starclan LEFT ME OLD BEFORE MY TIME — LARKFEATHER

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── He has not slept well these past days. He does not need nightmares to disturb him when memories suffice— his son, dying, dead, and buried, and the cold wall of his mate's eyes whenever he looks upon Wolfsong. He crawls into his nest every night and waits for exhaustion to take him, and today is no different.

Except he wakes to find starry plains instead of the dull walls of his den, and for a moment, a hatchling hope squirms behind his ribs that he might see his son. But dread devours it quickly when he remembers why his son died, why so many WindClanners still cough and wheeze with burns crossing their bodies. Should his son show his face, will he watch Wolfsong accusingly? Could Wolfsong survive such a greeting?

He must.

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 42 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTAR (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge.
★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know; he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel."
★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you.
★★★☆☆ KITTING: Thanks to Starlingheart and his own pregnancy, he's better prepared for the arrival of kits, but any complications will need a little faith and a lot of luck.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you.
★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.

She doesn’t want to approach, not just yet. A golden ring, Wolfsong begins to unfurl himself, and Larkfeather can see the caution that flickers in a cerulean gaze. She knows who he is expecting- anticipating, the lilac warrior had seen how the flames swallowed her birthplace.
When the Starclanner is sure the medicine cat has had a moment to compose himself, she finally makes herself known. Her willowy frame weaves through the plain-grass, long limbs blessed with a grace the warrior had never been able to obtain in life. The soft-hued molly bears no remnants of her death, and her optics twinkle with stardust, the hollow, wary warrior who had died at the maddened Moor Queens claws was no more- no, Larkfeather was bright, content.
“Wolfsong.” His name is exhaled in one gentle breath, Larkfeather’s youthful features squinting as she notices the crinkles of age that had begun to crease in her former medicine cat’s own, or perhaps they were bore from something else completely. “I’m not who you were expecting,” the sentiment is spoken with a sympathetic twist of the she-cats maw, head tilting with a bittersweet glint in her eye. The message she knows needs to be delivered suddenly feels stuck in her throat, looking at the tom now, Larkfeather would be adding another weight to already sagging shoulder blades tonight. “Windclan is strong, you will persist.” The assurance is spoken with earnestness, but the lilac she-cat knows time is running short. After a heartbeat, when the young Starclanner speaks again, her tone is nearly unnaturally heavy with gravity, “Still, I’m afraid I’ve come to bring you a warning.” Another heartbeat, then the ominous prophecy is drawn from solemn lips. “Beware the darkness a forgotten enemy brings.”

”Speech.”

──ᨒ↟↟ᨒ↟ᨒ↟↟ᨒ── It is not his son. His eye closes against the swell of grief and disappointment, and then loathing— because some cowardly part of him is relieved. Even though StarClanners have never been anything other than serene, that yellow-bellied piece of his mind fears that Bearflight will greet him with disdain, with contempt, and he does not know how he could survive dismissal from both his mate and son.

He swallows and meets Larkfeather's eyes. Despite her cruel death to Sootstar, she seems at peace, with the same elegance of the other StarClan cats he has met. She is so young— as are many in the stars, he supposes. Too many, perhaps. "Larkfeather," he greets in return, still slightly wary, waiting for rebuke, but he does not see it in her face. Instead, she speaks encouragement, and he blinks, taken aback, though that small measure of comfort is...it is more than he has found in his own mate. He fights against the misting of his eye and drags in a deep breath, which falters as she continues.

A warning? No. Please, let WindClan know peace. But of course, she cannot heed what he does not say— nor could she even if he had. As she speaks, he bows his head, ears twisting back. "A forgotten enemy? Can you tell me no more than that?" He does not speak accusingly or indignantly, much too tired for either.
