pafp I THINK I LOST YOU IN THE FIRE [ ✶ ] CHECKING IN

Eveningpaw could have other friends, he tells himself. It is okay that she had not invited him to sneak out with her. Better, even, when he considers the state that Magpiepaw was in when finally they found them. Bloodied, a mess of crimson splashed against a night sky pelt. Would Graypaw have been so brave? Probably not. the thought makes him clench his teeth, disgust at his own imagined cowardice making his stomach churn like the river on a stormy day. He had to be braver he thinks, if he wanted to be able to protect anyone at all. His mind flashes to a blue toned pelt before he can stop it and suddenly theres a sharp pain in his chest that makes him pick up the fish he had been carrying, makes him move his paws just for the distraction alone. Anything to not think about it.

His path to Moonbeam's den is blessedly free of obstructions and immetely upon his arrival, his pale green eyes drift to that familiar form. Older, Magpiepaw is so close to his warrior ceremony. How would this affect the timing of it, he wonders. Had they thought of that when they had agreed to this little venture? Or had they been too swept up in the idea of it, the grandeour he has no doubt Eveningpaw used to lure them out of the safety of camp. "Hey, figured you could use something to eat" he says, dropping the fish at his den-mates paws.

He did not consider Magpiepaw a friend, what with all the moons that stretched between them but he did not hate him either. And besides, it wasn't exactly like his motives behind coming here were exactly unblemished by selfishness. He lingers for a couple of moments before finally he sits down. "So uh.." he starts awkwardly, uncertain in how to word the question he wishes to ask in a manner that was natural with this long stretch of silence filtering between them. "What was it like? Facing down that fox? Were you scared?" pale green eyes study Magpiepaw's face, searching for what he is uncertain. Truth, maybe.

GRAYPAW RIVERCLAN APPRENTICE ; HE / HIM
LILYBLOOM X LAKEMOON BROTHER TO EAGLEPAW ; MENTORED BY LAKEMOON
A plush coated apprentice with a pelt marbled in varying shades of gray and white. He has dull green eyes and a tall stature. Most of his personality can be described as carefree though some also say that unmotivated is a more than apt term. His trust and love is easily won through praise but he will do little work to receive it.
easy in battle + no formal training

They days following the fox attack had left it thinking. Had left a mark on them that they didnt know how to process really as it had stared down the face of death in that foxes' beady black eyes as it lunged for its throat and came out the other side with but a head injury and open wounds on its shoulders.

The black and white cat wondered if it had done the right thing, wondered why they weren't as upset with Eveningpaw as they should be. She didnt lead it into a trap that was for certain, she had no idea that something like that would come barreling through the forest. Yet they felt like she owed something to them in a weird twisted way, and they had to dismiss the thoughts completely before their mind started to twist it into a narrative unforgiving.

Still, the young cat looked up when there was movement from the entrance. Moonbeam had been some where else for the time being so they were largely in the den alone. Though surprise flickered across their face as Graypaw came padding through with a fish in their mouth.

The grey ki-apprentice greets it with seeing if they wanted something to eat, and they tilt their head. Graypaw was one of Lilybloom and Lakemoons' brood, much younger than it but the sentiment he seemed to be trying to share was well appreciated. Even if it didnt know what to make of this notion and furrowed their brows a little, but the usually tartness of Magpiepaws' tone was- different as it spoke, "Uh- thanks Graypaw?" They offered softly and flicked an ear slightly. They had no harsh feelings towards the tomcat, but maybe it could change things with the young cat. Maybe they could be civil at least instead of friends.

They look at the fish and feel their stomach twirl, but force themselves to eat a piece of fish even if they didnt want to. They hadn't been eating well the last few days as they hadn't felt up to it for the most part, and it swallowed the fish thickly. Before then looking to the marbled apprentice once more.

Graypaw questions them about what it was like, if they were scared. They start slightly and feel a tang of pain in their head, putting a paw against their temple slightly to ease it with pressure. Magpiepaw shifted slightly and shrugged, how was it suppose to answer that? "What was it like? Of course it was terrifying, but you have to do what you have to do to protect your clanmates"

Magpiepaw wasnt sure if they would do it again- oh fuck who were they kidding? They'd do it again and again as they had never felt more adrenaline run through their body even if they had been thrown and chased like a toy. Magpiepaw looked off at the wall of the medicine den, "'It was like staring death in the face- like if death was also terrified of what it saw" It couldnt explain the feeling very well.

He worries for his brother. Of course he does- Graypaw had a rough start, one that seperated them whilst they were young. Not for long, he muses, eyes watching his brother step through camp. Ears perked gently as his brother dropped the fish, and green eyes grew more aware. He was silent, watching the other pick up the fish and head towards the medicine den. Eaglepaw blinked for a moment, a bit bewildered at that.

There were times where Eaglepaw was able to not meddle. This wasn't one of them. He pushed to his paws, his tail twitching as he swept across camp. Sun glinted from tabby fur as he headed into the medicine den, ducking down. Eyes adjusted, catching the tail end of the conversation. Moonbeam would likely be raving at him to be moving soon, so he surveys quickly. "Graypaw, Magpiepaw." He greets softly. It was like staring death in the face- like if death was also terrified of what it saw.

He paused for a long moment, also considering those words. When he spoke again, his tone was inquisitive, if a hint more friendly then that of the two in front of him. (Amusingly he thought to himself that there was a brief chill in here.) "You're saying it was afraid?" He asked, meaning the fox- what a novel concept, something that could kill them quicker then they could shout for help, being afraid of them.

.·:*¨༺ ☾ ༻¨*:·. Apprentices weren’t exactly known for their logic or rational thought, that’s no secret. When Magpiepaw and Eveningpaw had been hauled back into camp, the former beaten bloody and the latter reeking of fear and fox, Lakemoon had thanked the stars her sons had more sense than that, until it dawned that she could see them accepting such a proposal, if asked.

Perceptive navy hues don’t miss seeing Graypaw disappear into the medicine den, but the sight of her second kit on her apprentices heels prompts the warrior to draw over herself.

Lakemoon doesn’t go far into the den, only just close enough to hear the tale Magpiepaw has begun to tell the two apprentices. Like if death was also terrified of what it saw. Brow bones draw together at the apprentices reply, fox’s were nasty business, but at least the apprentice had made their answer poetic. “You survived a harsh life lesson.” The scarred warrior comments after a moment, giving the injured apprentice a curt nod. “Eveningpaw has you to thank for her life, but I hope you two were able to take away more than fear from that situation.” Her words are chosen carefully, not quite praise but not a lecture either.
