leave and turn to dust | settling in

"Oh."

The single word fell from Howlpa'ws mouth when she realised she could not find her next in the apprentice's den. It was to be expected, of course, but it still hurt. The spot where she would usually sleep now sat largely empty and was partially filled by other nests pushed close together to fill the gap. A small sigh parted her lips once more as she turned her focus onto finding another spot to sleep. It was strange seeing so many bodies so close together now. Having spent all that time squashed in a cage by herself Howlpaw was not used to the idea of having multiple cats sleeping next to her.

"Where to go, where to go..." She mused, more to herself than anyone in particular.

ooc/ set the night after shelter cats return

Doomguy has no concept of separate dens, or ranks, or which nest is whose. The little tortie kit stomps his way past Howlpaw and into the apprentice's den, filling the small space up with his reek. Bold green eyes flick around until he spots a comfortable-looking nest.

He pounces, gleeful. His gray and orange tail flails excitedly behind him. But he isn't interested in sleeping -- he immediately begins to shred the nest with his needle-tipped claws, chewing on the pieces he destroys with pleasure.

// feel free to have this be your oc's nest <3

Reactions: TWITCHBOLT

From a distance Twitchbolt had heard the slightly deflated words that fled from Howlpaw's mouth. Ears immediately swivelled to the sound, olivine eyes flickering a little wider than their normally moon-round stasis. What was in there that would be distressing her? Surely it was in- in pretty poor taste to prank her, wasn't it? If that was what someone had done...

Twitchbolt got to his feet striding over to the fern-tunnel and poking his head inside. Howlpaw's pacing caught his attention immediately, and he had parted his lips to speak before the small rrrip of grasping claws swivelled his attention to where one of the shelter-kittens- which one was that- was exacting some... ancient revenge upon the nest of a stranger.

"Sh- oh," he cut into his own speech, padding hurriedly over to the kitten. He fixed Howlpaw an uncertain look before his attention flickered down to the kid. Was this her nest he was shredding? "Hey, why don't- let's find you something else to r-rip up..."

Sparrowpaw knew about Howlpaw. A little bit, at least. One of the many SkyClan cats that had gone missing, taken by the twolegs to never be seen again; at least, so they thought.

Despite having never known a majority of the cats that reappeared when the patrol brought them home, the tabby still found it hard to believe that they had come back. They were happy. SkyClan was happy. Their family and friends were home, and they were happy for them.

There were a pawful of newcomers to the apprentices' den, filling in the spaces that the apprentices-turned-warriors had previously occupied. They didn't mind it. It was comfortable to sleep near other cats, even if they didn't yet know them.

Howlpaw seemed lost, they noted with a small frown, watching her search around for something that seemed to not be there. Oh, her nest? It must have been cleaned out along with the rest of the old moss when doing chores, they thought with a twinge of guilt. "Is your nest missing?" they spoke up after a moment. "If you want, you could-" they're cut off by a tiny flash of white fur.

A kit they didn't recognize had entered the den, wasting no time in beginning to shred one of the nests. Sparrowpaw let out a yelp. "No no no no-!" they exclaimed, scrambling forward to try and block the kit with a paw. "No, don't do that! Be nice- that's not your nest!"

It is Sparrowpaw that spots her first, quickly deducing that Howlpaw was now missing a nest. She dipped her head appreciatively to the chocolate tabby, and was about to thank them for their offer when a blur of white shot past them and began to tear up another nest.

If Howlpaw hadn't been caught so off guard by the arrival, she might have found the situation amusing. Thankfully, Sparrowpaw and Twitchbolt are quick to intervene, attempting to encourage the kit not to destroy the nest. "I bet there's something better for you to attack outside," Howlpaw suggests, lowering her head to address the kit. "Besides, you don't want to attack that nest it might have fleas hiding in it."
