*:・゚✶ the sun is beginning to rise over the horizon, a once star-lit sky now bleeds with hues of reds and oranges. golden rays of elusive light spill across the swamplands causing shadows to receed and reveal the rotting leaf-litter and dying grasses that was concealed beneath it. cats were beginning to stir in shadowclan which included geckoscreech who can be seen parting from the leader's den, dipping into a quick stretch before heading towards the apprentice's den where she briefly poked her head in to pick out sparrowpaw from the pile of sleeping bodies. "get up sparrowpaw. it's time i took you out for training." she speaks curtly, uncaring if another apprentice is awoken by her arrival before backing out and walking towards the entrance of camp to wait.

when she was first assigned to sparrowpaw she wasn't paticularly pleased about it, it was like being left with the scraps while everyone else was given something better. you should be glad to be given another one at all. reminds her thoughts which causes geckoscreech to suck a sharp breath into her lungs, tail tip flicking once then twice before stilling. what happened to ghostpaw will not happen again because although she holds this former rogue under a dim light, he's still just a child. one that needs to be taught and guided to prepare them for the future.

geckoscreech will ensure sparrowpaw will come out to be the top of his group, even if that means pushing him passed set limits.

Darkness.

It flooded the land, twinkling lights of the stars disappearing within uncaring claws. dull blue eyes widened, and limber legs began to run. pounding against marshy ground, puddles soaking his paws as the thick void grew closer.

the unfortunate part about darkness, was that it was not something that could be ran from. it gripped around the boys head, and there was no echoing as screams released from the child's throat. there was no mercy the darkness would provide.

he began to choke, claws digging into the ground, as it's grasp began to grow thicker. gasping and heaving as he tried to force air down his throat and into his lungs.

and just a few feet away, he heard a voice. a voice that broke the boys slumber, waking up in a sharp inhale as if all the air has actually left his body. sweat soaked his dark form, and breaths short and quick. paws gripped his mossy bed, trying to find his bearings and get his vision to focus.

he barely noticed geckoscreech leaving the den. "I'm coming," he croaked out, closing his eyes to inhale deeply. it was just a dream, his thoughts echoed. but it echoed his fears. he'd have to confront them eventually, but it wouldn't be today.

he'd push himself onto his paws, emerging from the apprentices den with eyes that appeared lost in the distance. just as well with a pelt that clung bits of moss to it. it stuck out like a sore paw next to the blacks browns and white of his scruffy and messy fur. "good morning, geckoscreech," he uttered softly. though it wasn't necessarily good, he would pretend to seek refuge from his dreams as if they never occurred. "what do you have planned for today?"
