private I'M WORKING LATE // pop quiz!

Skyclaw isn't sure why he's delegated this, but he's prompted to take a group of apprentices out to the sandy hollow and inspect their training. Maybe it's so their mentors finally have a break from their roughhousing - or maybe it's a punishment, still, for being so sharp and sour himself. Regardless the tom takes it in stride, guiding the youth and only half-listening to their idle chatter. They're kids. They'll talk about their interpersonal dramas as if it's the end of the world...! It's of no concern to him. At least - until he hears one mutter something about kittypets.

He doesn't hear the full conversation, but it does spark worry in his chest. Have their mentors been too lenient on them? Do they fantasize about the soft life beyond the borders? Skyclaw grimaces, and once they arrive on the training ground, he spins on his paws.

"Great - now that we're out here, we'll have plenty of quiet to think. I'll just be quizzing you on what you know..." He pauses. Should he be coy? Ask of their borders, first, which Clans hunt rabbits and which hunger for frogs? Who swims? No, no. Even the kits can giggle and laugh about those inquiries. These apprentices are older, heartier... some have already made transgressions against the code, have opinions against the ways others live.

"We'll start easy," he says, and his glower doesn't brighten. He does not act unkind, but he's far from friendly either. He's a teacher in the moment, not a friend. "Which Clan houses kittypet warriors?" He pauses, and when that is answered, he nods just so long it is correct. "Good. It is a staple of SkyClan culture to allow pets to learn the ways of Clan-cats. Next question..." Skyclaw clicks his tongue, "Do kittypets deserve the chance to learn?"

Sproutpaw didn't exactly like the idea of going out with the other apprentices, having to listen to yet another warrior he didn't exactly trust to try and assess their skills - especially not one so young. Compared so many of the other cats in the clan Skyclaw might as well have been an apprentice himself, though Sproutpaw was a dutiful apprentice, he listened to what he was told even if he didn't like it so had followed after the kittypet-adjecent, boredom clearly marked on his face by the time they'd reached the sandy hollow.

His first question was met with a scoff of annoyance, claws unsheathing into the ground for just a moment before he looked in the warrior's direction as another apprentice answered him. He was treating them like kits, asking simple questions about which clan was which and for a moment he believed this was all it was going to be and he'd be better of simply napping than answering any questions that the other should ask of them. Then the big question hits and without pause Sproutpaw would answer, a simple "No." leaving his lips as he glared at the other, a dare, a challenge to tell him he was wrong as he expected the son of Blazestar to do.

It didn't matter in this moment that time and time again Skyclaw had shown his distaste for SkyClan, Sproutpaw expected him to speak the lie that kittypets deserved a chance, that kittypets should be allowed to train amongst the clans when in Sproutpaw's reality they were simply cats that came to the clans looking for fun because they were bored, unwilling and unable to follow the code properly who would run back to their twolegs the second things got too rough. He'd already seen it begin to flourish within his own mentor after all.

ˏˋ*⁀➷ Skyclaw isn't the worst cat to be dragged out for training with, Fallowpaw supposes. He's got that same violent spark in him that she does, that same bitterness. He doesn't belong here, and there's something comforting in the thought. It trails along quietly, keeping carefully apart from the inane gossip of the other cats.

The quiz is sprung upon them with little fanfare. He starts simple, a question meant for kits. She lets out a disappointed huff; most of the apprentices here are older, after all. Does he think so little of them? "Uh, SkyClan," it responds with no small degree of irritation. Its tail flicks impatiently. If all he brought them out here for was a basic test on clan knowledge, maybe it was wrong to think him different. A simple nod is offered to her response, and little else.

The second question catches her off-guard. "...What?" she mumbles, face scrunching up in confusion. "But... aren't you...?" She trails off, waving a tufted paw at Skyclaw. He was given a chance to learn, wasn't he? Though, she supposes he'd never been a kittypet himself. Her mentor Stormywing, too... It thinks about the comments the other apprentices have been making of her, and its pelt begins to prickle. Do kittpets deserve a chance to learn? She'd never really thought about it before.

...Do rogues?

Suddenly, she begins to feel a lot less comfortable alone in this clearing. She is quiet and tense as she waits for some kind of explanation.
