What was so entertaining about the swishing of a tail? It's back and forth movements were locked on by bright green eyes, the orange and chocolate form crouched low in the safety of shadows by the nursery.

A paw stepped forward, the light hitting her white toes, her hind wiggling slightly. It flicked again, and she brought it back. Timing had to be perfect, her mother always told her.

The bicoloured head would turn, and ears swiveled. But when the focus was away, she would leap, tiny teeth grasping around the tail and body curling around her new "catch".

Giggling would erupt from tiny lungs, as she released the tail.

Hawthornpaw liked to think of herself as a slightly higher being. She had the remarks and the tongue to match it, and she looked so dashing. A grin was settled on her face as she toyed with some old skull that was in someone else's nest. It was nice, and she liked it, so now it was hers. Sitting in the sun with her head held high and eyes closed, she was practically unaware of the kit creeping up behind her.

But Tigerkit leapt at Hawthornpaw, causing the apprentice to jump. As soon as Tigerkit giggled, a growl left Hawthornpaw, and she whipped around, teeth leaning down to snap just inches from Tigerkit's face. "Didn't your mom teach you better then to just leap at people?" Hawthorn drew her face away, a tiny little smirk on her face. Oh, she had heard. But it was information that she could use against Tigerkit. She'd work that in all the ways she could.

She seemed to roll with laughter as the apprentice jumped nearly out of her pelt, but the snap at tigerkits face left her tilting her head and craning herself backwards in a twisted contortion. A confusing amount of emotions screamed at her, before taking a paw and bapping it on the apprentices maw.

Her retort made Tiger think, and she shook her head. "No, momma said it was fine! She would always let me play with her tail!" she said grinning. Her head lifted a little, and pointed with a paw. "What's that thing?" she asked, her green eyes curious.

Hawthorn's eye rolled as she pulled herself back, shaking out her fur. The black and white cat exhaled hotly through her recently-bopped nose. Hawthornpaw's head tilted, and she came around Tigerkit, circling the kit for a moment. "Your momma is a liar. It's rude." Hawthorn responded, her voice hard. As the younger pushed her paw forward, pointing, Hawthorn shrugged. "Dunno. Why don't you know? Didn't your mother teach you anything?" Hawthornpaw responded, her ears twitching as a grin spread on her face.

Your momma is a liar.

Something about those words made her narrow white eyebrows, a weird feeling coming from her gut. "She is not a liar! Momma is very smart! I bet you don't even know how to tell a poison berry from a good berry!" she said with a weird huff. She was mocking the apprentice back. Green eyes would match golden eyes(?), as the apprentice circled her like a bird stalking its prey.

"Stop talking about my momma, it's rude." Her voice mocked Hawthornpaws, tilting her head back a little to look up at the larger feline.

"Are you sad? Momma said sad people can be mean sometimes. It is super okay if you're sad." She still seemed unfazed, besides the fact the bi coloured cat called her momma a liar. But she knew sometimes her mom would lash out and say something mean, but she would regret it instantly, and comfort tigerkit.

The pang in her heart told her she missed her mother, but she would hold on strong still. "You don't have to be sad! I can be your friend, if you need one!"
