Gaurding the camp - and the nursery especially - is a task Periwinklebreeze has always taken seriously. From sootstars raid upon shadowclan, to the fight at the barn (and the many other battles he'd not been present for) - each time he finds himself hovering protectively in front of the gorse, ears pricked and on high alert. Wolves - stars, the more he thinks on it the more ridiculous it gets. Thunderclans idea is... not the worst though, and so all he can do is pray that it will be enough. Patrols have been halted and the clan already told to stay within camp, where they'll be safe from harm - now all that's left is to ensure they actually listen.

Dimmingsun had not received a direct order other than to return home, but the day had crawled ever since, and he determined sleeping to be an impossible task once the moon had risen. Whenever he closed his eyes, images of snarling muzzles and sharp teeth invaded his mind. The arrival of newleaf didn't uphold the short little peace that WindClan had.

Instead of letting himself get tortured by possible nightmares, Dimmingsun rises from the dip that warriors tend to sleep in, and lets his paws carry himself to the entrance of camp. He's not shocked to find someone else there - although it takes him a moment to properly recognize the silver pelt that's illuminated by the night's moon and stars.

"Periwinklebreeze," he calls out, voice soft and kept to an almost whisper as to not startle the tom too much.

A beat, then another. He settles close to the lead warrior, finding comfort in the knowledge he's not the only one this worried. "I hope you're right. About this working." It has to, or else...

➴➴ Nervous pacing carries Gravelsnap back and forth along the length of the gorse wall, their inky tail lashing behind them. Their shoulders are tensed, every muscle in their body prepared to run, to fight, to defend if need be. ThunderClan may be the ones dealing with the wolves head-on, but WondClan is now in just as much danger. Howlingstar’s warriors are, likely right this very instant, leading a charge across the moorland in an attempt to lure a pack of wolves to their deaths over the edge of the gorge. How the other clan expects their harebrained plot to work out, Gravelsnap has no idea. But they only hope that it does work out—otherwise, there will surely be two clans eradicated instead of just the one.

They cannot help but to overhear Dimmingsun’s words, and their dark ears fall back against their skull. Tightly pressed flat, the most outward sign of the doubt betrays them. Gravelsnap attempts to school their body language into something confident, but ultimately fails as their voice comes out shaky. "It has to work." If it doesn’t, we die. They would give their life for their clan—but against a pack of wolves, would one body being crushed give anyone enough time to run? Any sacrifice to snapping jaws would be in vain, they think. There would be nothing stopping the wolves from bringing destruction to their clan, painting newly-bright flowers crimson with the remains of all of WindClan’s warriors.

Bluepool is not pleased with the way Sunstar had assigned herself and Scorchstreak. She hadn't dared question him, not in front of another clan, another leader, especially when they were meant to be putting on a more unified front, but she had made it clear by the way she had stalked off that she wasn't happy. Scorchstreak was going right to the front lines, right to the snapping jaws of danger and she was expected to cower in camp with the kits? She could create a rift in the sand with all the pacing she's doing, the way she stalks back and forth, head low and tail lashing furiously behind her, a grumble on her lips.

She is only broken from her trance by Dimmingsun calling out to her former apprentice, by the hushed voice of him and Gravelsnap saying ThunderCan's plan has to work. She agrees, if it didn't work the dogs would most definitely be coming for them next and they absolutely could not have that, not while they were still rebuilding from the last tragedy to plague their clan. "It will work." she barks, and the way her golden eyes narrow, the tone in which she speaks, suggests that there is no room for argument. It would because it had to. If anything ever happened to Scorchstreak... She cannot imagine what she would do.

When news had returned to camp that WindClan had allowed ThunderClan to bring wolves onto their territory, the chimera had disappeared for a time to compose himself against the harebrained decision. He had not seen wolves, he only knew of their size and smell, both potent enough to strike fear into the hearts of kittens and warriors alike. Had it been his choice, he'd have let the wolves pick their enemy's bones clean and take the territory once the beasts had grown bored of cat blood. Instead, he was in danger now, and the bristle of discomfort that entailed had not left his fur since the Lead Warriors began guarding camp. The mood was so tense his claws could cut the air if they were so undignified, words shared between friends were short and sharp. Perhaps it would be of some relief that Sootspot was not friends with anyone present. Though he did not smile as he fled his position at the outskirts (the anticipation of invaders into the camp was too grave, even for him), he did his best to keep a bounce to his step and his ears pointed upwards - not to keep them calm, but to keep himself calm.

"Should the fates not be so confident in the plan, then may it assure you that WindClan will not fall to these wolves." He waited a moment, inhaling, exhaling, and mewing once again. "The Tunnelers and the young can avoid their fangs by going underground, should the rest of you have grown plump on Newleaf prey, then, well..." He shook his head as if the remnants of soil that were flown off of it were the personification of bitterness instead. "I am sure we will bury whatever is left of you. Rest assured, WindClan will not go extinct."

Around him, clanmates voice the same thoughts - the same concerns - he'd had since the moment thunderclan had spoken of their plan. In the end, it'd hardly been his decision - neither sunstar nor howlingstar seemed willing to risk windclan lives in their... race, and he'd long since promised not to throw himself headlong into danger if he needn't do so. Still, the fact he's not alone is comforting - " Bluepools right... it w-will work, b-because it has to, " n matter what others think, thunderclan was right - if the wolves truly got a taste for clan cats, nothing would stop them from hunting windclan down once they'd wiped the forest clan off the map. " G-g-pi]good[/i] thing w-we're prepared then, " he doesn't even take offence at sootspots snark - not that he doesn't see the venom that lies beneath it, only that he doesn't care. It's a relief that in his former friends selfishness, at least he seems willing to herd the kits to safety. Honestly that's all peri could ask - if worst comes to worst, he'd gladly lay down his life to defend the small bodies huddled up inside the nursery.
