camp LIGHTHOUSE ON THE SEA - apprentices only

There was too much "bad" in camp, bad feelings, bad smells, bad cats, and Moonpaw was tired of all the bad. She wanted something good, something fun, something all the apprentices could do together and not claw each other's ears off. And so she had gathered all that she could find, and explained her idea as such: "We'll play a game here around camp, it's called pikes and minnows." Those older might know of it already, but she wasn't sure about the younger cats. "It's a water game, but we can make it so the drypaws can play too. One cat is the pike, who swims around in the water with their eyes closed - that's why it's here near camp so it's safer - and they shout out "pike" and everyone else shouts out "minnow" and the pike has to find the minnows and tag them. Any drypaws who wanna play have to be along the shore, close enough to the water to be able to be touched while the pike is in there, but you can still run around the sides to try not to get caught." Something fun, something new, something that wasn't going to cause a mess in camp and get the warriors upset that they were wreaking havoc on their newly rebuilt home. If anyone were to ask, they were training.

  • apprentices only marco polo game!
how it'll work is we'll roll d20's, and if the pike matches a minnow's roll, that's how they'll be caught!

Robinpaw rarely spends time with her fellow apprentices (not since embarrassing herself at the apprentice get to know you event when RiverClan was staying with SkyClan) but Moonpaw’s call and game instructions were enough to pique the tortie’s interest. It would be a shame to sit out on a game that seemed like fun; especially since Moonpaw wanted to include the drypaws as well. Since she had yet to learn how to swim, Robinpaw was one of the few RiverClan drypaws.

“Sounds like fun. May I be one of the minnows?” She asks the alabaster game master with a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

Dim and murky blue eyes blink slowly as the apprentice shifts where he lays. Jaws part as a soft yawn pulls from his throat as he visibly moves. A stretch that makes his thickly furred body shiver and tremble. For a moment he stills again but he is actually listening. Taking in the game that Moonpaw is describing. Pikes and Minnows. It sounds odd to him and he slowly pushes himself to stand up, tail dragging against the ground. It takes him a moment to even move toward the gathering group of apprentices but he still isn't even sure that he wants to play either. His gaze takes a sweeping look for his brother before he finally looks back to the others. "I don't...I don't know if I want to...to play." He begins with his usual lethargic speaking. The dragging of his words irking himself and making him give a longer pause than necessary. Ears pulling back he debates for a moment before shaking his head a little. "Can I...I watch?"

NETTLEPAW ♂
RIVERCLAN
APPRENTICE
THREE MOONS
BLIND IN BOTH EYES
BIOGRAPHY AND TAGS
APPRENTICED TO PIKESPLASH
PLAYED BY SHEOGORATH

He's sitting near his brother, listening to the rules with pricked ears. It sounded fun, but Nettlepaw has never really been the type to participate in such things. He's tried, in the past, but it never goes the right way, or rather, the way he wants it to. Perhaps he'd get lucky this time? Sightless eyes find Moonpaw as the boy drawls, "Do I have to close my eyes?" He inquires flatly. "What does the minnow do when the pike catches them? Do they become the new pike?" He questions, showing interest in playing along, unlike his brother.

"I'm the first pike, by the way." Nettlepaw decides with a shrug. Maybe this would be an opportunity to make new allies or hone his tracking skills.

Yellow eyes lit up with a spark of interest as Moonpaw shared her idea for a game. She was also ready to be rid of the negative atmosphere lingering in camp, the prospect of something fun and engaging appealed to the young apprentice. She listened intently to Moonpaw's explanation of 'pikes and minnows,' absorbing the details of the water game modified for both swimmers and drypaws.

Her heart slipped a beat at the idea of swimming. She hadn't ever gotten to try til now and the thought unnerved her. Bumblepaw felt a sense of anticipation building. The description of the game, with a pike swimming in the water and minnows trying to avoid getting tagged, sounded like a lot of physical work.

