Dayfern

Status: Watching, Cold

In a quiet corner of camp, sequestered under an old fern rests a small cat. The littlest of warriors, feet curled under her to keep the chill away. This cat, Dayfern does not move very much at all. The only movement to be seen if one looks closely enough is the occasional twitch of her tail tip and signs of her breathing. She has sat motionless for so long that a layer of snow is slowly building up along her back and head. She stares unblinkingly out at the main camp, watching her fellow clan mates weave to and fro amidst their daily activities. She likes to do this sometimes, when things are calm. Just watching. Observing the goings on of clan life.

She shivers while sitting beneath the fern. It's been getting colder as the day has progressed. The snow on her back probably isn't helping matters. She may have long fur but that doesn't mean she was exactly built for leaf-bare. She slowly blinks and continues watching. If someone were to get close they may just pick up on the steady purr she's producing in an effort to stay warm.

  • OOC: Note, Idk when this takes place. I Do not know what the state of the weather is right now, But this is when there's still a thick layer of snow on the ground + snowing so idk if that puts it during the blizzard or after. the chill that sweeps over thunderclan lingers. it clings to leafhusk's pelt, causing her to feel lazy. her short-lived time recovering from whitecough reminded her of the selfish enjoyment of lounging about. if she happened to catch another cold this leafbare, she wouldn't complain… but don't let her clanmates hear that.

she doesn't notice the young warrior, blanketed by the snow and shivering. leafhusk squints over the falling snow, finally noticing dayfern's dappled coat. "are you trying to catch whitecough?" she scoffs, inching closer to stare at the snow clinging to her legs.

"don't stand in the corner of camp silent like that… it's creepy, you blend in. go warm up in the warrior's den."

Stormywing had been stretching near the edge of camp, shaking the stiffness out of her limbs after a morning spent patrolling in the snow. The cold had settled deep into her bones, and now she's quite ready to dive into the warrior's den to warm up. But as she shakes her pelt, she catches sight of Dayfern, huddled beneath a fern with snow piling on her back. The sight makes her pause, one ear flicking curiously as a brow quirks up. What in StarClan's name is she doing?

Before she can investigate, Leafhusk's sharp voice carries through the air. The tabby's golden eyes narrow slightly as she watches the lead warrior approach. Creepy? Really? She snorts softly. Leafhusk always says the funniest things. Chuckling, she trots over, her thick tail trailing through the snow behind her. She glances between the two she-cats, her gaze lingering on Dayfern's snow-dusted form before fixing Leafhusk with a lighthearted smirk. "Whitecough? Funny, I thought ThunderClan warriors were tougher than that." Her tone is teasing, making it clear she's just joking around.

Without waiting for permission, Stormywing nudges the small cat with a paw. "Come on, Dayfern. Let's move before we both turn into ice cats." She steps back and gives a mock shiver, puffing out her short fur dramatically. Why anyone would want to lay out here when the warrior's den is way cozier is beyond her. Maybe she wants the sunshine, who knows? But moss has always been her preference. Eyes twinkling with playfulness, she adds, "Unless, of course, you want to sit here until Leafhusk calls you creepy again." She winks at the lead warrior, clearly unbothered by her earlier comment.

The snow is cold. She doesn't like it, but it's nothing she hasn't dealt with before. It's no colder to sit in camp, watching the ongoings around her, than it ever was to shiver in the root-dens and hovels that Redflower used to sequester them in.

(Used to. Not anymore.)

She sits quietly and alone until a nearby conversation kicks at her ears. Two warriors she barely knows set about scolding a third for being creepy. It's creepy to sit alone in camp and stare. They don't like creepy...

Alarmed, Scarkit peels away from her own little camp-corner, leaving tiny pawprints in the snow as she scurries closer to Dayfern and her entourage. "That doesn't make sense," she meows to Stormywing unhelpfully. Confused in the way of little kittens without a sense of humor. "You can get sick even if you're a ThunderClanner...right?" Now she's not really sure. She wishes her mother were here to tell her what to believe.

Palefire couldn't say she related to Dayfern's love of observing the clan. If she had enough downtime to sit and watch her clanmates milling about, that certainly wouldn't have been her first choice for entertainment. It probably wouldn't even have been her last. But to each their own, she supposed.

A grin quirked at the corners of her mouth as she wandered over to the little group, forcing back a a chuckle at Leafhusk's chiding remarks and trying to cover with a hasty cough. "You certainly have mastered the art of staying very.... still," she mused lightly as she stepped up beside Stormywing. "Are you okay though? You look cold." Wouldn't she rather keep doing..... whatever she was doing from inside the warmth of her den?

Her oceanic gaze fell as Scarkit appeared beside them, her ebony pelt a stark contrast to the frosty white floor of the camp clearing. Warm yellow eyes that she still thought felt so familiar.... The young warrior hardly noticed the kitten was speaking; her eyes subconsciously narrowed upon the child as she questioned Stormywing about the meaning of her little quip.

Palefire's ears fell back against her skull as she internally chastised herself for being paranoid. A soft smile lit the warrior's features as she flicked her tail against Scarkit's flank in welcome. "She didn't mean it seriously," the molly explained gently. "It was only a joke, and you definitely can get sick even if you're a Thunderclanner. That's why it's especially important that you don't stay out too long in bad weather, like Dayfern here is doing right now." She cast a pointed look to her dappled denmate. "We need all of our warriors to stay strong right now."
