The sun had begun to set, casting the world around the forest in a golden light and glittered off what snow remained. The ground below here was a little dryer as the trees interlocked enough to protect the ground from rain or snow melting. Some places where muddy but majority of the ground is dry, and green hues looked back towards a doubled patterned cat. "I know I promised something better, but I know you'll like this," A shorter cat spoke, her voice rising with her nervousness and she swallowed hard. Keep it together she reminded herself with a small twitch of a white ear.

Quillpaw had seemed rather upset lately, not himself more like, and Bananapaw wanted to know why. He was her best friend and she told him everything, and she wished he'd do the same sometimes. Something was clearly bothering him and so she had asked him to come on a walk with her. They had gotten rather far from the camp and more near twolegplace, and then she slowed to walk beside him.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Bananapaw asked the other with a small tilt of her head, "Whats been bothering you," She gave his shoulder a soft nudge with her muzzle and looked up at him, "You know you can always talk to me about anything,"

It was true that Quill hadn't been himself in the weeks following the fox attack- at least, no version of himself that the clan was familiar with. Hell, not even a version that Quill himself was familiar with. The death of Twitches parents had sent the other apprentice into a nosedive afterward, overworking themselves, never sleeping, and ignoring any kind of self-care. And seeing Twitch act in such a manner - so torn up by his own feelings- was affecting Quill as well.

He was almost never away from the other cat these days, always standing just over their shoulder and fixing any cat who was stupid enough to approach a look of warning that seemed to say 'upset him and I'll rip your head off'. He wasn't talking to Fireflypaw either anymore, completely ignoring the younger tom in camp, though nobody really knew why. Bananapaw had practically had to drag him out here by his ears, the chimera having refused to leave Twitch until shecat had begun tearing up in front of him. For whatever reason, seeing her so upset had made him cave and he'd followed her out into the forest, frustrated but minding himself that she was his friend and she was just trying to look out for him- like he was looking out for Twitch.

And that made it a little easier, helped him find a bit of his patience, because Bananapaw was a nice cat and he did like her, and the idea that she wanted to look after him was a little flattering, something he wasn't entirely used to.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"[/b] she asked, causing invisible brows to furrow in confusion.

"Talk about what?" he replied, mismatched eyes shifting toward her.

"What's been bothering you."

He frowned as she reached over to nudge him, but not because he was bothered by the contact. Instead, it was her words that troubled him. Was it really that easy to see that he was worried?

"You know you can always talk to me about anything."

Could he? Chewing at his lower lip as he considered the words, he didn't think Bananapaw would ever be purposefull cruel to him or any cat. But did he even have anything to say? And if he did, what good would it do to say it out loud? None of it would change anything. It wouldn't stop that fox from showing up and killing Twitches parents.

"I guess I'm just... worried about Twitchpaw." he admitted as they walked along, but it felt wrong, like he shouldn't be saying anything about the other tom to someone else, even if that cat was Bananapaw.

Tawny and white paws moved across the muddy ground carefully, picking their way over rocks and logs, and she looked over at Quillpaw as he responded to her questions. "Twitchpaw huh? You seem to worry an awful lot about the guy," She pointed out to him and a small shrug of her shoulders, "Grief is hard, for anyone really, and everyone takes things as their own speed,"

There was a part of her that felt absolutely terrified of the prospect of loosing a parent, let alone both of them. She didn't knwo what she'd do or what would become of her if she lost Alice or Heavy Stone, even her siblings too for that matter. Family was important, Chrysalispaw was imporant, Quillpaw was important, and she'd be devistated to loose them in any circumstances.

"Just make sure he stays hydrated, and eats something even if its a little bit of plant or something," She opted for a positive suggestion of what to do rather than voice her own fears of loosing loved ones. Bananapaw would and could not put herself in Twitchpaws' footsteps.

"Twitchpaw huh? You seem to worry an awful lot about the guy,"

"Well someone has to." he shot back, words laced with frustration. Everyone said they cared, would offer the other apprentices their sad smiles and empty words of reassurance, but they weren't there when the other was tossing and turning from nightmares -if he evern managed to fall asleep-, they didn't force him to sit down and eat, the weren't itching under the skin because their friend was falling apart in front of them.

That's not true, a voice in his head chimed, Butterflytuft cares, and so does Daisyflight.

And it was hard to argue that, because he knew the two had been trying as well to help where they could.

"Grief is hard, for anyone really, and everyone takes things as their own speed,"

She was right. Feelings were messy and they took time, especially when it came to loss and family.

"I know. It just- it's happened a bad time." Quill replied, and again he was struck with guilt, because it didn't feel right to talk about him when he wasn't here, and yet... Wuill wanted to say it to someone, wanted to vent his frustrations and worries and have someone tell him things would be fine so that he could remain confident for his friend. "Twitch got into a really bad fight with them literally right before it happened. And he said some things he'll never get to take back now. I don't know how he's gonna handle that. I know he's not weak, but family.. Family's hard."

