pafp LOOSE BOLT OF A COMPLETE MACHINE | apprentice den chatter

bio ₊˚✧ ゚. Excitement still sloshes around. He's trying to rope whoever will listen into the conversation, with a bright, excited stare. Apprentice, it's what he's been anticipating since he was too young but now, he's it. It's getting darker outside, but his mouth is still running. As a result of the good mood there's a distinct lack of the venomous words and fight picking that has, on occasion, had him temporarily outcast from the nursery. "I get to see everything now!" He's explaining excitedly to Valepaw. Their first night in the den as apprentices and he's already brought his barely contained energy.

He's carefully carried over his belongings from the nursery has bid a what he would never admit is a tearful goodbye to his mother. His pebbles and shiny things are placed with care around his nest, making the time to armor his new nest with familiar things.

He pauses, he can't seem to reflect the lack of confidence Valepaw seemingly has towards the graduation to apprenticeship, Bitepaw can't see why the achievement wouldn't be the pinnacle of anyone's life and dreams. "You should be as excited as I am." He asserts. "What kind of mentor do you think Redpath and Silverbreath are going to be?"

He turns his next question elsewhere, likely already loud enough to an annoying degree regardless. "What kind of mentor is Salmonshade?" He's more than ready to have his excitement soured, having a tendency to pick a fight at the slightest provocation when emotions have his heart racing so fast.

Valepaw lets out a huge sigh... Bitepaw is none too shortcoming with his thoughts and he is obviously made annoyed by the chimera's lack of enthusiasm. As much as he insisted upon it, there were plenty of fresh memories to give him pause for joining this losing battle... being an apprentice was not something to be excited about. It now meant he was obligated to risk his life. He was now required to die when asked to. That wasn't fun like his den-mates wanted to lead him to believe. And he loathed them for it... for their dumb manipulation, their ignorance if it was non-intentional.

"You can be excited," he says shortly. He does not agree and cannot be forced to. Paws work to spread the nest out more comfortably as he can... this new one would not be nearly as nice as the plush ones in the nursery. And there was no going back there now anyways- Hazecloud had taken roost there and while he was glad to be free of sharing a den with her, he wasn't sure it was worth the price presented.

The other travels down the path of talking about their mentors and Valepaw is reminded, again, that he is going to die in Redpath's care. He is certain her eagerness to do 'battle' and 'fight' and 'send others home crying' is tantamount to throwing him headfirst into danger. "Dunno... Hopefully good."

That's all he can hope for. That they're competent enough not to get anyone killed before they get their warrior names.

"Probably better than Pikesplash could ever be." The frustrated hiss rises from the shadows at the back of the den, where Nettlepaw has made his nest. The boy is referring to their talk of mentors, of course, though Nettlepaw hadn't planned to stick around and chat for long. He's merely taking shelter for a bit to warm up, having recently returned from a border patrol. The apprentice's paws felt frigid and numb, but at least he could warm himself in his nest for a bit before the next outing. Blind eyes flicker toward Bitepaw and Valepaw curiously, new apprentices that were now making the reed woven den feel even more crowded than usual. Looking at Bitepaw reminds the creamy young tabby of his notched ear, the scar he had won from that owl's talon. No doubt Bitepaw will be just as reckless as he had been as a kit. Nettlepaw supposes he can relate.

"Don't understand why Smokestar assigned him to me." The frosty apprentice admits, tail tip flicking irritably. He still felt sore from his little tussle with the warrior. Just thinking about Pikesplash made him feel bitter.

A child still fresh from leafbares thaw, Otterpaw should have been a prime example of peak development skill and growth in the apprentices den. Unfortunately the day he had earned his name as a -paw the river had become shallow from the beaver dams. Introduced to already struggling conditions in the river while he was already impossibly impatient, Otterpaw lacked true tact in fishing. Land hunting had been no better, his temporary mentor being adamant about getting down basic fishing before even thinking of tackling a mouse.

Coyotecreek had cleaned up some of the mess left, but spurned by Smokestar pushing him aside for another apprentice, his teachings were met with resistance.

"Watch it." He snarled to Nettlepaw in particular, fur spiking as he lashing his tail. "I'd be lucky to have my dad as a mentor- be grateful you weren't stuck with a barncat." He huffed and shifted his chest over his paws. "Besides, if you're expecting some blind warrior on standby just for you, you're a fool."
