The ThunderClan border is a source of ambivalence to Hawkpaw. On one paw, some of his kin lives there: Howlingstar and Burnstorm are spoken of fondly by Howlfire, and the torbie knows that, in an emergency, he may be able to find help in them. On the other paw, his kin lives there. Their run-ins with Raccoonstripe have told Hawkpaw that not all of his kin are as welcoming as others. Still, it's safer at the mercy of another Clan than at the mercy of the unmet border, and on such a still day Hawkpaw is calm.

Well- he's calm until a rustle sounds nearby. It's just on the ThunderClan side of the border, too large to be a prey animal, and though half-blurred vision Hawkpaw glances in his peripheral to try and locate a good enough tree to scale. Coming up blank, he tenses, crouching, claws unsheathed in case something - or someone - jumped out at him.

"Who- who's there?" He asks sharply, only half expecting a response from the ominous shaking of the leaves on the far side of the border.

Roaringpaw feared to stray from the hunting patrol a bit. With everything going on recently, the exile of three warriors and even more worrying yet the murder of former kittypets, the apprentice was rightfully afraid of what might happen to him outside of camp. He still must hunt for his clan, thought — and surely they wouldn't be so bold to hurt him during a patrol and so close to SkyClan's border.

His bright pelt is obscured by the undergrowth that runs through the vast majority of ThunderClan's territory, though occasionaly a flash of yellow can be seen seeping through the green. His worriedness makes him sloppy, pawsteps not as cautious as they should be. It is not until he hears a voice ringing out that he stops, frozen and nervous. They must be talking to him - he doesn't smell anyone else. And, while it doesn't sound like anyone from his Clan ( exiled or not ), he is still wary.

Bronze eyes swivel around him, eventually setting sights on a brown-ish cat across the border. Roaringpaw breathes a sight of relief, then, knowing he's not in imminent danger. A friendly conversation has never hurt anyone - and his neighbor didn't really sound hostile in his approach. The Thunderclanner first sticks his head out of the thicket, curious as he usually was ( also accentuated by a tilt of his head as he looks at him with wonder ).

He hums to himself and nods his head. Hello! The apprentice greets, finally stepping into full view of the Skyclanner. I'm Roaringpaw.

"Oh. Hi!" Any fear that Hawkpaw had felt is sharply curbed by shock as a ginger-tipped head pops from the undergrowth. His ears twitch back, and then forward curiously as the ThunderClanner - that's what this had to be, a cat on the other side of the border and wholly unsurprised by his presence - tilts his head in a similarly curious gesture. His usual enthusiasm returns as no angry warriors make their appearances, though Hawkpaw's head does swivel around to check before he approaches the scent markers.

"I'm Hawkpaw! Nice to meet you, Roaringpaw." His tail curls at its tip, a friendly wave. His attention draws to the top of the other apprentice's head, nose twitching in a stifled giggle at the sight of greenery sticking awkwardly from flaxen fur. "You've uh- you've got some leaves next to your ear. Have you got it, or did you need a paw?"

Friendly. No sign of being fake about it as if this were a trap ( although Roaringpaw might fail to notice this with a 100% success rate. . . but he chose to believe so ). He takes not of the other's features, driven to his eyes in particular ( as well as the scars running through his face - in comparison, Roaringpaw's own shoulder scar seemed minimal ).

Hawkpaw, he greets, introduces himself with as much camaraderie as the Thunderclanner had. It was nice, to be treated as an equal instead of a burden; the apprentice had nearly forgotten what that felt like.

The next line is nothing short of embarrassing. Hwuh? It takes him a moment to process what had been said, and even after he understands he still looks like a newborn kitten who's just learned how to walk. Oh! Ummm. . . the former kittypet shakes out his fur, seeing a few leaves fly off - but some stubborn ones still cling to him. Have I got 'em all? He asks, nothing short of flustered ( but trying really hard to look nonchalant about it ).
