In what seems to be a reoccurring pattern, periwinklebreeze finds himself tucked beside a small figure - sharing warmth against the harsh leafbare chill. He's not sure what, exactly, kits find appealing about his battle scarred frame - maybe rattleheart was right, and it was the flowers in his tail fur - but he's certainly not going to complain. Instead, the boy speaks in quiet tones, listening to the request of the child beside him. " A st-story? Oh... well- " he certainly has plenty of those, but he's not sure they're the kind a kitten would want to hear.

But still... " Hm okay. B-b-back when I was st-still an apprentice, j-j-just periwinklepaw, n-not periwikleb-breeze, I had two friends. D-dazzlepaw, and azaleapaw. And th-there was this other apprentice we.... d-didn't really get along w-well with, you know? S-so azalea h-had the idea to put thorns in her nest - a p-prank, y'know? except that apprentice got their warrior n-name that day, so we accidentally p-pranked a warrior - we got scolded really g-g-good for that, had t-to clean nests and t-ticks for days, " the order of events are skewed - some names left behind, the aftermath going unmentioned. But still, looking upon it now, it's a little bit funny. Only a little though.

Sheepkit was tucked next to an adult, not his mama this time she's sleepin! Paws plants down on the ground beneath him. He looks up with wide blue eyes, at the darked face of one Periwinklebreeze. What a funny name! The black smoke leans in, listening to the story being told by his request. He had his mouth open in awe at the story being explained to him, he let out a squeaky mewl at the events of the story. His inky plumed tail wagging behind like a small puppy excited. "Mister Periiiii..winkle?" He begins, before pausing for a moment trying to figure out what words to say to the big but familiar looking adult. "That was a funny story!" A large black ear flicks to the side as he looks down distracted, twisting his body around slightly to bat at the other's tail. He thinks the other's tail looks very pretty! all those little flowers!

He perks his ears up, turning back to the older cat with a smile. "I liked it!" He squeaks out before leaning close to the other tucking his paws under him. "Can I have another story?" He tilts his head up at the adult, before settling back to wrap his long tail around his small form. He blinks slowly, head tipping forwards slightly feeling a little sleepy from all talking he did. He plops his head down on top of his own tail, a dark ear angling sideways to listen to Periwinklebreeze's next story. But for now, he needs a nap!

If Nightingalecry is in camp, she is with her kittens. She is curled tightly around them, fearful of letting them stretch their legs and stumble, eagerly waiting for their first words or when she can start weaning them. This should've been the job of two, of both her and Ebonylight - but he... he...

She swipes a tongue over Witherkit's head, distracting herself with ease. Her brother is only a few paces away, offering little Sheepkit a tale from their youth. Nightingalecry had been so... nose-to-the-grindstone then, fearful of being left behind, of being inadequate. She's much of the same still, however her fears of inadequacy surface in her new strides into motherhood.

"Perwinklebreeze is pretty good at that, huh? Telling stories," her thin tail flicks as it rests across Deathkit's back, "Maybe he has one or two from the journey that he can share." Nightingalecry suggests, ears craning towards her sibling once again.

The days of playing games with apprentices were long behind the Tunneler, and sitting with Periwinklebreeze to reminisce over the old days felt far beneath the long-furred tom. He settled at the edge of the conversation, feigning interest with an easy smile and eyes that seemed to track memories more than the creatures in front of him. "Firefang," he recalled, ears twitching. It usually had been Firefang at the forefront of ire, back then, she'd been more beast than cat, snarling at anything that dared disrupt WindClan's order, even turning on her own treacherous friend to keep WindClan safe. It made sense that Periwinkle would look upon the memory fondly, it was perhaps the only time he'd ever shown any agency over his actions until now. "I had heard about that, I was not aware it was you." Pride or surprise was absent from Sootspot, it felt awfully childish to say it had been a 'good prank', awfully vulnerable to say that he wished he had joined in once upon a time. Chartreuse eyes flicker to Sheepkit. "Perhaps a calmer story for our tired friend," he suggested, despite Nightinggale's suggestion for a tale of adventure.

Sunstride, too, remembers that day. It is...complicated, to hear it from the warrior's tongue. He looks back in time to who they had been, and misses the simplicity once more. Periwinklepaw had been a coward; Dazzlepaw presumptuous and unnecessarily difficult. He thinks of Snailpaw, Firepaw. Sootpaw. His eyes are upon the back of said warrior's head for a long moment before he slowly approaches. (It is stranger still now that he is more leader than warrior, that he does not quite fit as he once had. Too big, or too ragged; he cannot quite decide between the two.) "There must have been quieter moments upon your journey," he offers, tone questioning. Some nights here he regretted his choice not to follow. At the time, his assurance was that he was needed here. Even if it was not wrong...he might well have seen this ruin sooner, had he the distance to truly look.

