Foxtail feels more shaky than usual. He feels on edge, as his heart will not calm down. The tom hasn't been able to relax since the incident... he hasn't been able to sleep. Sunpaw didn't say a word to him when he sent her off to the elders den... and by the burning look in her eyes, he suspects she enjoys their company far more than his. Owlpaw won't even as much look at him. The tension in the air is hot, and he can't walk through camp without hearing murmuring voices of clanmates. Was it wrong to separate them? Was I too harsh? The tom keeps thinking, as he tries to ignore his surroundings.

His paws shake as he approaches Lichenstar's den, and the tom pokes his head in. "...Lichenstar? C-Can I speak with you?"

Once she gives him a nod, the lead warrior would pad into the secluded den. Almost immediately, the gossiping voices from outside seem to dim, and Foxtail's gaze locks onto hers. "L-Lichenstar, I.. I need to know," Foxtail starts with a trembling mew. That outburst interrupted everyone's evening— it was the first night back in camp, after a tiring day of work. He never expected him approaching Sunpaw about something that had been.... eating at him to turn into such a mess. "...D-Did I do the r-right thing back there?" He asks her, his tail low to the ground with uncertainty. "I-I... I fear I just ruined whatever relationship I h-had with h-her." And that I'm failing you.

  • If she'd been more emotionally in tune with herself, she might've been able to more easily identify the sense of familiarity in that night. With voices shrilled by frustration, a butting of heads between mentor and apprentice, the panicked fluttering in a chest wounded by one too young to be able to inflict such damage. It stung to have suffered it... but time healed all wounds. And the dead couldn't still argue (usually... Lichenstar was not so fortunate to avoid Brookstorm's wrath).

Foxtail's timid call is answered with an earnest acceptance, trying to lick down an unruly tuft of fur for the sake of appearances. He walks towards her like a deer on tilts, practically ready to fall over from the trembling of his own heart, the war of his own mind- she frowns, noticeably, a concern gnawing in her belly immediately. Perhaps she'd been wrong to assume the end of Pebbletail's training might've been enough time to have him serve as a good infulence on Sunpaw to ease Foxtail's luck with her training... Was he not ready to confront someone so headstrong? It had been her hope to light a fire under his paws, to force him to grow and find confidence but...

"The right thing...?" Stars... if she knew what the right way to do any of this was, she would just mentor every apprentice herself... He tacks on concern for the relationship itself and the lynx point is forced to sigh. "Foxtail... these are apprentices.... They find something... new to hate... every three sunrises." At least, that was her experience. Though her own children were far less moody, their own frustrations and petty bickerings did exist regardless.

"She is upset... because she has... not encountered.... a wall before." It's an educated guess... Otterbite was much the same. Coyotecreek had been far too lenient and now they had a tom who grew irate when confronted with rejection or orders he didn't care to hear. "You did... fine."

Her ears twitch, realizing that maybe he feels like the bad guy for losing his temper at all. "Do you think... I was cruel?" Because if her extended punishment seemed malicious then that was something else to address... He needed to understand that something as stupid as a 'time out' from friends was not evil nor outlandish. Leaders before her had far less tolerance for insubordination... she feels her pelt grow hot with frustration, reminded of a time she'd been subjected to such punishments as being camp bound. Not even adults were exempt.