As the other continued to explain the works, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope that maybe she could be a great swimmer. Eager to participate, she nodded in agreement, ready to embrace the chance for some lighthearted fun. Excitedly, she tacked on to the conversation with an airy voice. "I'd like to play as a minnow!" Her ears twitched as Bristlepaw stepped back and Nettlepaw declared themself the first Pike.

Bumblepaw's earlier shyness returned as memories of their awkward spar surfaced. She still hadn't properly apologized to the other and now certainly didn't seem like a good time to try.

"GOT A LITTLE CASH NOW SO THAT SKIRT IS DIOR"
Apprenticeship had been busy lately. Not that it isn't always busy, but there have been far more chores than usual and when all those tasks are combined with training and lessons it can make for a very packed schedule. There was much to be done following the brief migration, the rouge battle, and coming back to RiverClan camp. The warriors were helping of course, but a lot of the tedious and more boring, drawn out work was being done by apprentices. Plus, Bubblepaw shares the sentiment with Moonpaw- the air in camp is awfully negative. She is thankful that at least one among them is thinking of raising the atmosphere a little.

"Ooh, I want to be a minnow!" Bubblepaw practically bounces on her paws after Moonpaw finishes her explanation of the game. It's simple enough. Maybe it will count as a good training exercise, too! The silver tabby stands excitedly near her fellow 'minnows' Robinpaw and Bumblepaw. Hopefully a few others will come join them before they get started. Bubblepaw offers a reassuring smile to Bristlepaw at his hesitance to play with the rest of them.

"You'll be an awesome pike, Nettlepaw," Bubblepaw grins at the younger apprentice, basically confirming that she's perfectly fine with him taking on the role first. He raises a good question, and she replies for Moonpaw: "I don't think you have to close your eyes if you don't want to." But she leaves all his questions about the rules up to the apprentice that's actually running their game of pikes and minnows. She tries not to seem a little too enthusiastic about the start of their game.

*+:。.。 TW for upsetting thoughts at [*] and ending on [**]

Asphodelpaw was an avid believer that if you had time to play, you had time to work. There wasn't any excuse for wasting time like this. The only break a healthy cat needs is enough time to sleep- and Asp liked to think he was good enough proof that you didn't even need all night either. But, well, he supposed he could only make so many enemies being the nag that he was. Perhaps this once he'll keep his opinions to himself. After all, Moonpaw wasn't the only one exhausted by the ever-present gloom that didn't seem any closer to dissipating.
His ears prickled though as he approached, feeling a bit timid as the weight of his hypocrisy dawned on him. All of his 'no excuses' rhetoric held no weight now as he noticed the turn-out and all the smiling faces, morale already restoring itself within the younger generation thanks to this game idea. Maybe...it'd be good for him, too, to join in on the fun, experiencing kit hood again.
(*) But the closer he got, the more the words 'May I join?' died on his tongue. The chattering became a wordless hum as his gaze drew to the water. Flowing, rushing, friendly, as familiar to him as the back of his paw, and yet all he could think of was the taste of bubbles erupting from his mouth. The dead eyes of the cat he helped hold under that same bubbling flow. And suddenly he couldn't take the image of his own clanmates - those giggling around him, eager to play and strengthen bonds - being the ones to hold him down, a multitude of paws digging into his shoulders until that stream of breathless bubbles finally came to a stop-
(**)
"Ill uh...Ill watch with Bristlepaw" he says to no one in particular, not realizing he had been holding his breath until the words came out strained. He takes his spot beside Bristlepaw, shooting the younger tom a timidly uncomfortable look. This counted towards the goal of forging a bond with his fellow 'paws, right? A sigh is all the answer he can give himself as he looks back at the crowd. He can't even say he envies them, not when his chest still strains with uncomfortable memories.
Trying his best to make the most of it, though, he looks back at Bristlepaw and clears his throat, summoning some kind of bravery. "How uh- how long do you think it'll take your brother to catch a minnow? Like...was he....ever good at hide and seek?" this has to be the worst ice-breaking in all living history. He hopes Bristlepaw tells him to scram, it'll save him from the embarrassment for sure.