Periwinklebreeze, like his mother, knew this rot many moons before. There is wisdom to the cat that he had not known in moons past. He is glad to listen to it now.

Though Rattleheart had been a warrior of Windclan alongside his sister when Periwinklebreeze was nothing more than an apprentice, his memories of that time were fuzzy, at best. He wasn't entirely sure why - perhaps he had intentionally blocked that period out, not wanting to remember the beginnings of the brutality that Sootstar had eventually brought to the forefront. Or perhaps he had been so preoccupied with blending into the background at the time that he hadn't even really focused on what was going on around him, save for the scraps of information that could potentially be useful later. Either way, the story that Periwinklebreeze felt just as new to him as it must have to Sheepkit, and he couldn't help the laughter-tinged purr that left him as he approached. "Still a pretty good prank, even if the timing wasn't exactly perfect. I'm sure Rabbitclaw would've done something similar to me when we were younger." He was, in fact, fairly certain that she had before, though his memories of a time before Windclan were even more obscured than the rest nowadays.

He settled not far from Sunstride's side, dipping his head at their to-be full leader before refocusing on Periwinklebreeze once more. From what scarce details about the journey he had managed to acquire from his sister, he knew that it hadn't exactly been the most relaxing ride through the mountains. There had been harrowing moments, plenty far too scary for a kit as young and impressionable as Sheepkit. Still, it was just as Sunstride had said - every moment couldn't have been non-stop stress, or Rattleheart was certain none of the group that had been sent would've come back alive. "What about a story about the sights? I'm sure you must've seen some pretty beautiful locales while you all were out there, even if that wasn't really the point of it." It wasn't the first time the tunneler found himself disappointed he hadn't been able to go along because of his sickness, though he didn't really mind missing the more intense parts.

" Another? " he asks softly - startled. He's never thought himself a good speaker - not when every word that falls from his lips is a struggle, when despite his hardest he cannot stop the stammering, the stuttering. But... kits are not ones to lie. They are strangely genuine, even in clan of snakes and liars. A warm glance is spared for nighty - his sister rarely strays from her kits these days, but really he cannot blame her. He's sure he'd be much the same, even without the worry of single parenthood should he ever have kits of his own. He'd always been Moonshadows well... shadow, after all.

" Th-the journey? " he echoes, startled from his musings. " Hm.... oh! " Sunstride and rattleheart are not exactly wrong in their assumptions, the journey had seemed to be one trail and tribulation after another, hardly crossing any distance before some obstacle or another had gotten in their way. But it hadn't all been bad things - he can still recall the beauty of the mountains, the freedom.

The way more than one of them had considered not returning at all.

" The mountains were d-definitely st-strange, " he starts, eyes unfocused for a moment as he recalls. " for one, th-the higher we w-went, the c-closer we were to st-starclan. S-some nights, I c-could almost swear y-you could reach out your p-paw and touch them, th-they were so close. Its was v-very pretty, v-very bright, " he'd spent many a night in those days looking up at silverpelt instead of sleeping, quiet conversations shared between all of them. They'd been like their own little clan.

" Th-there was also a lot of t-trees - one f-forest was s-so dense you c-couldn't even take two st-steps without leaving h-half your pelt behind, " he laughs quietly - it'd been frustrating at the time, but now it just seemed funny. " Th-those from thunderclan were th-the only ones able to move around or h-hunt - m-made me feel like a k-kit again, surrounded-by gorse walls, "

Clanmates flock around ol' Periwinklebreeze like buzzards to a carcass, all their ears bevelled in a thoughtful cant toward the moor runner's musings. Moorblossom was too tender in age to have proper remembrance of the story told, but even so, the stammered words do well to instill playful images in her thoughts. Threading thorns into another's nest, ha! She was inclined to think that tree sap would have afforded markedly better amusement in both craft and mischief. Regardless, she never knew Periwinklebreeze to be such a dastardly schemer. Ought to watch her back better around them henceforth.

Satisfied with passive observation, Moorblossom verges on the cusp of walking off when a second story is goaded by the audience. An encore! Moorblossom concedes to park herself upon the damp earth, focus rejuvenated, albeit teetered by the contrast in tone and subject.

Talk of the 'Lungwort Journey' mirrors an atrocious time in her personal history. Forbidden from participating in clan duties, quarantined to a cramped, subterranean den. Starvation waged on the sickness settled deep within her breathing tubes, wheezing so viscous it was akin to inhaling liquid. She'd spent days choking on her own fluids, all while the journeying party made merry in lands foreign and unfamiliar. She may as well have been in a different world compared to those cats.

Despite this, the imagined vistas that Periwinklebreeze conjures absolutely captivates her. "Woah, you touched StarClan!?" It's less a query and more of an incredulous breath. "That's so cool! Did they touch you back?"
