private INFINITE SPEED [ Warrior Assessment ]

SOOTSTAR
Mousepaw’s courage was admirable, but being so close in becoming a warrior she’d hate to see his warrior name delayed. No one knew when the journeying cats would be back… and besides when it came to the other clans she’d much rather send Mousepaw with the authority of a warrior rather that of an apprentice. It’d give him more grounds to hold his own against other clan’s warriors who may try to leg up him for their superior rank.

Sootstar and Bluepaw lead Mousepaw and his moor runner mentor out into the tunnels, from an above ground view they likely roamed around the sun-warmed pool.

Once arriving at the scene Sootstar turns and looks to the two apprentices. ”Mousepaw, it is time to assess you. In normal circumstances you would’ve been tested a moon from now, but your clan needs your youthful strength for the journey ahead. With any luck you will go not as an apprentice, but a full warrior of WindClan.” The pressure was on, WindClan was counting on him to prove himself.

”A tunneler needs to know how to track his prey. Most of what you will hunt is quick on it’s feet and clever, prove to me you know how to catch fleeing prey.” She looks to Bluepaw, she should prove to be quick and certainly clever enough to make this a challenge. ”Bluepaw will be given a few heartbeats to take off. On my word you will give chase and give your all to catch her, Mousepaw. Bluepaw, I expect you to not only use speed but your cleverness to your advantage.”

She’s eager to see the results of this test. It came natural that she wanted to see Bluepaw succeed in tricking her opponent, but in this rare instance Mousepaw’s success would please her more. ”Bluepaw, when you’re ready take off and we will begin.”

When he had been told that day that he and his mentor would be going out with Sootstar and Bluepaw, Mousepaw had quickly gotten himself up and head towards the entrance of the camp. It wasn't often he found himself going into the territory with so few cats - and especially not just Sootstar and her kin - so he had promised silently that he'd prove his worth to the WindClan leader today as they head out towards the tunnels. When they stopped and Sootstar spoke of an assessment today however, it caused the apprentice a moment of pause. He hadn't realized that he would be doing the assessment so early, but despite the surprise a sense of pride swelled through his chest. Now he had a proper chance to prove his worth and become a proper warrior a moon early in his training - the opportunity would not be taken lightly.

He had caught rabbit before, and though he knew cats to be both quicker and smarter than the rabbit and hare they chased down tunnels almost daily in the clan, he was sure he would pass the assessment today - he had to. A deep breath was taken before Mousepaw turned to where they were to begin, readying himself to give chase the second he was told to do so.

There was something prestigious in being tasked with aiding Mousepaw in earning his warrior name. She likes the young tortoiseshell well enough, and now that he’s being whisked away to the mountains, Bluepaw supposes now it as good a time to win StarClan’s favor as any. She appraises him, listening to her mother and mentor’s instructions with a tilted head. “Yes, Sootstar.” She rises gracefully to snow-and-sapphire paws, approaching her tunnelmate with a bowed head. Her curtsy and follow-up are formal: “Best of luck, Mousepaw.

With that, Bluepaw launches herself down the tunnel that narrows before them, swallowed up in darkness. Mousepaw is well-versed here, but she is too, now. Her whiskers tell her there’s a fork ahead of her, and the breeze brushing the wisps of fur on her cheeks tell her she’s soon to make an ascent. The walls grow closer, enough to make her feel she’s scraping through them, and a much younger version of herself might have begun to panic.

She trusts her instincts and the senses she now relies on—once her paws begin to scale upward, she climbs rapidly. Sunlight spills through microscopic holes in the roof shored above her. She throws a glance behind her to see if Mousepaw has begun to catch up—and if she were to see him, she would whirl about to face him.

At the last second, she takes her second turn, the tip of her fluffy tail just ghosting into the tunnel opening left beside them.
