To someone like Dovekit, the recent hostility that ran thick through the air was noticed late. Of course they knew that something was happening - it was hard not to when one day things seemed fine and the next cats seemed to constantly be upset at each other - but they had just thought that it was due to some cats within the clan going across the SkyClan border to hunt there. It seemed to go on longer than Dovekit thought was proper for this and so it had prompted the young ThunderClanner to try and pay more attention, and what they heard was something that caused a frown to etch itself carefully onto their face.
Kittypet was slung around, a type of cat that they knew of as it was something commonly told about, it was something that was mentioned when there was talk about SkyClan and so Dovekit had at least a grasp of what kittypets were but they didn't understand why it was being talked about now. No one in ThunderClan was a kittypet, not to their knowledge, and so instead of dwelling on the issue or bothering their mother about it as she had her paws full with keeping an eye on the other kits (Dovekit wasn't one that needed to be watched after all, they'd never done anything to warrant having to be watched that was for sure) so they went off to bother other kin instead.
"Um... Howlingstar?" Small squeak would call for great-grandmother, ears pricked as eyes looking oh-so curiously up towards her. "What's happening? Why's everyone so upset?" They'd wait a few heartbeats before words tumbled out once more, paws shuffling in nervousness for just a moment before they froze. "Is it bad to be a kittypet, cats are upset at them and I know we don't have any here so why are they upset?" Though it wasn't spoken Dovekit was practically pleading with Howlingstar to tell them, and though she'd never pushed away the questions from the kit before they couldn't help but hope that now would not be the first time.
