⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ hours after their birth, tiny scraps of fur dressed in her mate's stripes and her own colorless pelt nursed at her side. it was jarring to see then, nightbird still wasn't sure she had gotten over the feeling yet. a certain uncanniness, when she spotted a rich tabby pelt expecting to see chocolate eyes at the helm. yet, when tigerkit and bayingkit met her gaze, it was not raccoonstripe's eyes that she saw, rather their own. their differences in appearance were blatant, it only was exasperated by each opposing personality in her brood.
lightningkit, with her silver tinged pelt and her grandmother's forested gaze, tended to withdraw from the games her littermates played. it was conflicting to see a kitten so sociable in comparison to some of the others sit amongst the sidelines, lost amidst her own head. it would be wise of her to ward that behavior away, no mice were caught daydreaming. as a warrior, she would have no trouble doing so. but as a mother, her jaw remained shut.
she particularly struggled today, a rare moment when four of her kits were engrossed in some game she didn't fully understand the rules of. lightningkit had excluded herself, perched at her side. nightbird's jaw ticked with indecision, ears twitching with each conflicting thought. it was only when a plumed tail began to tap steadily over her paws did she catch a similar movement from her shadow.
the queen glanced down to look at her daughter. a banded tail tapped awkwardly, her brows knit in a way that contrasted the softness of a kitten-round face. it was an almost humorous sight. "you look very serious today." nightbird notes, unable to hide the amusement from her observation.
