Its a new world || Icicle

Rabbitnose's hunting prowess was only slightly dulled in the winter, but it wasn't enough to spare any prey lingering about when he was around. With his soft, blue dappled pelt, he was able to blend into the snow and frigid foliage and catch prey by surprise. His paws were numb from the cold, but he wasn't ready to head home just yet. He wanted to at least catch something to bring home, but it seemed the forest was unwilling to grant his wishes this day. Still, he crept along the forest floor just in case he found something on his way back.

And he did! It wasn't prey though, no. It was a large icicle hanging from a rock, one of the larger ones he's seen.

Veering off course to admire it, he watches as the light dances on its surface. Ice was such a dangerous thing, yet it was so beautiful when it wasn't a threat. The ice on the trees, frost on the grass, even when the river gets frozen. It's such a beautiful part of nature that he respects and admires. Not everyone can agree of course. Rabbitnose knows that ice and snow are signs of empty bellies and cold nights to come, yet even still.

He still finds a way to admire nature's beauty.

And as Rabbitnose does... He leans forward and gives the icicle a curious lick, only to find that his tongue has frozen to it.

"Ah..."

He tugs. He is still stuck.

This was not what he planned for. He keeps trying to tug his tongue free, but it sure is stuck there. How will he free himself without ripping his tongue off... Hm.

Much like Rabbitnose, Flamewhisker had also set out to hunt today. Without an apprentice to train, she found herself out in the forest during what little free time she had. During leaf bare, it was notably more difficult to blend in with her surroundings than it was during green leaf or leaf fall. Deep orange didn't exactly camouflage with snow like it did with some of her lighter pelted clanmates. Her hunt had been unsuccessful, spare for the close call she had with a squirrel. It had outsmarted her, running into the heard of deer for safety before swiftly climbing a tree. After what happened to Sandthorn, she felt uneasy being anywhere near those creatures. The sooner they left the forest, the better. Prey was already hard enough to catch right now...they didn't need a bunch of deer trampling and scaring everything away.

As she padded back to the camp, she spotted a familiar pelt near a rock. She tilted her head curiously after she realized it was Rabbitnose. "You alright over there?" she called out, stopping along the trail. Part of her wondered if he was just looking at the rock...Sunfreckle's mate was often amused by little things. But when he didn't turn to respond, concern started to prickle in her belly. 'Ah...'

The tabby quickly trotted over to his side, and as she spotted the icicle that was stuck to his tongue her eyes widened in surprise. "What did you do?" she breathed, shaking her head in disbelief. She couldn't say she was too surprised though...hadn't he eaten a rock before? She lifted a paw, and pressed it against the ice to see if it would budge any. "Hold still...I think I can break it away from the rock. Then we can go see Gentlestorm...maybe he will know how to get it off."

Short of trying to pull his face away, she couldn't think of another solution. Hopefully their Medicine Cat had a better idea...Sunfreckle would have her pelt if she accidentally ripped his tongue off. Flamewhisker lifted her other front paw onto the icicle, and attempted to push on it to hopefully break it away from the rock.

the damn deer were ruining her routine. leafhusk can handle the harshness of leafbare, but she isn’t equipped to deal with massive deer trotting around like they own the forest. it’s a constant irritation having to watch her back whenever she goes out to hunt, not to mention the walk of shame of coming back from a hunt empty-pawed. which is a normal occurrence this season, but it stings more when you know it’s because the deer are scaring everything away. leafhusk used to enjoy watching them, a lifetime ago, but now, she was irritated and exhausted of them.

when she slips out of camp, her exceptions are exceedingly low. if prey decides to show up then fine, or if they’ve all decided to scurry away from their new rulers than that’s fine too. whatever. she doesn’t get very far, ears instead swiveling at the sound of flamewhisker’s voice. to make sure everything’s okay, her pawsteps carry her, brushing past the undergrowth.

it’s not what she expected, to say the least. her eyes widen, jaw dropping in shock but promptly shutting when she feels a laugh begin to bubble. any sort of irritation she felt from the deer washed away, causing her to lose the battle.

a laugh slips from her mouth, shoulders beginning to shake as it gains volume. "ahaha… ahahaha! sorry— sorry—" she sputters out, a paw slapping over her mouth, but the damage’s been done. her head jerks to the side, staring down at the ground to look away to keep herself in control.