He knew that better than most.

"Just make sure he stays hydrated, and eats something even if its a little bit of plant or something,"

The chimera nodded, seeming to relax a little. "I made him take the morning off yesterday. Brought him a squirrel so he could have a proper meal." he replied, kicking aimlessly at a pebble on the path before him. Water was important to though. He would have to remember that.

That was something she hadn't been aware of. Having a fight with them and then they passed away right afterwards, that had to be the most difficult thing to ever deal with. Bananapaw gave a softened look at Quillpaw and nudged his shoulder softly, "Thats good, you fed him and stuff so thats a good step," She didn't know what she'd do if Alice or Heavy Stone passed away right after a fight with them. Not being able to say sorry or that she loved them would be heart breaking. Maybe she was too tough on Twitchpaw. Something about him just irked her fur the wrong way or something and she couldn't quite place her paw on as to why.

"I do hope he finds closure though, maybe theyre in that Starclan that the clan speaks of all the time?" Bananapaw offered as a solution to Twitchpaws' problem. She herself didn't believe in the starry cats in the sky, but she didn't blame those for doing so. It just seemed a little far fetched, like a fairy tale, that cats could talk to the dead. That they came down from the sky and everything like that in the stories they told. But she respected those who did in fact believe in Starclan.

Bananapaw looked up into the sky above for a moment and gave a small chuckle, "Thanks for coming out here with me, Quill, I really could've use a reason to be out of camp today," She mused playfully and nudged his shoulder softly with her muzzle.

Quill nodded at the words, silently glad for the approval. He wanted to take care of his friend but it wasn't like he had a ton of experience doing this kind of thing either, so being told that food and rest was a good place to start was at least a reassurance that he wasn't fucking things up. The chimera couldn't even begin to pretend he knew what a healthy grieving process looked like, and he just barely had a grasp on the concept of 'comfort'.

He didn't want to make things worse for Twitch.

"I do hope he finds closure though, maybe they're in that Starclan that the clan speaks of all the time?"

Mismatched eyes shifted to land on the other apprentice, a soft hum of consideration escaping him. Quill had never really put much thought into the clans beliefs. As an avid stargazer who'd always longed for the silence and stillness of dark skies lit by far away flecks of light, he'd been oddly taken with the idea of becoming one with them; a cat of Starclan. But that's all it had ever really been- an idea. Did he really believe there were cats wrapped up in the stars, stalking the night sky as their hunting grounds?

Not really. He was a creature of logic, a cat who lacked the creativity and imagination to live in a world where the dead actually walked in the stars.

"Maybe." he echoed, wondering if his friend even believed in it himself.

Maybe he should ask.

"Thanks for coming out here with me, Quill, I really could've use a reason to be out of camp today,"

The gentle nudge didn't go unnoticed, but he wasn't bothered by it either. Slowly but surely Quill was adapting to the small touches that were so prevalent in Skyclan- Mushie clinging to his foreleg, Bananas casual nudges, and Wildpaw leaning against him. He wasn't so tense about it anymore, and he could probably attribute that to the fact that he trusted all of them.

"Yeah, I guess it's not so bad. I probably needed the air, too." he admitted, not because he needed any kind of break from Twitch, but simply because he'd been spending a lot of mental and emotional energy trying to navigate his feelings lately, and it was nice to take a step away from all of that so he could get his head in order. "Twitch says we're probably going to be made warriors soon. You excited to get your full name?"

Deep mossy green hues watched the dual patterned tabby with such admiration, such a soft spot for him, that she could only smile as he talked. Maybe was right, maybe they where or maybe they weren't. As long as it brought comfort to Twitchpaw, she supposed it didn't matter that much. The tawny and white she-cat blinked a bit in surprise as Quill continued the conversation with them being warriors, and she let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding.

"Its crazy ain't it? A few moons ago I was lounging in my nest, bored out of my mind with my mom," Bananapaw commented with a light laugh to her tone as she waved her tail around a bit, "Now I'm part of something, something real and a place I feel accepted," There was a small hesitant look to her features before she pressed her nose into Quillpaws cheek softly, "Could say the forest is what I fell in love with," She half joked about it but really was testing the waters.

Bananapaw has had the biggest crush on Quillpaw for a good few moons now and she wanted to shoot her shot but she wanted to wait. Later tonight when she gave him his gift for Valentines day like she had with Chrysalispaw. The chimera tomcat flashed behind her eyelids and she looked away from Quill as if ashamed. This tightness grew in her chest and she gave a small throat clearing before responding with, "I haven't really been thinking about it, I guess," Bananapaws' voice was low and she looked down at the ground a bit.
