lostkit was, for all intents and purposes, an angel. she had been in shadowclan a moon now, and she could tell that she was a little more...play nice than many of her clanmates. for the most part, she was content to let bygones be bygones, to ignore silly pranks or sneering side-eyes (she had been raised around worse, even if she herself never wanted to partake in such). most of them thought her soft, a useless kit, questioned why their resources were going to her. admittedly, she felt bad about using up the clan's resources in the depths of leafbare -- they had plenty more than many of the rogues that scavenged beyond their borders, but she knew that providing for so many mouths that couldn't feed themselves was not the easiest.

so lostkit did her best to be a model clanborn kit even if she wasn't one, taking the smallest scraps she could when there wasn't enough food to go around, fetching things for the elders when she could, learning about the warrior code and starclan. she had done nothing troublesome, living up to her promise to ternstar. but, well, everyone had a breaking point.

bramblekit -- bramblepaw, now, finally -- had gotten on her nerves for the last time, pushing her into the thorns outside the nursery. lostkit wasn't too upset about the injuries themselves; they had been quite surface level. still, the tom had annoyed her for the last time and made her use up marbleleaf's time and resources. the older tom had eased up since then, settling for sneers and trash talking her, but nothing physical that might invite further scrutiny. still, let it never be said that lostkit didn't know how to hold a grudge. she had reentered the nursery with a steely glint in her eyes that night, and even though bramblekit had still been awake at the time, making eye contact with her, he hadn't pursued the matter, turning and falling asleep.

lostkit had let it slide then, focusing on making sure the wounds healed properly. but bramblepaw had just been named and ascended to apprenticeship the night before, and lostkit had been biding her time so patiently.

in leafbare, with so little food to go around in the first place, odds and ends frequently made their way into the freshkill pile as they became more desperate for food. oftentimes they went unconsumed, or an experienced warrior would carefully pick it apart, making sure to avoid the worst bits -- but the queens were always careful to steer their youngest and eldest away from those bits. still, lostkit had seen them in the pile, and today she noted that there was a leftover frog in the pile that looked just so ever off. she flipped it over carefully, grinning as she looked closely at it and noticed how the mottled skin was definitely more discolored than it had been yesterday -- a detail she only knew because she had examined it closely the previous night. perfect.

grabbing it and a smaller frog that looked decidedly less suspicious, the cream tabby trotted across to camp to where bramblepaw was soaking up the morning sun.

"bramblepaw," she purred in greeting, setting down the frog in front of him -- carefully keeping the better-preserved side facing him. "congrats on becoming an apprentice! i brought you some of the new freshkill, just to apologize for bumping into you the other day," she said innocently, beaming up at the newly-made apprentice. "after all, our budding warriors deserve the best to get their strength up for training!" she added with a giggle.

bramblepaw was giving her a suspicious glare, but couldn't help but perk up at the flattery. bingo, the kit thought to herself as he pulled the frog closer. "i can feed myself, unlike you," he scoffed (which lostkit was pretty sure was a lie, since the apprentice had seen exactly one border since becoming an apprentice and hadn't done much else -- he wouldn't shut up about it). "but you're right, i do deserve the best prey," he said with a sniff, digging into the frog without a second thought.

lostkit beamed.

"well, i'll leave you to it! good luck with training, bramblepaw!" she purred, taking her own piece of prey and running back to the nursery before anyone could see them together. it was all too easy to play innocent and tear up if any paws were pointed, of course, but she was content to watch her plan play out from afar -- and play out it did. the kit was viciously happy to see a somewhat more haggard-looking bramblepaw pull himself across the camp later that day to marbleleaf's den, and then promptly get chewed out and left behind from patrol the following morning.

ah, leafbare was a perfect season for revenge.
