As greenleaf wanes and gives out to leaf-fall, so does the greenery of their world, the beginnings of oranges and yellows sprout between leaves and blades of grass. It's a beautiful day for one of Bugbite's and Streamsong's usual outings.
Today she swims just a bit in front of him as he tries his best to keep up with her on stepping stones, tongue stuck out in sheer concentration. He knows he can't swim, but with her right there, it's hard not to want to show off. Besides, he knows how much his mate likes the water compared to her- He's so caught up on which paw goes where, claws unsheathed and digging in to grip on to what little moss coats the rocks, that he doesn't notice her stop in front of him in a paddle. When he does realize she's quite literally right in front of him (and in fairness, he probably should have looked up- he was so in the zone he couldn't have noticed if she had talked to him) he makes a gasping noise, one of his paws going straight in. The rest of his body follows just a second after, disappearing under the water.
Starclan must hate him because the way he fell was the most embarrassing thing, especially in front of his mate! He comes up gasping, floundering in the water like a fish that couldn't swim. After a few heartbeats he's able to hook his claws in to the moss once more, but the heaviness of his pelt prevents him from hauling himself all the way up. On the other paw, maybe Starclan favors him, because the waters are calm and no sweeping current threatens to drag him off of the rock. "Shore, p- please!" he knows she's probably already making her way around to grab him and haul him back to the pebble beach but it doesn't stop fear from seizing his chest.
"Sorry, m' sorry." he squeaks out an apology. He has to put his trust in Streamsong, she wouldn't let him drown! But Stars above, he's so scared, and he wants out! Theres a reason he's a drypaw and not a swimmer.
