. The apprentice uses the small grouping of cats as a buffer against the chill but it slips around their legs like an unwelcome serpent. For a second there, he dances in place on the border before he realizes that makes him look like he has to wee so he plants his feet firmly then (though that is sorta what they're here for partially, right...). He tries to make himself busy, whistling at the scenery around them.

'They live out in the open like this?' He muses to himself before catching sight of Badgerstrike's marking technique. Oh yes, that feels much less exposing! Jay leans his head down, smushing his head against a grouping of stones and gritting his teeth against their smooth cold surfaces. Or maybe he's masking his reaction to the Windclan cat's tone. Sheesh, while the Shadowclanners had been gruff, they sound like their heads might pop. He wants to say something but his head is empty on the topic. After all, this is his first leafbare in the wild, he really doesn't know what to expect and he's not old enough to understand clan politics either. All he gets is that adults talk sometimes just to fill empty space. Thankfully, he sees his clanmates have it covered, sooo, he can ask the real questions. "Uhm... Where the heck do you go when it rains?" His knowledge on the clans is limited, severely, and all he sees is rolling moors.

He trots along after Sootstar and Weaselclaw, clinging to Moonshadow's side and keeping his distance from Hyacinthbreath and wishing he'd been put on any other patrol available. Her cynical comment about starving to death made his fur prickle with unease; as if he didn't have enough worry in his head about leaf-bare, as if ever runny nose didn't send him running in the opposite direction in a panic. Wisteriapaw walks with his paws lifted up daintily to avoid getting too cold from the every expanding snow that seems to cling to everything lately. He misses newleaf.
Their leader and lead warrior are happy to mock and politely chide the forest cats, reminding them of their fire and struggles under the pretense of polite chatter. He ignores them as he often does such talk. Wisteriapaw didn't want to fight anyone, he didn't want to get dirty.
Jaypaw's comment earns an irritated twitch to his ears and he scoffs at the other tom. "There's tunnels and shelters to stand under, you ThunderClan dolt." Did they think they just stood there and got soaked? Idiot. He was not fond of the tunnels but they did their job at keeping cats dry when it came down to it and eventually they might even move into them longterm as it got colder and colder.

If this were when Jaypaw had just joined the clans, he'd be far too meak to say anything back to an answer of that tone. After all, he'd bit his lip with his old clanmates talking much worse junk to him and though he has a temper buried deep down, he'd swallowed his tongue at a fear of ruffling feathers. His overactive mind had been afraid of being kicked out for being bad, even though he'd seen clanmates do worse (but that's different, they were born there). Now he's a little older, a little bolder, and as the saying goes, he should be a tad wiser-er to. He's the more mature one here by far (double Wisteria's age even), he should really obey Flickerfire's words and just keep civil but the words come flying out without a second thought, "Dolt? Yeah, well, at least we're smart enough to live somewhere that has lots of cover so we're not hawk food, you- you Windclan moron." Who wants to walk around smelling like cold dirt and dry grass all the time when you could smell like sweet oak musk and minty bushes? Maybe they need some rain to get all the worm poop off. He's tired of others calling him dumb, he's putting his paw down, darn it. Jay turns his head to the side, huffing dramatically.

Flamewhisker I'll sleep when I'm dead

Unfortunately, what hopes she had of getting this done before any Windclanners arriving were soon dismissed. An unknown face was the first to greet them, and Flamewhisker nodded her head in greeting. The other Molly attempted small talk, and while there was nothing overly friendly about her, she seemed nice enough...no different than she herself would be. While she was getting ready to respond, the one Windclanner she did not want to see joined them. The only movement that would hint at her displeasure at seeing the moorland queen was a twitch of her ear. "We are doing just fine. No different than any other leaf bare."

Another arrogant morelander joins them, and it takes all she has to hold in an eye roll. She hadn't ever had any personal experiences with any Windclanners, but now she could see why some of her clanmates were not fond of them. They were truly as arrogant as she had heard. Deciding now was an appropriate moment to dismiss herself from the who's clan was doing better competition, she took a few steps away to mark her maw along a bush.

She kept her ears alert to make sure her clanmates kept their tongues under control, and her attention was immediately grabbed when one of the Windclan apprentices called her own a dolt. The fur on her shoulder begged to rise, but she had to remind herself that it was her duty now to set an example. Her jaws opened to respond, but Jaypaw jumped the gun. Her eyes widened slightly, but she honestly wasn't upset with her apprentice. He had asked an honest question, and he had done so without insulting anyone. It was the windclanner who had smarted off. "That's enough." the fiery tabby would warn, flicking her tail for Jaypaw to come to her. "We're done here. We've marked enough to keep the unwanted out. Let's go." she would say shortly, before motioning her clanmates to follow her. Once she was certain she had their attention, she would slip through the undergrowth.

Sootstar supresses a growl of disapproval at Hyacinithbreath's comment, maybe but ThunderClan didn't know that WindClan faced such peril. The blue furred she-cat doesn't find herself jumping to open her maw though, instead she keeps quiet and marks along the border. Wisteriapaw and a ThunderClan apprentice begin to bicker, Sootstar refrains but laughter itches at her throat.

Sootstar expects Hyacinithbreath to possibly reprimand her son, but Flamewhisker of ThunderClan exits the scene from the patrol before she could, Sootstar guesses. Once they were out of ear shot a smirk slips onto her face, "ThunderClan dolt... couldn't hold that one in, could you?" She muses to the apprentice prior to leaving the border herself.
