She's alone this time. No Dawnglare to keep her company, the cinnamon tom and his apprentice long returned to SkyClan by now. Unfortunately, this means she isn't as confident with her wayfinding. Orangestar has to double back on herself a couple of times, nose working overtime to decipher any herb-heavy scents leading deeper into Highstones, turned around and trapped in the dark.
In the end, it's moonhigh when Orangestar reaches the Moonstone. Her paws tremble, relief finally allowing her pelt to lie flat against her spine. To be so deep in the mountain with no guide is unnerving, reminiscent of the landslide that had trapped them in the tunnels of the Journey. For the first time in moons, Orangestar's heart aches faintly at the thought of Needledrift, but she is soon distracted once more by the sight of the faintly glimmering crystal before her.
"If you're listening," Orangestar grouses under her breath, "make the bird-brained tunnel less confusing the next time you choose a sacred rock."
SkyClan's leader shakes out her long pelt, tucks her paws beneath her, and gingerly presses her nose to the stone.
