Living just to find emotion

Sandwhisper was standing on a rock, eyes closed in contentment as a strong leaf-fall wind whipped through the moorlands, bringing with it the many scents of things far away. She would take a deep breath as if the gale itself filled her body with energy, and with a call from one of the cats on her patrol, she would smile and hurriedly jump down to catch up with the rest, "Sorry!" She would mew cheerfully as she caught up with them, "It's just such a nice day out I had to appreciate it for a sec." Her duel-colored eyes would sparkle with their usual joy, her paws lightly kneading the ground as she looked up at the sky once more.

Even with her happy attitude, Sandwhisper had climbed the rock for another reason, making sure there weren't any of those pesky hawks in the sky that could swoop down and attack again. Her mind flashed to Duskfire, wondering if she should catch him something special after his recent loss, but the sadness would not linger on her face for long, it never really did.

Turning to the others of her patrol she would pipe up once more, "What should we try catching today? Any cat got any favorites?"

"And I have homework and shit I need to do"
A patrol is just what he needed! A chance to get out and about, but now it seemed rather terrifying to even be outside of camp walls. Those hawks have been causing a stirr and everything seemed rather different, shifted in a way, and he couldn't quite place his paw on it. Regardless, Siennachirp was just happy to be part of the patrol. How could he say no to Sandwhisper anyway? Their attiude was infectious and he rather enjoyed her company, and he gave a smile at her approach from scowering the skies for hawks.

Siennachirp gave a rusty noise of greeting to the she-cat, and looked to the rest of the ground. He hadn't caught anything, the tunnels seemed to have left barren due to winter coming. Though hopefully the rest of the party did better.

Paws thrum against the ground as the she-cat bursts from a nearby tunnel's entrance in pursuit of a hare, the sudden light burning her dilated eyes. Pebblenose hisses out a string of colorful curses, relying on her nose and the sound of the hare's frantic bounds as her eyes squeeze shut against the assaulting sun.

Within a few strides, the tunneler has pinned her quarry, teeth quickly meeting its jugular with expertise. The hare falls limp beneath her, and Pebblenose straightens herself with a proud grin. She couldn't wait to strut into WindClan's camp with a catch as fine as this! Her clanmates will be kissing the ground she walks upon, praising her for her prized hunting prowess!

The voices of a passing patrol garner her attention, dust-covered ears swiveling in their direction. With a chilly breeze ruffling her fur, Pebblenose is reminded of her surroundings, suddenly expansive and open. Her habitually arched back bristles, exposed to the sky. As quickly as she could with the weight of the hare, the tunneler drags her prized prey towards the sounds of a patrol. Safety in numbers. (She would be a terrible liar if she said that she wasn't eager to show off her catch sooner rather than later, as well.)

Her vision is just beginning to recover as she reaches the patrol, led by the infuriatingly cheery Sandwhisper. With a relieved grunt, Pebblenose drops the hare at her paws, ridding her neck of the strain. "Hey! Hey! Look what I caught," Pebblenose grins, pawing at the hare with her chest puffed. Although, fleeting glances are sent towards the sky, keeping diligent watch for the shadows of hawks.

I WANT SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS

Dusk had been doing his best to just keep himself busy in the wake of everything that had happened. He'd found the best way to endure the loss of Rosepaw and Inkylotus was to simply put it completely out of his head, and so that's what the Deputy had been doing in the weeks following the death and departure of the pair respectively. More than ever he'd been throwing himself into whatever work he could find, and when the call for a patrol had gone out he'd been quick to volunteer himself, not caring what the patrol was for, where it was going, or of any of the potential danger that may lay in wait. The hawks that still roamed the skies over the moors left him simmering with rage and fear, and green eyes were ever vigilant when beyond the safety of the camp, as eager as they were apprehensive for one of the avians to try attacking once more. He loathed the idea of losing anyone else to them, and yet his claws longed for the chance to wreak their vengeance, and he knew that if another of his patrols came under attack that he wouldn't hesitate to try and destroy the bird foolish enough to dive at his clanmates- even if it cost him his life.

As Sandwhisper made her way back over to them, Duskfire could sense the shecats wariness. His own eyes were often trained on the skies as well, and so he couldn't exactly fault her for wanting to keep an eye out, though he couldn't begin to express how important the need for them to stick together was. Neither she nor Siennachirp had been there the day the day his patrol was almost decimated by the birds, and so they couldn't possibly imagine or understand just how quickly chaos could explode around them. Almost every single cat that day had been maimed, several of them coming close to losing their lives, and Duskfire had no intention of allowing it to happen a second time.

"Bird is my favorite, but I don't have a preference for what we hunt." Duskfire replied, well aware of the irony of the statement. Birds were the first thing the tomcat had learned to hunt and they remained the thing he was most adept at catching to this day. "No rabbits, though. We have to run too far to catch them and I don't want anyone getting lured out past the safety of the group. Half of us will keep an eye on the sky while the other half of you can spread out to do some hunting."

It was at this point that another figure appeared among them, one who hadn't set out with their patrol initially. Dusk had half a mind to scold Pebblenose for being out here on her own, but he was quick to remind himself that she typically worked the tunnels and therefor didn't need the extra protection- unless she was chasing rabbits out of the tunnels onto the moors, which seemed to be exactly what had happened here.

"It's a good catch, it'll feed more than just a single cat." Dusk agreed, offering the shecat a nod of approval.

Living just to find emotion

Smiling warmly to her mute friend, Sandwhisper would soon turn to face Pebblenose and her smile was turned onto her clanmate, a purr of approval at their catch, and the pretty sepia was more than happy to dish out some praise.

"Wow, Pebblenose! That has to easily be one of the biggest rabbits I've seen. The kits are going to be begging you to tell the tale of how you caught that." Her words were nothing but genuine, and the glitter of pride for her clanmates' achievement in her dual-colored eyes only emphasized that.

As Duskfire spoke up as well, she would nod along with his praise of the catch, and then she would appear thoughtful for a moment, "We can catch birds! Having lookouts is a good idea too." Turning to Pebblenose the molly would purr once again, "Do you want to join us? We can wait for you to hide your rabbit if you do!"
