Ghostpaw found the apprentice den rather new and exciting. So many corners she had never explored! Back in the nursery she had nosed around every crevice, and found plenty of oddities to justify taking another peek the next day. Soon though, she'd grown to expect most of them. The lost mossballs, the sleeping beetles, the stray tufts of fur. The apprentice den was different. It had sleeping beetles and tufts of fur, and sometimes even mossballs. But it also had new oddities dragged in from beyond camp walls. Today Ghostpaw had found the best oddity of all. She leaped back from the dark corner she'd stuck her head into moments ago. Her ghostly eyes flared in the groom, darting after the piece of shadow that had twitched to life. She dove after it; missed. The thing scuttled around her paws and twisted toward the den mouth, making a bid for freedom.

"Budkit!" Ghostpaw crowed as she lunged out of the den. Powerful hind legs shot her from gloom into sunlight in seconds. This time her paws fell over the thing, the critter. I got it!
"Budkit!" she yowled again, her fluffy tail sending plumes of dust overhead as it waved in triumph. She's gonna love this. Ghostpaw found that upon leaving the nursery, she missed Budkit most of all. The young child shared Ghostpaw's curiousity, and on more than one occasion had tried to snack on the apprentice's findings. Ghostpaw found this hilarious. Butterflytuft, Budkit's mother, found it less so. The creature the dark molly had hold of now was a wiggly thing. It did not appreciate being captured, not one bit. It squirmed beneath her paw pads, pushing at her with surprisingly strong, spindly legs. How many does it even have? Ghostpaw wondered, trying to peek at it without letting it go. Definitely more than four. Five, six... More? Budkit has to see this!

Budkit finds she prefers life outside of the nursery every chance she gets. Not due to a lack of coziness of course - she loves the comfy nest she shares with her mother. But with such change in the den (Oddgleam moving in, Snowy moving in, Cormorantkit moving in, Honeysplash moving out, Ghostpaw moving out… others moving out) Budkit finds she’s not fond of change. It’s not her favorite. She’s also not fond of losing out on playtime with the newly made apprentices.

Especially Ghostpaw.

That is why, while sunning outside of the nursery, Budkit is keyed in to the inky apprentice’s calls in mere seconds. The seal point kitten does not pause to consider what her friend may be calling her for. A dust cloud is all that remains of the kit as she sprints towards the unknown. (This is an instance where self preservation is hibernating within her curious mind). “Ghostpaw!” Her friend’s name tumbles from her lips as she nears the apprentice. Ghostpaw is crouched and trying to peek beneath her paws. Gleaming sapphires attempt to do the same. “Whatcha have dere?” Budkit asks excitedly, dropping into a crouch and flicking her kinked tail with intrigue.

Silversmoke had little place lingering near such a playful conversation, but glimpses of an animated darkness beneath the apprentice's paws gave him enough reason to supervise - what if it was a bee? The tom moved closer, lingering on the outskirts, side-eyeing the mystery bug for any signs of wings or a stinger. He swore he saw a spindly leg stick out at one point, grasping for a freedom they would never get to appreciate again. Perhaps not a bee then, perhaps a hornet or a wasp (in his worried mind, he still had to wonder whether they were the same thing or not). The spotted tabby shuffled closer, limbs slightly tensed at the expectation that he'd have to swat some deadly creature away. "Yes... what is it?"

ghostpaw’s yowling across camp stirred her from a peaceful nap. her spindly limbs stretch outwards, and her body rolls around to groggily stand. bloomfur blinks, padding over to see what exactly the young cats were oohing and aahing about. neither of them seemed to be screaming in pain, so that’s good. she stands relaxed in the growing circle, the complete opposite to silversmoke.

"hmm… looks like a bug." she inquires, tail tip curling inwards. the tiny, flailing legs reminded her of when she’d crawl around dark corners of her home. "always tried eating them back home but my mom would yell at me."
