"i missed you so much," bobbie murmurs, pressing her nose into the velvety fur of her daughter's head where they sit in camp. and she had, so much, worrying over her kits and how they were doing back home nearly every step of the way. each obstacle had been buoyed forth partially by the thought of three smoky-furred shapes, waiting back home, pushing her sore paws for one more step, one more climb. the journey's landscapes had been alien and beautiful, certainly, but nothing compared to the simple joy of skyclan's towering pines and her daughter at her side.

"i wish i could beam the sights from my mind to yours," she remarks with an uninhibited smile, finally drawing her muzzle back. surely the tales of cherrypaw's brush with death have made their way to lupinepaw, and the tender new scars along bobbie's back are a testament to her own. "i was happier knowing you were safe at home, though. you would have loved it, though....so many strange sights i've never seen before. there was a huge lake that drowned the sun, far off in the distance."

"enough about me, love. how has it been back here?" bobbie tilts her head, heart aching to see her daughter looking so old, like the warrior she's growing into. she knows of the struggles, of the tragedy, but she can only hope lupinepaw has had bright spots she'd regrettably missed. "how's your training been going? you might be taller than me now...."

❀‿ "I've missed you more, I bet," She purred, meeting Bobbie's affection with a nuzzle of her own. Bobbie came back a changed cat, losing her twoleg collar and sporting a new scar, she looked every bit like a warrior of the forest and not at all like the soft-spoken former kittypet that lived in her infant memory. Lupinepaw wondered if she knew how different she seemed, not just in the material loss of a collar and gaining of battle scars, but her very being was transformed. Bobbie held her small form with a newfound confidence, she seemed more self-assured, Lupinepaw thought.

"It sounds like a dream, I wish I could see everything too. I'm glad you got to see it, though, and... Maybe it'll be my turn to see the land beyond the forest on a grand mission to save everyone someday. And if I'm nearly taller than you now, then I definitely will be by then," She teased lightly. Honestly, she hadn't thought much of adventure outside the pine forest, not in the way Bobbie or Cherrypaw had. But she wasn't a homebody, either, their trek to Shadowclan had proven to be a shock in its own right, but she recalled looking toward the Highstones and wondering if she would ever see what lied beyond them herself, ever see the sun-drowning lake her mother described for herself. If a time such as that one ever came again, she hoped she would have the bravery to volunteer when it did. She quirked her whiskers on instinct when Bobbie asked about her experiences back home but found herself hesitating.

What if she was honest? What if she told her that she spent the entire time wading in the miserable swamps of anxiety, watching their clanmates waste away from disease, nearly succumbing to it herself despite her treatment, fleeing from rogues, and snapping tearfully at her own littermate? Lupinepaw had nothing to be proud of in the time they'd been away. Telling her this would only serve to heighten her mother's regret, it would bog down the light of her successes with needless guilt-tripping. It wasn't Bobbie's fault that she was like this. There was nothing to be gained in telling her the depressing truth.

"Things have been alright..!" she said finally, airily, flicking her tail with a small flourish, "Of course, yellowcough and the rogues left us with plenty to deal with but... nothing Skyclan wasn't strong enough to face, I think. Living alongside the other clans was interesting, but I made some new friends." Lupinepaw felt bad for being vague, but nothing she said was an outright lie, and she felt bit better knowing this. She shuffled her paws considering her own likely lackluster progress in training, "Training's been fine, too," she fibbed more outright this time, and moved to shift the subject once more, "Dandelionwish is going to be a father soon, I think he's really excited, it's very sweet."

In the effort to bounce the topic of conversation away from herself, she was suddenly reminded once more of her starlit memory from the last moon, and sent up a brief prayer (message? thought? whatever it was) to her dainty friend amongst the stars, Spiderpaw, I hope you're listening!

"Sorry, Mom, is it alright if I ask you something..?" her eyes glittered girlishly, "I've been wondering, well... What's up with you and Blazestar?"
