I WANT SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS

Hyacinthbreath was no longer a Lead Warrior. He had been made to rid her of her mark himself after she chose to stand before Sootstar and resign from her position, and even now he still had a sour taste in his mouth over it. He felt as if he'd lost an important ally, and even though she was still here and was still the closest thing he had to a friend, he felt even more alone in his fight to protect Sootstar knowing the other shecat was no longer standing beside him.

The morning was crisp that day as he made his way over to stand beneath tallrock, a frost having fallen over the land during the night. It was growing steadily colder, and despite his age this would be Duskfires first winter outside. He was still familiar with the biting cold and the lack of food, but he knew it would be different this time around with nothing in between him and the snow.

"Windclan! It's time for border patrols to go out!" he called, green eyes sweeping across his clanmates, many of which were still stiff and tired from the cold. "Coalfoot, you'll be leading a patrol to the Thunderclan border. Rune, take some cats out toward the border with Riverclan and lay down some fresh scent markers. Yewberry, i'll trust you with the Shadowclan border. Sootstar wants our alliance with them strong, so don't let anyone derail that."

It would be a good test for the three toms, and he looked forward to seeing how they handled themselves. "Everyone else can go where they think they'd be best suited. Just keep the patrols balanced and don't abuse my leniency." He was no Sootstar, but he his patience with clanmates trying to sabotage things was near non-existent at this point.

OOC- Hey guys! So partially to experiment with what works best and partly to keep things from getting stale, patrols are going to be done a little differently this time around. Instead of having you all sign up in discord and assigning you individually to patrols, this week Duskfire is only going to be picking patrol leaders. The patrol leaders are in charge of making their respective threads and giving me the link to post below. Everyone else may choose whose patrol they wish to join, just please do your best to keep them somewhat even (so if one thread has 4 cats and the other only have 2, consider dropping your cat in one of the smaller groups to help keep them balanced). Obligatory pings for @Yewberry @coalfoot and @Rune . You can make your threads in the clan boards you were assigned to, then just drop me the link in discord so I can post it here for others to join in :)

He had known Duskfire would call for patrols soon. He had been aware of the possibility of being put on a patrol. He was not, however, prepared for this. Coalfoot would have paled at that moment if he could, freezing when he heard his name called to lead a patrol. Surely it was the deputy's idea of a joke? Maybe he had heard wrong. (He definitely hadn't heard wrong). For a moment the tom's jaws parted, but he clamped down on a sputter of shock or protest before it could escape.

It wasn't that he was worried about leading a patrol, he was just worried about... leading a patrol. Coalfoot didn't trust himself, to put it plainly. With a shake of his head, he firmly told himself that it wouldn't stop him from trying, even in the face of the persistent drowsiness that followed him. Turning toward the gathered WindClanners, the warrior did his best to steel his expression. "Okay!" he called, but his voice immediately faltered. "Any... anyone that's willing to come can come. We're leaving now." How pathetic. Not quite according to plan. He paused a moment to let any candidates gather before turning away and leading the group out of camp.