His presence was announced in a high gasp of both horror and young outrage.
"That ain't fair, Sunfreckle said I wasn't allowed to lick those. Why can you do it?" Plodding forward to his harebrained father and his current struggle the blue apprentice gave a huff of displeasure as he pouted, pausing to stand alongside Leafhusk as she chuckled and caught herself before looking away. He didn't so much as flick an ear at that, it wasn't funny because it was just so unfair to him he couldn't stand it. He wanted to do so many things and got told 'no Pigeonpaw' or 'you can't eat that Pigeonpaw' or 'use your inside voice Pigeonpaw' and here was Rabbitnose abusing his age and warrior privelege to just do whatever he wanted. As he watched Flamewhisker make an attempt to dislodge the frozen spear it became slowly apparent exactly why his red tabby parent had warned him off of doing similar.
"...that's stuck real good isn't it?" He asked, his ears hidden behind long clumps of fur averted down before he shook his pelt out and glanced to the medicine cat den hesitantly, "I'll go get him uh-preemptively, just in case!"
The young tom turned and began to briskly trot his way over to the den, in a hurry but not wanting to outright run and look like he was in a hurry or anything; being frantic probably didn't look that cool.

He's gathered an audience and where a normal cat would be embarrassed, Rabbitnose is not. He laughs along with them, not embarrassed one bit. When Flamewhisker knocks the icicle loose, Rabbitnose takes the icicle into his mouth and steps back with it. He looks at Pigeonpaw and smiles, setting the icicle down and having to talk with his tongue out.

"Thunfreckle Is uthually right, I thust have terrible impulse contwol."

An understatement. It's a wonder Rabbitnose is still alive. Sunfreckle is going to smack him upside the head real good when he hears of this. He wants to say more to Pigeonpaw, like they can go out and look for mushrooms together and lick things that are SAFE, but talking with an icicle stuck to your tongue is difficult. AND he can't risk anyone overhearing because they'll tell Sunfreckle and then he'll get in more trouble. Perhaps he'll take Pigeonpaw out another time, there's still bugs to be found in leafbare.

He just hopes Gentlestorm can get the icicle off. It shouldn't be too hard, its just ice...It just has to melt! He'll just have to suffer looking funny as he carries an icicle in his mouth to the medicine den.

"Oh, that's-" Tybalt started, trying and failing to suppress a laugh as he looked at Rabbitnose sitting with the icicle stuck to his tongue. "That's unfortunate." What had Rabbitnose gone and done that for? Even kits knew their tongues would stick to ice. "Eating something warm might melt it. Or I guess we could just pull it off. At least if it melts in your mouth you'll stay hydrated."

'CAUSE SOMEWHERE DOWN THE BANK"He what?" Gentlestorm says with bushy eyebrows furrowing and a frown present on his maw as he tries not to let out a tired sigh when Pigeonpaw goes to retrieve him to assist with Rabbitnose's predicament. He cares deeply for Sunfreckle, the red tom being his friend, and his family but he oftentimes wonders if there's anything in the head of that mate of his and snowy paws walk on the snow with ease. Gentlestorm easily blending with his surroundings now that it was leaf-bare, a season that he found no beauty in, and continued his walk until he heard the laughter of his clanmates does he near with both of his ears pricked forward. He finds Flamewhisker, Leafhusk, Stagstrike, and Rabbitnose in all of his glory with the icicle stuck to his tongue. Gentlestorm cannot find himself chuckling at this instead he feels as if he has aged by several moons when an exhausted sigh escapes his slightly parted jaws. The snow striken medicine cat having to resist the urge to place a paw against his helm and look away from the sight itself, he shakes his head instead trying his best to offer a faint smile in the direction of Rabbitnose "Future suggestion—" He begins to say as he draws closer to see what he was dealing with exactly and taps a single claw to the icicle, "Let's avoid licking icicles, alright?"

A soft hum leaving him tilting his helm to the side trying to think of a way to remove the icicle without hurting Rabbitnose while doing so and he lowers himself for a close inspection before pushing himself back onto all fours, he gives a curt nod. "To the warriors den with you. It's best to be in a warm place and it'll melt away soon enough on its own... Removing it by force would only hurt your tongue," Gentlestorm says finally.
