This was the last thing Zemo wished to do, but he no longer has any choice. Zemo remembers when the group of cats living nearby formed into colonies, and later developed into clans. The tabby chimera was always there, silently observing but never engaging. He didn't see the appeal in abandoning his life style, he has always been a loner. He has never been bound by rules, free to live where he choose (albeit, excluding clan territory). His mate, Mirjana, also felt hesitancy about joining a clan. Like him, she was stubborn, and didn't want to abandon everything she had known. She was the most beautiful cat he laid eyes on, and every day he wishes she was still here by his side.
Life as a loner has never been easy, but it was far more difficult with kits. Typically, loners don't stay together for very long— based on his own experience. His father was never present in his life— he remembers the name his mother would call him by, but it was evident that his father never intended to stick around. His own mother only stuck around until she was confident Zemo would be fine on his own; he hasn't seen his mother since. He and Mirjana were different, though. He never left her side, and he glowed in pride when he looked at their kits— Ekaterina (or better known as Ekat), Vesna, and Vladimir. Ekat was an only child until Vesna and Vladimir came around, and at the time, it seemed like their little family was complete. But then, this world reminded them that it can be cruel, and merciless.
He remembers how quickly everything turned south, and not 12 moons ago. Ekat was six moons old, Vesna and Vladimir barely three moons. His family had been traveling; loners typically don't stay in one place for too long, there isn't a precise location Zemo can call home. The river was frozen over, and gave them the perfect opportunity to cross. Ekat was padding aside him, and Mirjana and the other two kits were right behind them. Disaster struck when the ice cracked, and the sound echoed in his ears. He remembers Mirjana telling him to grab Ekat and go. He never snatched her up so quickly, and he raced against the ice. He made it to the shore, at the edge of the twolegplace, but to his devastation, Mirjana, Vesna and Vladimir were nowhere to be seen.
It's been just him and Ekat now. Any other loner would've parted ways, but he couldn't lose her too. She's no longer a kit, but she'll always be a kit in his eyes. Leafbare has been especially harsh this year. There is little food, and his stomach gnaws in hunger, but Zemo refuses to resort to begging for kittypet food. He would typically rely on hunting and scavenging, but the rogue activity has been getting worse. The rogues are far more aggressive than him— and are very protective of the areas they think belong to them, and the food they think is theirs. Apparently, the shelter he and Ekat were occupying now belongs to the rogues. They were quick to chase the two loners out in the dead of night, and with a rumbling tummy and the cold breeze brushing against his fur, Zemo hated the first idea to come to mind.
SkyClan.
It's the clan that borders the twolegplace, and what he's heard from other loners, they are the most friendly to outsiders. He hates thinking it, but their best chance for survival might be joining SkyClan. He can't lose Ekat too, not after the loss of her mother and siblings. He hopes the rumors are correct, and that they won't be chased off. "Someone should find us soon," He says to Ekat with a flick of an ear. "Everything should be fine." They are barely in SkyClan's territory, hopefully it won't too long until a patrol runs across the two cats. So, the black and fawn chimera waits, ears alert for the sound of paws crunching beneath snow.
