tl;dr -- leafhusk gets taken by a twoleg. oops
she's lived in the woods for longer than she's been a kittypet. the memories come back every so often, in blips of colors. warm tones encapsulated in objects that don't exist between the trees. hands that pet her on the head when she settles next to someone; and a window showing off a lifestyle she never expected to have. they were stronger once. when she was younger, a newer addition, and her fur didn't tangle ruthlessly at the ends. leafhusk tries to cling onto the old life, but when she looks at herself, there's nothing.
a husk, almost.
her name is carved into the trees. leaves are everywhere, and so is she. the woman could patrol the forest with her eyes closed. so much about her felt thunderclan, but the roots felt tangled… rotting.
leafhusk thinks about bigfang, how quick he was to turn the life away before the bodies turned cold. she wasn't surprised to see the kittypet decide that it wasn't worth it, the bloodshed, the prickling fear of survival digging into ribs. it's a different kind if alienation when you join as an adult, she thinks. the lead warrior never felt any envy for the ones who decided to leave. her duties were here, in thunderclan. perhaps in another life where howlingstar didn't promote her, she would've left, too.
so much of her time here, alive, spent watching others move on— find love, have kits, raise them into real thunderclanners. seasons change, their camp becomes a war ground, leafhusk is still a housecat. most of it doesn't bother her, and it never will; there are some things that sting. if she had kits of her own, her clanmates won't be able to see them as full thunderclanners. always a housecat.
maybe she needs to ask flamestar for another apprentice. when she's busy, her thoughts don't bother her. instead she leaves camp for multiple hours at a time, which is unfortunately, very boring in the dead of leafbare. it's drab, the snow slushes on her paws, and it's annoyingly cold. she tries to bring home prey when she can, so no one complains to her about choices she's made. i'm a lead warrior. hunting is a necessity when their nursery overflows with kits and their clanmates are injured by useless war. calloused paws bring her to the edge of the border, where she stands in awkward silence with no one beside her to talk too.
what happens next is unfortunate luck. leafhusk is always careful, especially with twolegs, they're benevolent creatures. but she can't help herself when the nostalgic smell of wet food wafts her nostrils. she takes a small bite, and greedily takes another. in seconds, she's lifted in the air by a pair of gloved hands. leafhusk panics, flails her claws, and twists her body to try and free herself. when she gets a look at her captor, she remembers a day spent by the windclan border. the season where their neighbors were running away from twolegs every time they left camp, the very same one she distracted before it could get to a patrol.
at least she won't be far.

erm...... happy 250 post !!
hopefully this doesn't come as a surprise but i'm dropping stepping down as lw and benching leafhusk for the foreseeable future, as of right now i don't know if she'll come back. my muse for her has been wavering for awhile so i had to make the really tough decision to leave the hp team. i can't commit to a plot where she steps down, and i don't like killing ocs, so all i could really do was ship her off. this was not an easy decision, i've loved my time on the hp team and writing her. :(
