pafp I'M AFRAID FOR YOUR SOUL -- strange noises

Generally, the night sky is a stranger to Finchkit, something she only sees in passing, though tonight she cannot help but think blearily of it as she lies there, caught between dreams and wakefulness. What it was that had woken her up, she's not sure; certainly not a troublesome littermate, since she's never been the type to wake at such prodding, and a half-hearted check confirms that everybody is sleeping soundly, probably. Nobody's gotten up, at least, and that's basically the same thing in her mind. For reasons unbeknownst to her, sleep evades her like a tricky mossball, crumbling to pieces at her touch, and just as she's repositioning herself, hoping a more comfy spot will lull her quickly back to her dreams, something catches at the edge of her consciousness, and minute though it is she's quick to blink back to mostly awake. Sounds in the night, as uncommon as she hears them, don't quite sound like this, even if she's not yet sure what this is - it had been so distant, and she'd been so tired, the noise had slipped away before she could properly quantify it.

Oh, and there it is again! Ears perked and eyes staring blankly into the darkness, she listens carefully, trying to put a name to the noises, and frustratingly enough, they're just faint enough to quantify as noise without any comprehension. It's probably just somebody returning from a late night hunt, Finchkit reasons with herself, but already her tail-tip is twitching eagerly at the idea of unraveling such a mystery. Another, more scrutinizing glance is spared to her family, and once she's convinced that Brightshine isn't ready to pull her back to bed the instant she makes a move, Finchkit is off, sneaking ever-so-carefully out of the nest and then out of the nursery, stepping out into the chilly night air. It's enough to set her alight with shivers immediately, though that pales in comparison to the sounds she can now hear almost-clearly. They're coming from outside of camp, she realizes (probably why it was so hard to hear from within the walls of the nursery), and though she still can't make out words, they sound...sad, maybe.

The mystery is hardly solved now, though - just because she knows where the noises are coming from doesn't mean she knows really anything at all about what they are, or what they mean. Maybe, with no warriors around to keep a watchful eye on her and turn her away from the exit, citing rogues and danger...

For now, Finchkit settles for creeping around the edge of camp, tilting her head this way and that to try and get a feel for which direction the noises are coming from - not that it means anything to her, having never been out there, but it at least feels like she's doing something useful. So honed in on the sound, she hardly notices when she's no longer alone, and as she turns her head to get a better angle (and she'll swear by it, that turning your head this way and that really does help!) Finchkit nearly jumps out of her skin at the sight of another cat. By StarClan's grace, she doesn't yet out a startled scream, though it's a near thing; wide eyes hardly adjusted to the dark have to take a moment, but once she recognizes the form of @rivekit the momentary fear of being caught drains away. "Rivekit! You scared me! I didn't even know you were there!" She almost forgets herself, voice barely hushed as adrenaline still pumps through her veins, but the mysterious whispers from outside the walls ground her.

"You hear it too, right? Somethin' out there making funny sounds?" It's hardly more than a formality, she thinks; why else would the other kit be out and about right now if she, too, weren't also investigating. Any ill-will she may still harbor against Rivekit for upsetting Pink-kit is quickly tucked away for later as a thought blossoms into her mind, gleaming eyes and a cheeky grin taking over her features. "I think we should - should, uh, look for it. We should find out who it is." Brash as Rivekit may be at times, the other kitten seems more up for adventure than many of her siblings do at times, and so with the offer comes the expectation that she'll actually be up for it. "You wanna know what it is too, right?" How could she not be burning with curiosity, not be filled to the brim with excitement at this opportunity like Finchkit is?
  • OOC: Set before the rogue invasion ofc ^^ Prompt: Strange whispers and weeping noises can be faintly heard inside the camp at night… It seems to be coming from the graveyard…? Is your character frightened? Do they feel the need to investigate or would they rather remain hidden in the grass?
