-ˋˏ ༻ ❆༺ ˎˊ- Going out into camp had seemed like a nightmare in the beginning, where all Pinepaw could manage to do was curl up in her temporary nest and hide from her world, one that was no longer accepting of her. The name Pinepaw was no longer associated with the apprentices pride or skill; it was the name of scandal and pity.

Still, eventually Pinepaw would have to rejoin RiverClan, even if the thought of making eye contact with another clanmate made the tortoiseshell want to spit.

It wasn't until the apprentice was struck with the realization that the longer she hid herself away, the further she strayed from who she was. The more talk that could circulate. Her time for hiding was over, and she'd exit from the medicine den with her head held high.

While a secure dressing still hid most of her injury away from prying eyes, the gouges of flesh-pink that trickled from under the bandages was glaringly obvious.

Pinepaw had found a group of impressionable clanmates easily enough, gravitated by the talk of how they had missed out on the battle of Sunningrocks. Pinepaw's integration was seamless, despite the unease from the cat next to her. "I bet it was the bloodiest battle this forest has ever seen." The apprentice hums, gathering her clanmates eyes one by one. "You know how I got this wound?" A pause, uncertainty befalling the small group, who most certainly all heard something slightly different from the other. "The leaders daughter attacked me while I was fighting off another, so I sunk my teeth into her throat." Pinepaw rolls her shoulders back, where Squirrelpaws claw marks begins to burn, speaking of it as if the memory was nothing. "If she lived, it was by a thread." Flamestar had ripped a life from their leader, in this story; it was Pinepaw's act of vengeance that took the limelight.

she had not known.

this is not news ; the clan had been unaware as a whole, noses turned firmly away from iciclefang in suspicion due to her hypocritical tongue. not until lichenstar had seen it fit to reveal it from atop river rock, a place of sanctity they had taken to sneer their displeasure upon a family already torn. there was no empathy in the way she had announced to the clan cragpaw, crabpaw and riverpaw's heritage ; defiled their names to let the cats they'd grown with spat their displeasure for all to see. it had been an awful, pointed parade of unjust power that had only soured once pure thoughts of her own mother and mentor. she can only be disappointed.

guilt pulses in her with each look she casts upon pinepaw's tattered face, lying pale and bruised beneath layers of healing herbs, wrought in her sickbed to listen to the jury outside moonbeam's den.

still, pinepaw had not tucked her tail and ventured to thunderclan in wake of this revelation. she had not disappeared into the night, squirreled away beneath flamestar's rule with her name changed and brothers forgotten. iciclefang, for all her faults, had raised a litter of riverclanners . . tried and true, unbeknownst to their sire across the water. they trained, fought and lived beneath the rivers rule — received punishment for it only. her mother and litter lived in scorn at the outskirts of camp, now . . born riverclanners who had fought a good fight, fought for their rocks and won.

shellpaw could not even say the same for herself.

leadbare brought cold, and with cold came sickness. she'd spent that time in the medicine den for what seems like longer than her training had ever gone. she does not know what happened ; only stories, only vitriol met her wandering ears. now, though . . pinepaw struts from the same den she'd been confined it with the swagger of a lead warrior herself. rosen eyes catch stubbornly, vole forgotten between her paws as she launches into a story that shellpaw laces in visions of glory. she thinks of pristine teeth sinking into the thick neck of a thunderclanner, blood pooling at the corners of ivory - streaked muzzle . .

" wow. " she mews softly, reverentially, gazing upon her with eyes rimmed wide in awe. " if she, she lived, i bet she doesn't — doesn't wear her scars near as good as you do. you look like . . you look like a warrior already. " a real one. she'd always been so fearless . . she never thought it would cost her, but the tatters of red - pink skin seem to fit her more than not. swallowing hard against the murmurs of doubt around her, the girl adds a soft, " you're so brave. " moreso than shellpaw had ever been.

she is pallid ; platinum splotched with ribbons of dovey lilac curls, wisped ends like memories of a distant shore and plush enough to conceal the juts of malnutrition beneath. tufted elderdown fur conceals a body worn fragile by tumultuous youth, too thin in some places and round with stubborn baby fat in others. her face is short - muzzled, framed half mast by eyes coined rheumy, rosen amber. the anemic cold pink - purple at tender paws and nose tell a lifetime of sickness, further made obvious by the feathering weakness in half - whispered tones.
CHRONICALLY ILL ; prone to wheezing and coughing, nose at a constant drip from longterm illness - induced nasal polyps. not contagious.
