He couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe it couldn't believe it couldn't believe it! Oh, it was just so incredible. Even now, as he slowly worked at bringing it back to camp, his heart still pounded with excitement.

Coalfoot had managed to find a pheasant. Not only that, but he had caught it. Far from easily, but he would be damned if he were to let it get away. The tom was somewhat battered from the scuffle, but thankfully had avoided the flailing talons. Wings, not so much. His legs were sore from the effort it took to bring it down. Now his jaw and neck were beginning to stiffen as he struggled to drag the large bird across the frozen moor. It wasn't fat by any means, but it was still huge!

By the time he made it to the familiar gorse tunnel, he was puffing for breath. Coalfoot paused at the entrance, finally letting it go to release his barely-contained giddiness. "Everyone! Look!" Stooping down to grab it again, he resumed dragging it backward into camp, proud to show off what had to be the greatest catch of his life.

crowpaw was in the middle of hauling water soaked moss across camp when coalfoot's exclamations caught her attention. green eyes narrowed ever so slightly. she had never seen anything like the creature that now lied on the ground in front of the warrior. a bird, a large one at that. it would do well at feeding multiple windclanners. she almost hated him for it.

there he was, schlepping in a giant piece of prey, actually helping the clan, while she was once again kept busy with useless chores. crow was intensely jealous. she finished off dropping the moss in front of some elders, flicking her ear at their mumbled thanks, before trotting over to coalfoot and his prize with a small grin.

"wow, where'd you find that thing?" she inquired in a curious tone, dipping her head to take a closer look at the feathered creature. no hints of her envy towards coalfoot's catch could be found in her tone. she sounded supportive, but if he shared where he found it she was fully planning on going there for herself.

It was difficult to impress the blue tabby. Yet green eyes spot the black and white warrior return to camp, a prize claimed in his jaws. It was a decently large bird, mostly brown but it has bursts of colorful plumage here and there. Sootstar would usually begin to salivate at such a sight, but her stomach doesn't rumble, it feels as if it's been replaced by a stone. Sootstar doesn't see this as a bad thing, the less she was hungry the better.

Stepping off her rock she approaches Coalfoot shortly after Crowpaw to give her own way of congratulations. "Fine catch! We must show Dandelionwish this- I believe this is a sign from StarClan telling us we are still being looked out for, even through the cold!" She chirps happily.

Sootstar's quite opposite, Mallowlark's stormy eyes often widened with the glow of awe. Today was no exception, but the look in his eyes was brighter than ever- at least, that WindClan would have seen. A spirit drifted in the pine forest unaware he had witnessed the most argent gleam that Mallowlark might ever yield, but this catch- this was almost half as deserving! A woozy walk carried him over, but despite the mist-wisp of his wheezy breaths he made his approach, gaze admiring and almost perfectly, impossibly circular.

"A sign from StarClan, hah!" He laughed not because he thought the concept worth mocking, but because it was such a surprisingly joyful thought coming from their leader. She did have the capability to have fun, he'd known it for a long time, but as of recent he'd seen it a little more. Maybe soon he'd be sure they were friends. "We're clearly in their good books, then," he chimed, song-like, church-bells. Probably a little discordant, though he knew not.

Each approaching cat was enough to make him beam with pride over his unexpected catch, Sootstar's especially making his eyes practically glow, his grin nearly as wide as Mallowlark's. Coalfoot looked down at the bird, just shy of his own size, admiring it just once more. "Well, I-" he began, taking a moment to clear his throat. It had tightened somewhat in the excitement of it all. "I wasn't actually hunting, that's the thing. I went out hoping to find some things for everyone's nests now that it's getting colder.

"And along the way, I saw this bird, and I- I wish I had someone with me, I almost lost it a few times, it's a wonder I caught it at all - anyway, I managed to catch it! Can you believe that?" Coalfoot was left breathless by his spilling story, sucking in a deep breath only to sweep right on. "I must have thanked StarClan a hundred times on the way back." Head snapping up, he looked to Sootstar as a thought struck him. "Do you think there could be more? Should we go search for them, or just hope they don't leave? If there are. More."

Then, returning his stare to the pheasant, "Oh, now that I think of it, there's gonna be plenty of feathers for everyone's nests. Two for one, haha!" He giggled, only for his head to drop and the tom to stumble, tripping over his catch and plunking himself on the earth. It was a few heartbeats before he seemed to recover, grin replaced with a somewhat dazed look.

All at once his head jerked up, eyes wide and face burning with embarrassment as he took in the staring bystanders. "I-I- I- I'm sorry," he sputtered. "I'm fine." The... the bird. "We- we should make sure to... to keep the feathers."

IM SCARED TO GET CLOSE AND I HATE BEING ALONE
I LONG FOR THE FEELING TO NOT FEEL AT ALL
THE HIGHER I GET, THE LOWER I SINK
I CAN'T DROWN MY DEMONS, THEY KNOW HOW TO SWIM

Coldsnap had only returned from his own hunt a few minutes prior to Coalfoots exclaimation of 'Everyone! Look!'. The large tabby tomcat was still lingering by the fresh kill pile where he'd discarded the sparrow he'd managed to sneak up on, and yellow eyes shifted to land on the other as the proudly carried their catch farther into camp.

A brow would lift in surprise at the sight of the bird, clearly impressed. He'd known Coalfoot could run like hell, but it looked like he was going for 'best hunter in the clan', too. Not for the first time, Coldsnap felt an odd sense of amusement rise within him at the sight of Coalfoot confidently dragging his kill in and then rambling on about how he'd found the thing by pure chance.

The other Windclanners seemed happy to reward the toms efforts with praise, and Coalfoot seemed happy for the attention- until he suddenly lurched forward and stumbled over his own catch, ears burning with embaressment. Yellow eyes were quick to snap to Mallowlark, a warning there that should he choose to bust out laughing at Coalfoots mishap that he'd best at least try to hide it.

"Echolight will be happy for them in the nursery." he replied in regards to the feathers as he made his way over to join the group, breezing past Coalfoots little hiccup so the others wouldn't make a big deal of it. "Bird like that probably beat the hell out of you during the fight, though. Wouldn't be surprised if you got some bruises off those wings. I know that rooster gave me a few during the farm raid a few months back."
