*+:。.。 The moment Gentlestorm opened up the doors for visitors, Bugpaw was scrambling into the medicine den. "SQUIRRELPAW!" she howls, skidding to a violent halt only to prevent assaulting her sister with more injuries. The consequence of her sudden stop would result in an immediate, and quite comical, face plant as kinetic energy didn't care to listen fully to her paws. But Bugpaw didn't notice, already peeling her face from the ground with tears - not related to her bruise now - streaming down her face. "Squirrel, Squirrel, Squirrel" she blubbers, waddling closer to her twin on hesitant paws, before extending them to gently cup her twin's face. There's so much she wants to say! How terrified she was for her, how much she loves her, how she's so sorry for not being there for her...
But finally, with a big sniffle, she says with a smile, "I heard you were so brave"

It was weird how everyone seemed to think Squirrelpaw had been brave during the battle for Sunningrocks. It felt... wrong. She hadn't been brave; she'd been terrified. The only thought in her head had been protecting her mother from the same fate that befell Howlingstar, and what a joke that notion had been. Starclan must've been looking down and laughing at her. Flamestar never needed her help; Squirrelpaw wasn't capable of helping anyone. She'd not taken her training seriously enough, happy to slack off and pretend that nothing terrible would ever happen to Thunderclan because that was easier than accepting the alternative.

And then reality had come knocking at their door, and she was woefully unprepared. Instinct had driven her to place herself between Scarletpaw and her attacker, only seeing that her denmate needed help and thinking nothing of the consequences. Pinepaw had very nearly killed Squirrelpaw, the foolish child that she was, and if her mother hadn't interfered, the Riverclan apprentice easily could've finished what she started. But her clan was proud of her.... how did that make any sense?

The only consolation for the mess she'd gotten herself into was having Hopepaw and of course, Bugpaw to keep her company. Their bond was a lifeline in the darkness. Ever since she'd woken in Gentlestorm's den, she'd been impatiently waiting for the pale-furred medicine cat to allow visitors to finally join them. And apparently today he finally had, because Squirrelpaw was awoken from a light nap by the squealing voice of her twin. Groggily the blue torbie blinked open emerald eyes, squinting through the dark of the medicine den. She still wasn't used being stuck in this hole for so long. Blue-striped ears flinched slightly as Bugpaw cried her name, reaching out to frame her face with white paws. A hoarse chuckle wheezed from her lungs, and she flashed her sister a bright smile.

"Easy, ladybug, I'm okay." What hurt the most wasn't the claw wounds on her chest, or the bite on her throat. It was knowing how worried and distraught her family had been while she'd been unconscious. They hadn't said as much, but she could see it in each of their eyes when they looked at her, like she were some kind of miracle. "I heard you were so brave." Her face fell slightly, her chin wavering but she didn't want Bugpaw to see her cry. Squirrelpaw was determined to show them all that she was okay, that they didn't need to be sad about her anymore. "Well, y'know... someone had to help dumb ole Scarletpaw," she rasped with strained humor. But her gaze softened as it scanned her sister's bi-colored fur, looking for any obvious signs of injury. "I missed you, Buggy. How are you? I heard about Shadowclan... Are you okay?"

*+:。.。 Bugpaw lets out a noise between a sob and a laugh, overjoyed at the sound of her twin's nickname for her; overjoyed to hear Squirrelpaw speak at all! Bugpaw wiggles closer and presses her nose into Squirrelpaw's cheek, her tail whisking back and forth with affection, "you better be, fluff-butt," she laughs, only to peeter to a halt when she feels more than sees her sister grimace. Immediately pulling away, assuming she must've hurt her, she studies her sibling's expression closely as she attempts to mask her pain with a smile. Bugpaw immediately suspects it's not a physical one.

The temptation to prod "Fluff-butt" for answers goes unaddressed when her sibling changes the subject. Now it's Bugpaw's turn to hesitate, shuffling her paws. "I didn't do much of anything during the Shadowclan attack I...just was there" she grows quiet, thinking about Campionsong - about Basilpaw and his siblings, and shivers. She wonders if now's a good time to tell Squirrelpaw about the devastating loss, glancing up to meet her sibling's shining green eyes. Perhaps it shouldn't come from Bugpaw - the girl who did nothing to save her clanmate - her friend's father.
Instead, she sighs and resumes nuzzling Squirrelpaw's shoulder, careful to keep from hurting her, "We can talk about that later, though, for right now," she breathes in her scent, though laced with the acrid tang of blood and poultice, it's still her sister's, "I'm just...so glad you're okay"

For a moment, Bugpaw falls into silence, simply glad to experience life with her sibling. After a moment though, a memory needles into the forefront of her thoughts. Turning her cheek to look at her sibling, Bugpaw twitches an ear, "Oh, hey, do you know who Lionpaw is? The one from Skyclan?"
